2 Veterans Boulevard Public Meeting Report On the evening of February 24, 2010, a Project Scoping Meeting and Open House was held for the Veterans Boulevard/State Route 99 Interchange and Railroad Grade Separation Project. The Public Outreach details for this event are as follows: Mailing Database Post cards were designed and approved by the project team. The Public Information Officers at the City of Fresno and the Department of Transportation (Caltrans) were then sent the information for approval. The information was printed in English and Spanish. The final mailed version is attached as Attachment A. The mailing sample for residents was taken by first determining a geographical center for the project which was agreed upon by the project team to be Bullard and Golden State. A one mile radius of addresses was then pulled from the mailing address database using that center. 5,039 addresses were determined. The mailing to these address went out February 10, The list of address is held as an electronic spreadsheet file by the project team. Newspaper An ad was run in the Fresno Bee inviting the public to attend the Scoping Meeting. The artwork for the ad may be found as Attachment B to this document. This ad was run in the Saturday, February 6, 2010 issue of the paper. Also, the Fresno Bee was provided with text only copy to be run in available free sections of the paper between February 6 and February 24 as community interest and calendar items. This copy is also attached and is labeled Attachment C. Public Meeting The public meeting was held Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the River Bluff Elementary School, 6150 W Palo Alto Ave. Fresno, CA The Agenda is included in this report as Attachment D. There were 49 people representing the neighboring public in attendance. All attendees registered at the door. The sign-in sheets are attached to this report as Attachment E. Officials of the County and City of Fresno were also in attendance. Introductions were made by the City Engineer, Mr. Scott Mozier and a formal presentation was made by Robert Himes of Mark Thomas & Company. At the conclusion of the presentation, attendees were encouraged to examine the exhibits around the room, ask questions of staff, and complete a comment card. For ease of use, duplicate exhibits were displayed in the front and back of the meeting room. 13 members of the team from the Department of Transportation, the City of Fresno, and engineering consultants attended the meeting. Questions of the public were addressed by these staff members in informal settings at individual exhibits. Comment cards received at the end of the meeting totaled 11. In general, the comments received centered around two issues: road crossings for children walking to schools and support of alternative 4 Jug handles design. There were many positive comments on the meeting, written and verbal. Actual comment cards received have been scanned and are attached as Attachment F. Photos of the event are in Attachment G.
