2 Mensaje de la Dirección Regional / Mensagem da Direção Regional/ Message from the Regional Direction Estimados Colegas y Amigos de IEEE Latinoamérica y Caribe, Reciban una cordial bienvenida a la Reunión Regional Presencial de IEEE Latinoamérica y el Caribe correspondiente al año En los cuatro días que estaremos juntos tendremos la posibilidad de entrenarnos, interactuar, discutir ideas y construir acciones conjuntas. En las próximas páginas encontrarán el programa de actividades que el Comité Ejecutivo Regional ha preparado y que, esperamos, sea de vuestro agrado. En esta ocasión el lema de nuestra Reunión es Integrando nuestra Región a través de un mejor servicio. La cohesión regional y el servicio al miembro y a la comunidad son dos pilares motivacionales esenciales de nuestro rol como voluntarios. En este sentido, nuestra reunión presencial nos ofrece la posibilidad de conocer a nuestros colegas de otras secciones y otras regiones, y compartir con ellos visiones e iniciativas. En cierta medida, el propósito más noble que puede tener IEEE es el de ser un incubador de contribuyentes para beneficio de la humanidad, y nuestra región puede tener un rol destacado en este proceso. Los invito a reflexionar sobre esta visión. Esta reunión presencial fue precedida por la 6ta Reunión Regional Virtual en la que se presentaron y discutieron variados temas. Las reuniones virtuales que hemos venido desarrollando desde el 2010 han aumentado nuestra eficiencia al momento de generar iniciativas, y a la vez que contribuyeron a la cohesión regional. Este es un año especial, dado que viviremos el Congreso de Secciones 2014, evento en el que los presidentes de todas las secciones de IEEE se reúnen y aprueban recomendaciones con una visión global y de largo plazo. Nuestra Reunión Regional 2014 será, en ese sentido, un engranaje del proceso, dado que a través de una labor creativa en equipo generaremos recomendaciones para ser tratadas en dicho congreso. En paralelo con la Reunión Regional tradicional se realizará la Reunión Regional de Jóvenes Profesionales (Young Professionals - YP) y la Reunión Regional de Mujeres en Ingeniería (Women in Engineering WIE). Adicionalmente, los consejos regionales celebrarán sus reuniones, y nuestro recientemente creado Consejo Cono Sur tendrá su primer encuentro. Este crisol de actividades se verá enriquecido por la participación de distinguidos y experimentados invitados especiales. Es nuestro deseo que puedan aprovechar al máximo todas las actividades de esta reunión, incluyendo almuerzos y desayunos, lugares y momentos naturales de encuentro y construcción de lazos de amistad. 3 Caros Colegas e Amigos do IEEE da América Latina e Caribe, Receber vocês uma recepção calorosa para o encontro Regional cara-a-cara do IEEE América Latina e Caribe de Nos quatro dias que estaremos juntos, teremos a oportunidade de treinar, interagir, discutir ideias e desenvolver ações conjuntas. Nas próximas páginas, vocês encontraram o programa de atividades que o Comitê Executivo Regional tem preparado e que esperamos que seja do seu agrado. Nesta vez, o tema do nosso encontro é "Integrando nossa região através de um melhor serviço". A coesão regional e o serviço aos membros e a comunidade são dois papel motivacional chave como pilares de nossos voluntários. Neste sentido, o nosso encontro nos dá a oportunidade de conhecer colegas de outras regiões e de outras seções, e partilhar com eles as visões e iniciativas. Até certo ponto, o objetivo mais nobre que pode ter IEEE é ser uma "incubadora de contribuintes para o benefício da humanidade, e nossa região pode ter um papel importante neste processo. Convido a vocês a pensar sobre essa visão. Esta reunião foi precedida pela 6ta Reunião Regional Virtual em que foram apresentados e discutidos vários temas. As reuniões virtuais desenvolvidas desde 2010 aumentam nossa eficiência para gerar iniciativas e contribuem para a coesão regional. Este é um ano especial porque viveremos o Congresso das Seções 2014, evento em que os presidentes de todas as seções do IEEE fazem a aprovação de recomendações com uma visão abrangente e de longo prazo. Nosso Encontro Regional 2014 será, nesse sentido, uma engrenagem na maquinaria, gerando e fornecendo recomendações para discussão no congresso. A reunião regional será feita em paralelo com os Encontros Regionais de Mulheres na Engenharia (Women In Ingeneering - WIE) e Jovens Profissionais (Young Professionals - YP). Além disso, os conselhos regionais realizaram suas reuniões, e nosso recém-criado Conselho Cone Sul terá a sua primeira reunião. Este caldeirão de atividades será enriquecido com a participação de convidados especiais ilustres e experientes. É nosso desejo que pode tirar proveito de todas as atividades desta reunião, incluindo almoço, café da manha e atividades sociais, lugares e momentos naturais para fazer amizades. 4 Dear Colleagues and Friends of IEEE Latin-American and the Caribbean: Welcome to the Face-to-Face 2014 Regional Meeting of IEEE Latin America and the Caribbean. During four days we will have the opportunity to train, interact, discuss ideas and develop joint actions. In the next pages you will find the program of activities that the Regional Executive Committee has prepared, hoping that you will consider it attractive. This time the motto of our meeting is "Integrating our region through better servicing". Regional cohesion and service to members and community are two key motivational pillars associated to our role as volunteers. In this sense, our face-to-face meeting gives us the opportunity to meet colleagues from other regions and sections, and share with them visions and initiatives. To some extent, the noblest goal that IEEE can have is to incubate contributors for the benefit of humanity, and our region may play an important role in this process. I invite you to think on this vision. This face-to-face meeting was preceded by the 6th Virtual Regional Meeting in which various topics were presented and discussed. The Virtual meetings that have been carried out since 2010 have increased our efficiency when generating initiatives and contributed to regional integration. In this special year we will have the Sections Congress 2014, event in which the presidents of all sections of IEEE meet, create and approve recommendations based on a comprehensive and long-term vision. Our Regional Meeting 2014 will be, in that sense, a gear in the Sections Congress engine, as through creative teamwork we will generate recommendations to be discussed in the congress. Our Regional Meeting will be held in conjunction with the Region-9 Women in Engineering (WIE) and Young Professionals (YP, formerly GOLD) Meetings. Additionally, the regional councils, including the newcomer Cono Sur Council, will also hold their meetings. these meetings will be enriched by the participation of distinguished and experienced guests. It is our desire that you can take advantage of all the planned activities, including lunch, breakfast and social events, natural places and moments to build friendship. Deseamos expresarle nuestro compromiso para que su estadía en nuestro país sea placentera, fructífera y segura. Aprovechamos para agradecer a nuestro distinguido Director Regional, el Dr. Norberto Lerendegui, y al Comité Ejecutivo que preside, el habernos concedido el honor de ser los anfitriones de la Reunión Regional Latinoamericana 2014 de IEEE, RR2014. Para este importante evento el Comité Organizador de la Sección Colombia, manteniendo la tradición de IEEE R9 que desde hace muchos años ha llevado a cabo excelentes Reuniones Regionales, está haciendo sus mejores esfuerzos para que los miembros del Comité Ejecutivo, el Comité Ampliado y nuestros ilustres invitados puedan realizar sus trabajos en un ambiente de comodidad y seguridad. Asimismo, como complemento a las importantes sesiones de trabajo, el Comité ha preparado un Programa Social, el cual tiene como objetivo mostrar algunos sitios de interés turístico, los cuales deseamos sean del agrado de todos ustedes. We wish to express our commitment to make your stay in our country pleasant, fruitful and safety. We want to take this opportunity to thank our distinguished, Dr. and the Executive Committee that he presides, for having granted us the honor of hosting the 2014 IEEE Region 9 Meeting.
