2 ID del estudio Creemos que es importante conocer la opinión de los pacientes y de sus familiares sobre los estudios de investigación. Esto es especialmente importante en el estudio ESETT (Ensayo del tratamiento del estado epiléptico establecido) en el su familiar participó. En el momento en el que su familiar fue incluido en este estudio, él/ella estaba con convulsiones así que no pudimos comentarle ni a él/ella ni a usted acerca sobre el estudio antes de incluirlo/a. Ahora, estamos pidiendo a todas las personas incluidas en el estudio ESETT (o a quienes tomaron la decisión de incluir a un miembro de su familia en el estudio) que respondan unas preguntas sobre el estudio. Usted no está obligado a responder a estas preguntas, pero valoramos su opinión acerca del estudio.. En una escala de a, en la que significa totalmente de y totalmente en, qué valoración le da a las siguientes afirmaciones en su caso? a. Me alegro de que mi familiar haya participado en el estudio de investigación ESETT. Cuál es la razón principal por la que escogió esta respuesta? b. Creo que era lo correcto que los investigadores incluyeran a mi familiar en el estudio de investigación ESETT cuando él/ella estaba teniendo convulsiones. c. Creo que estuvo bien incluir a mi familiar en el estudio sin antes pedirme autorización. 2. Debido a que no se le pudo preguntar ni a su familiar ni a usted acerca de si quería ser incluido/a en el estudio ESETT en el momento en el que su familiar tenía convulsiones, se le informó más tarde y se le pidió permiso para que su familiar continuara formando parte del estudio. Con respecto a cuándo le informaron sobre el estudio y le preguntaron si quería que su familiar continúe participando en el mismo: puede decirme, en una escala de a, en qué medida está de con las siguientes afirmaciones? a. 4 Study ID We think that it is important to understand patients and their family members thoughts about research studies. This is especially important in the ESETT study that your family member was a part of. At the time your family member was included in this study, s/he was having a seizure so we were not able to talk to your family member or to you about the study before including him/her. Now, we are asking everyone who was included in the ESETT study (or who made a decision about whether to keep a family member in the study) to answer a few questions about the study. You do not have to answer these questions, but we value any thoughts that you have about this study.. On a scale of to with being strongly agree and being strongly disagree, how do the following statements apply to you? a. I am glad that my family member was included in the ESETT research study. b. What is the major reason you chose this answer? c. I think that it was ok for researchers to include my family member in the ESETT research study when s/he was having the seizure. d. I think that it was ok to include my family member without asking for permission first. 2. Since neither your family member nor you could be asked about whether s/he wanted to be included in the ESETT study at the time your family member was having a seizure, you were told about it later and asked for permission to keep your family member in the study. Thinking about when you were told about the study and asked whether to keep your family member in it, can you tell me, on a scale of to, how much you agree with the following statements? a. When researchers do a study where people have to be included before being asked for permission, researchers have to talk to community members to get their thoughts and opinions about the study before it can be approved and started. This is in addition to having the study reviewed by the medical research review board that reviews all research studies. a.
