2 PASTOR S PERSPECTIVE Dear Parishioners: Henry Drummond was a well-known 19th-century Sco sh evangelist and professor. When he was about ten years old, his home village was preparing paper streamers to honor the arrival of the queen. As the paper supply ran short, someone asked Henry to go get some more. At first, he refused. But when reminded that this seemingly menial task was On Her Majesty s Service, the young boy ran at top speed to get the requested supply. It s all about perspec ve! How much happier we would be if whatever we do, we do for God On His Majesty s Service. Unfortunately, many people are s ll working with the wrong a tude. They do their job begrudgingly. And they believe that labor is a punishment from God. From the beginning, however, God took the man and se led him in the garden of Eden, to cul vate and care for it (Genesis 2:15). Work is man s first voca on. Made in God s image and likeness, we are called to be His co-workers in the garden of the world (Genesis 1:26-28). It is true that a er the fall of Adam, work has become burdensome. Cursed is the ground because of you! In toil you shall eat its yield By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread (Genesis 3:17-19). But through the Carpenter s Son, work becomes redemp ve. Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, said Jesus, and I will give you rest (Ma hew11:28). As we celebrate Labor Day this weekend, let us remind ourselves of our voca on, our dignity and our responsibility as God s co-workers. Instead of standing here idle all day (Ma hew 20:6), let us be hard at work, just as the Father is at work un l now (John 5:17), so that, together with the Holy Spirit, we will renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104:30). WALK OF REMEMBRANCE All are invited to a end the Fr. Mychal Judge 911 Walk of Remembrance in NYC. Held each year on the Sunday before 9/11, the walk commemorates the life of Fr. Mychal Francis Church. Judge and all those lost on that devasta ng day. Following in his footsteps as Fire Department Chaplain, the walk traces the route Fr. Mychal took on his way to minister to others in the towers before they fell. Fr. Mychal shared a close friendship with Detec ve Steven McDonald who founded this walk in Steven passed away earlier this year. His wife, Pa Ann McDonald, will lead the Rosary at 9:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church (located at 135 W. 31 Street, NYC) followed by Mass at 9:30 AM. 3 PERSPECTIVA DEL PÁRROCO Estimados feligreses: Henry Drummond era un conocido evangelista y profesor escoce s del siglo 19. Cuando tenı a unos diez an os, su pueblo natal estaba armado con serpentinas de papel para honrar la llegada de la reina. A medida que el surtido de papel se acababa, alguien le pregunto a Henry que fuera a traer mas. Al principio, el se nego. Ser sus colaboradores en el jardıń del mundo (Ge nesis 1: 26-28). Es verdad que despue s de la caı da de Ada n, la obra se ha vuelto pesada: "Maldito sea el suelo por causa de ti, en el trabajo comerás su fruto... Con el sudor de tu frente comerás pan" (Ge nesis 3:17). Pero en el Hijo del Carpintero, el trabajo se vuelve redentor. "Venid a mí, todos los que trabajáis y sobre cargáis", dijo Jesu s, "y yo os daré reposo" (Mateo 11: 28). Al celebrar el Día del Trabajo este in de semana, recordemos nuestra vocacio n, nuestra dignidad y nuestra responsabilidad como compan eros de trabajo de Dios. En vez de "permanecer aquí ociosos todo el día" (Mateo 20: 6), haga monos arduos en el trabajo, ası como el "Padre está en el trabajo hasta ahora" (Juan 5:17), para que, junto con el Espıŕitu Santo, "renovemos la faz de la tierra" (Salmo 104: 30).
