As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10 SIDE BY SIDE Come to me, all you who labor (Matthew 11:28). When we are overburdened, weary, confused, or sick Jesus invitation is music to our ears, except for a small hitch. Jesus says, Take my yoke upon you (Matthew 11:29). How does this give rest to our souls? For generations, farmers have yoked young plough animals alongside experienced ones. The experienced animal trains the other by example. An older and weaker animal may likewise be yoked to one in its prime, so the stronger partner takes on the strain. Jesus invites us to take on his yoke so he can walk with us, helping us to do things his way. He promised never to leave us to pull alone. When it all gets too much or we lose our way, he will be there beside us gentle, humble, but infinitely powerful and wise. At times when we are strong, we in turn can yoke ourselves to someone who needs that extra pull to get to firmer ground. Copyright 2010, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. THE RIGHT DIRECTION If we walk one step toward God, God will run ten steps toward. ND This weekend is our second collection after Holy Communion to benefit the Parish Improvement Fund. Thank you for your support and prayers for our parish community! Ordinary Time: A Sense of the Season What do the words Ordinary Time mean? Dorothy Day said, The words Ordinary Time in our prayer books put me in a state of confusion and irritation. To me, no time is ordinary. She was right. The Ordinary in Ordinary Time refers to ordinal counted time, not to a lack of something to celebrate. The Roman document, General Norms for the Liturgical Year and Calendar, says: Apart from those seasons having their own distinctive character [Advent, Christmas time, Lent, Triduum and Easter time], 33 or 34 weeks remain in the yearly cycle that do not celebrate a specific aspect of the mystery of Christ. Rather, especially on the Sundays, they are devoted to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects. How do we celebrate the mystery of Christ in all its aspects? We gather every Sunday. Sunday is our original feast day. Christians have gathered every Sunday the day of Christ s resurrection, the first day of the week ever since there were Christians. When we gather on Sundays in Ordinary Time, as always, we hear the scriptures proclaimed. We do our Eucharist; that is, we do our thanksgiving. We praise and thank God for all creation; we pray for the whole world, as we remember Christ s life, death and resurrection. We share the bread and wine, the body and blood. We are sent forth to be the body and blood of Christ in our homes, our workplaces, our neighborhoods, our towns, our cities, our country, our world. What happens in our churches every Sunday is the fruit of our week. What happens as the fruit of the week past is the beginning of the week to come. Sunday is simultaneously a point of arrival and departure for Christians on their way to the fullness of the kingdom. This is not ordinary at all. This is the fabric of Christian living. She urged them to pray the Rosary in sorrow for sin, and for the conversion of sinners to a better way of life. In the reign of Pope Pius XII, the custom developed of having a statue of Our Lady of Fatima carried from place to place to encourage people to respond to Mary s request by praying the Rosary, as we have such a statue. If you d like to have her in your home for a week, please contact the Office of Ministries at: ext.105 or 112. The Latin Mass community is looking for men who would like to learn Gregorian Chant and join our men's schola. The schola assists the priest during high Masses by chanting parts of the mass using the beautiful ancient melodies of the Church. The gentlemen rehearse on Thursdaynights for about two hours and independently during the week. Previous experience with Gregorian Chant is not necessary, but some previous musical experience is helpful. For more information Mr. Royce Nickel at Job Opportunity See pg. 10 for more info. 8 PAGINA 8 ATENCIÓN JÓVENES!! GRUPO DE JÓVENES DE HIGH SCHOOL y GRADOS DEL 7 & 8 VIERNES 7:00 PM SOCIAL HALL TE ESPERAMOS! BRING A FRIEND! Copyright 2010, World Library Publications. Copyright 2010, World Library Publications. Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
