1 Notification of English as a Second Language Program Placement Initial Placement Continued Placement Student: Date: District: Freehold Regional High School District School: Dear Parent(s) or Guardian: Based on your child s English proficiency test scores, level of academic achievement, and teacher recommendations, we are pleased to inform you that your child will receive instruction in our district s High-Intensity English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The goal of the district s ESL program is to help your child learn English and meet age-appropriate academic standards. You may request to have your child removed from the ESL program. Determination regarding when a student no longer needs program services is based on student performance on the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Exam and other performance indicators. The method of instruction used in your child s language assistance program is High-Intensity English as Second Language (ESL). In this type of program, students receive two periods of ESL a day. Your child s level of English proficiency was measured using the WIDA Screener English Language Proficiency Assessment for initial placement or the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 for continued placement. However, your child has been accepted into the Transitional English Program at. The District s goal is to prepare students for the literacy demands of the world at large. In order to prepare students more effectively to pursue life goals, the Transitional English Program s learning objectives are based upon the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Language Arts Literacy. The ultimate purpose is to make students literate readers, writers, and speakers in Standard American English as well as astute listeners and viewers.
