2 From the Pastor s Desk Summer Spirituality! First Communions are done. Confirmations too. The school year is ended. For those of you who have never been pastors you may not know the sigh of relief and release that happens at this time of year for us. In effect, the busy year is over, to begin again in mid-august with planning for the Fall. It is a beautiful time, not leisurely but with fewer deadlines and must-do's. Personally, I find it to be a wonderful time to pray a bit more. We Capuchins were founded as a reform of the Franciscan Order in the early 16th century to live more austere, contemplative lives. Contemplative means just that; to contemplate God in silent reflection. It is a large part of what originally drew me to the Capuchin Franciscan life more than 40 years ago. Originally, we Capuchins did not staff parishes for just that reason; the demands of parish ministry make the cloistered contemplative life impossible. The Church asked us to take parishes, especially when we went to missionary countries in the world. Now, we are very active in parish ministry. I am very happy about that change because I find serving God's people as a pastor to be the most joyful vocation I could imagine. At the same time, it will be nice to take some time each day just to sit quietly in the presence of God, to open my heart to God's goodness and to the ongoing call to conversion. I heartily recommend it to everyone who has the opportunity. To be touched in the depths of our being by our Lord is a tremendous gift that we should never pass up. DAILY READINGS Sunday: Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday Next Sunday: If you are interested in having you child (ages 6-16) complete any or all of the following sacraments: Baptism Communion Confirmation Please register them in our Religious Education Program which begins in September in English or Spanish and takes place in Good Shepherd School. Registration Forms are available in the Parish Office and Early Registration runs until June 30 th to get a special discount. Note: If your child needs to complete another year of the classes you will need to re-register them for the new program year.

5 Del Escritorio Del Párroco Espiritualidad de Verano! Ya terminaron las Primeras Comuniones y las Confirmaciones también. El año escolar llego a su fin. Para aquellos de ustedes que nunca han sido párrocos puede que no conozcan el suspiro de alivio y liberación que tenemos durante este momento. De hecho, el año atareado ha terminado, para comenzar de nuevo a mediados de agosto con la planificación del otoño. Es un tiempo hermoso, sin tanta prisa, pero con menos plazos y cosas que hacer. Personalmente, considero que es un momento maravilloso para rezar un poco más. Nosotros los capuchinos fuimos fundados como una reforma de la Orden Franciscana a principios del siglo XVI para vivir vidas más serias y contemplativas. Contemplativo significa exactamente eso; para contemplar a Dios en una reflexión silenciosa. Es una gran parte de lo que originalmente me atrajo a la vida franciscana capuchina hace más de 40 años. Debido a las demandas del ministerio parroquial, estas hacen que la vida contemplativa clausurada sea imposible. Por esa razón originalmente, nosotros los capuchinos no equipábamos las parroquias con personal de oficina. La Iglesia nos pidió que tomáramos parroquias, especialmente cuando íbamos a países misioneros en el mundo. Ahora, somos muy activos en el ministerio parroquial. Estoy muy feliz por ese cambio porque el servir al pueblo de Dios como pastor es la vocación más alegre que pueda imaginar. Al mismo tiempo, será agradable tomarse un tiempo cada día solo para sentarme en silencio en la presencia de Dios, abrir mi corazón a la bondad de Dios y al llamado continuo a la conversión. Le recomiendo de corazón a todos los que tengan la oportunidad. Ser tocado en las profundidades de nuestro ser por nuestro Señor es un gran regalo que nunca debemos dejar pasar. Formularios de Inscripción están disponibles en la Oficina de la Parroquia y la Inscripción Temprana termina el 30 de Junio para obtener un descuento.
