Currently, 124 parishioners of St. Agnes have made their pledges. It will be ideal if each family contributes in a generous way to the Archbishop s Charities Drive. If you have not yet made your pledge, please try to make it this week. There are special ABCD envelopes at the entrance of the church. The Drive will be finished by February 22 nd. BAKE SALE CATECHISM OFFICE This Sunday, February 15 th the Catechism Office will be having a bake sale to benefit the Amor en Acción Ministry from the Archdiocese of Miami. This organization supports needy children in Haiti. Please support this ministry. ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18 th, 2015 Lent begins on February 18 th, Ash Wednesday. It is a day of fasting and abstinence from meat. Above all, it is a day of prayer. At the end of each Mass, ashes will be imposed. The schedule is as follows: 8:00 AM; 9:00 AM-Academy; 12:00 Noon; 5:00 PM-Catechism parents are welcome; 8:00 PM (Spanish). The collection of this day is for the Buen Pastor Ministry of our Parish. 4 Page Four Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 15, 2015 Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 Gospel reading ( Mark 1: 40 45) A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, If you wish, you can make me clean. Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, I do will it. Be made clean. The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. He said to him, See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them. The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere. Brief commentary In Jesus time lepers where denied any contact with healthy people. Since germs were unknown, diseases like leprosy were considered to be a result from sin or the work of the devil. Consequently, people avoided those who were infected lest they be contaminated both physically and spiritually. Today s Gospel relates to the first reading from Leviticus 13 about ritual impurities. Jesus healing touch replaces the rejection faced by the unclean lepers. This outcast living outside of town not only approached Jesus but was touched by him. According to Jewish law anyone who was touched by a leper would become himself impure, thus, Jesus compassion is shown by openly touching the man. This is a perfect conclusion to Mark s first chapter where, hurriedly, many were healed by touch and word. Today s reading offers three significant messages: Jesus healed both the leper and his relationship with society. It was important for the leper to be touched; something that had been denied to him because of his illness. The secrecy is present again with the command to the leper, tell no one anything. Jesus sent him to the priest because the priest was the legal authority that could grant him a re-entry into society. For our shared or personal reflection: After a brief pause for silent reflection share your answers, ideas or feelings. 1. What leper have I touched lately? Maybe someone who feels forgotten by society or the Church? 2. Do I confidently come to Jesus when I need to be touched and healed? Do I let others touch the real me? 5 Page Five Sexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 15 de febrero de 2015 Todo lo que hagan ustedes, sea comer, o beber, o cualquier otra cosa, háganlo todo para gloria de Dios. 1 Corin os 10:31 Evangelio ( Marcos 1, 40 45) En aquel tiempo se acercó a Jesús un leproso que se arrodilló y le suplicó: Si quieres puedes limpiarme. Jesús tuvo compasión, extendió la mano, lo tocó y le dijo: Yo quiero; queda limpio. Al instante se le quitó la lepra y quedó sano. Entonces Jesús le despidió, pero le mandó enérgicamente: No se lo digas a nadie; preséntate al sacerdote y le darás por tu purificación lo que ordena la Ley de Moisés. Con esto serán ellos testigos. Pero el hombre, en cuanto salió, empezó a hablar y a contar detalladamente todo el asunto. Resultó que Jesús ya no podía entrar públicamente en el pueblo; tenía que andar por las afueras, en lugares apartados. Pero de todas partes llegaban a donde él estaba. Comentario breve En el siglo I, las gentes vivían con el temor a los demonios o a los espíritus impuros, a los que se atribuían la mayoría de las enfermedades. En el relato de hoy, como en el del domingo pasado, Jesús demuestra su poder sobre el mal al curar a un leproso. Para los judíos, un leproso era un pecador público y cualquiera que lo tocase se volvía impuro. Ignorando estas creencias, Jesús toca al enfermo y lo cura. Este gesto demuestra no sólo su poder sanador, sino su compasión y solidaridad con los que sufren. Esta escena relata la última de las obras maravillosas que Jesús llevó a cabo en el primer capítulo del Evangelio según San Marcos, donde, con mucha prisa, muchos fueron sanados por las palabras o el toque del Señor. Una vez más encontramos la característica en este Evangelio de no divulgar la identidad de Jesús. La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas importantes: Jesús sanó la lepra y también la relación del leproso con la sociedad. Era importante que el leproso fuera tocado, algo que le había sido negado por razón de su enfermedad. El secreto Mesiánico aparece de nuevo cuando Jesús le pide al leproso que no se lo cuente a nadie. Lo envía a los sacerdotes porque eran ellos los que tenían que dar la comprobación necesaria para que el enfermo pudiera volver a la vida social. Para la reflexión comunitaria: Después de una pausa breve para reflexionar en silencio, comparta con otros sus ideas o sentimientos: 1. He tocado a algún leproso últimamente? Alguien que se siente fuera de la sociedad o de la Iglesia? 2. Me acerco al Señor con confianza cuando necesito su toque y su sanación? Permito que otros me toquen con su ayuda y apoyo cuando los necesito? Lecturas recomendadas: Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, párrafos ;2616.

Esta organización tiene como objetivo ayudar a los niños de pocos recursos en Haiti. Les agradecemos su colaboración. DONACIONES DE ROPA MIERCOLES DE CENIZA 18 DE FEBRERO DE 2015 La Cuaresma comienza el día 18 de febrero, que es Miércoles de Ceniza. Es día de ayuno y de abstinencia de carne. Sobre todo es un día de oración. Al final de las misas se impondrá la ceniza. El horario es este: 8:00 AM; 9:00 AM Colegio; 12:00 del mediodía; 5:00 PM-Programa de Catecismo-y las 8:00 PM en español. La colecta de este día se destina al Ministerio del Buen Pastor de nuestra Parroquia. CENACULO EUCARISTICO Viernes, 20 de febrero de 2015 a las 7:30 PM Las Siervas de los Corazones Traspasados de Jesús y María les invita el tercer viernes de cada mes, a nuestro Cenáculo Eucarístico en la iglesia de St. Agnes, a las 7:30 PM.
