3 The verb TENER & Adjectives The verb tener means to have. It is a stem-changing verb e (ie) and is conjugated as follows: Yo tengo I have Nosotros tenemos we have Tú tienes you (familiar) have Vosotros teneís you (plural-informal) have Él/Ella/ he/she has Ellos tienen they have Usted tiene you (formal) have Ustedes tienen you have (plural-formal) Tener can be used with descriptive adjectives to say what kind of hair and eyes a person has. In Spanish we place the adjective after the noun. For example, if someone has blond hair you will say: Tiene el pelo rubio; the word blond=rubio comes after the word hair=pelo. In Spanish you match gender and number. Therefore, your adjective has to be plural as well. Modelo: I have green eyes. You have curly blonde hair.
