5 INTRODUCTION Objective This User Manual describes the main capabilities of the Smart Box 8000 and provides general information and installation instructions. For specific information and questions not covered in this manual, you may contact as at: Note Bematech makes reserve of the right to introduce improvements to the products described in this manual at any time without prior notice. 6 List of parts The accessories and parts sent with the Smart Box 8000 are specified in the label of the packing include in the box. Prior to installing the product, please make sure the materials sent with the unit agree with those specified in the box. If any part were missing or damaged, you should contact your supplier or sales representative immediately. 7 Installation Removing the packaging When opening the original packaging, you will find, besides the Smart Box equipment, a box containing all the accessories necessary for its installation. Go over the check list enclosed with the product to see if all the items have been delivered. Place of installation The place of installation should meet the following conditions: - Have an electrical network with a ground connection, with a three pin plug (2 poles and the ground) in order to be compatible with the cable of the equipment. - Have enough space for its operation and preventive and corrective maintenance; - The feeding line should be exclusive for the equipment, unless it is used for other compatible equipment and it should not overpass the maximum consumption of the line. Photocopy machines, electrical motors and any other high consumption equipment should be installed isolated from this equipment; - Advisably, the floor should not be wooden, in order to avoid electrostatic shocks on the equipment; - Install the equipment in a stable place, with no vibrations, since some of its components are movement sensitive; - It is not advisable to install the equipment on a mobile table (with wheels) and/or that the operator has chair with wheels, since this may cause electrostatic shocks on the equipment; - The rear part of the equipment should always be unobstructed in order not to disturb the air circulation for its ventilation; - The video monitor should be place strategically so that the lights of the room do not reflect the operator, disturbing the correct visibility of the screen; - As a safety measure, it is advised the use of a voltage stabilizer or UPS between the equipment and the line socket; - Install the equipment away from sun rays, vapor, gases, smoke, humidity and suspended particles; - Read the limitations of the warranty manual before installing the equipment. 7

8 Connecting to the electrical network Check that the smart box is unplugged, if it is, connect it to the line power. Watch that the socket should have three holes for its correct ground connection. It is important to check that the voltage selector is in the position corresponding to the electrical provision. Special care Check carefully the electrical tension before connecting the Smart Box equipment. You should take special care with the tension and the maximum voltage the equipment supports. In case of doubt and/or adjustment of the socket, ask a professional. You should take the same care if you have to install an extension wire, a voltage stabilizer or UPS. The user is exclusively responsible for taking these precaution measures, being them essential for the effect of the warranty coverage. The Smart Box purchased has been manufactured under international safety standards that protect the user against electrical shocks in case electrical network failure or accident. For this protection to work properly, it is essential that equipment be connected to a three-hole socket connected to the ground. Only connect a peripherical or accessory to your system when it is disconnected. Store all the material used in the Smart Box equipment package; these are the most appropriate to transport the equipment in case of moving its location. Never obstruct the ventilation inlets of the Smart Box equipment, since they have been technically designed to ventilate the equipment and make it work properly. Before cleaning the equipment, make sure it is disconnected from the electrical network. Use just a wet cloth to clean it. Do not use detergents, abrasive or solvent products. Do not try to repair the equipment by yourself, Nor allow any unauthorized person to do it. There is risk of electrical shock, even with the wire disconnected from the electrical network. Contact the Bematech Service centers whenever necessary. Special configurations: If the Smart Box equipment was ordered with the Microsoft operative system, it is already pre-installed. Check that the Microsoft product Certification label is stuck to the equipment CPU. For other operative and/or commercial systems installed or getting installed in your equipment, request an authenticity certificate. Remember that the use of a computer program lacking the corresponding license is a copyright crime and its punishment is foreseen in the penal statute. 8

9 Connecting peripheral devices to Smart Box 8000 Smart Box 8000 is equipped with a touch-screen which, under regular use, eliminates the need for external keyboard, mouse and monitor. You may however need an external device in case the Smart Box 8000 needs servicing. Please refer to the information below for connection instructions: Note: Observe that the connectors are identical for each one but in its color, watch the equipment indicator in order not to get confused. (Green = Mouse / Purple = Keyboard) Connect the PS2 mouse connector (green), according to the following scheme: Connect the PS2 keyboard connector (Purple), according to the following scheme: Connect the monitor VGA connector (blue), according to the following scheme: 9

10 OPERATIVE SYSTEM For the best performance of the Smart Box 8000, BEMATECH recommends the Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPoS) operative system, available as optional for this equipment. Operative systems The Smart Box 8000 is compatible with the following operative systems: Windows XP, 2000, WEPoS, Linux, QNX. Software installation from external devices The Smart Box 8000 does not have a CD-ROM or a disk drive in the unit. According to Windows procedures, the software may be installed or loaded in the HDD of the Smart Box 8000 by the following methods: Connecting an external USB CD-ROM Drive. Connecting an external disk drive. Introducing a USB memory key. Configuring Windows for a network or Internet connection. Note: the first 3 options may require the installation of a driver device. These options may be available for other operative systems. If for any reason it is essential to install the software of an internal IDE port, such as a CD-ROM IDE Drive, this requires the use of an IDE adapter cable of 44 pin to 40 pin. This cable may be ordered separately to Bematech. When your order it, you will receive additional information in order to carry out the connection. This type of connection requires opening the unit housing in order to reach the internal cables. CONFIGURATION AND CALIBRATION OF THE TOUCH SCREEN The touch screen of the Smart Box 8000 has several configurations that may be adjusted to personalize the way the panel responds when the screen is touched. These commands are located in the TouchKit" applications in the Drivers CD. 10

11 The "TouchKit" will open automatically in the language and calibrations screen. Click the "Calib 4 pts" button below and follow the instructions in the screen. For the gauging, we recommend that a plastic pointer be used, such as the end of a pen or pencil. Make sure you do not touch accurately the touch panel and the center of the blanks. This will assure a perfect gauging. Every calibration below 10 pixels of error has enough accuracy and shall be accepted. Above that value, you should recalibrate the touch panel. Change of button The Button swapping section of this dialog box allows the configuration of a very useful function of the right button. If the enabling icon option is checked, then a small Mouse icon will appear in the Windows toolbar. Each time you press this icon, the click function of the Mouse in the panel Hill change from the left (usual) to the right. When you touch the screen alter this action, the right click function Hill be enabled. If the auto return option to the left button is checked, each time the right click option of the touch panel is used, the left click is automatically replaced. Note: the Smart Box 8000 is sent with both icons enabled and the left click auto return enabled by default. 11

12 Double click area The Configuration button shows some additional options that may be used to prepare the performance of the touch panel. Once the calibration is complete, you may use your finger to operate the touch panel. The double click are should be adjusted according to the user s finger size. If the contact surface with the touch screen is relatively large, then the touch panel should respond better when the double click area configuration is increased. After these changes, it is advisable to test the panel s performance repeatedly in order to determine which applications suit your requirements better. Touch beep This function is available and the unit will beep every time the touch screen is touched. Releasing the click On When this function is enabled, it modifies the moment when the touch screen sends the click information to the PC. Instead of activating the click in touch with the touch screen, the activation is triggered when the pointer or finger is removed from the touch panel surface. 12

13 BIOS CONFIGURATION As the Smart Box 8000 BIOS is configured by default for an optimal performance, no changes are necessary for its configuration. However, if any changes should be made, please follow the instructions below. To access the BIOS configuration screen, you should press Del from an external keyboard while carrying out the "Power On Self Test". The main configuration of the BIOS which affects the functionality of the Smart Box 8000 is located in the Standard CMOS Features menu. To enter this menu, press Enter. The "Standard CMOS Features" menu is the following: The manufacturing configurations in the Standard CMOS Features menu are the following: IDE Primary Master [Auto]¹ IDE Primary Slave [None] IDE Secondary Master [None] IDE Secondary Slave [None] Drive A [None] Drive B [None] Halt On [All, But Keyboard] Select Display Device [CRT+LCD] Panel Type [800 x 600, 1ch LVDS]² ¹ When the BIOS detects a hard disk connected to the unit automatically, the hard disk model will appear in this field replacing the word [Auto]. ² The introduction of incorrect changes in this field may cause the Smart Box 8000 not to show any image in the LCD screen. In this case, an external monitor will be required to access the BIOS program and restore the correct values. 13

14 PROBLEMS Symptom Possible causes Solution No answer when the equipment is connected. The equipment is connected but no video image appears. The keyboard does not respond to the commands ordered. The keyboard cable is not connected. The Mouse is not connected. Inappropriate installation conditions. Disconnect the equipment and connect the feeding cable again. Connect the feeding cable to another socket. Move the 110/220v power switch to its correct position. Move the Mouse to return to the Normal mode. Contact an Authorized Bematech Technical Service Center. Adjust the brightness and/or Contrast of the monitor s image. Connect the monitor. Disconnect the equipments and check the correct connection of the video monitor cable. Move the 110/220v power switch to its correct position. Disconnect the equipment and connect the keyboard cable. Disconnect the equipment and connect the mouse cable. Check that the equipment is in an appropriate place and that its ventilation outlets are not covered. 14

23 Listado de Partes Los accesorios y las partes enviadas con el Smart Box 8000 están especificados en la etiqueta del embalaje que se encuentra en la caja. Antes de instalar el Smart Box 8000, por favor asegúrese de que los materiales enviados con la unidad concuerden con los especificados en la caja. Si faltara o se hallara dañada alguna de las partes, por favor contacte a su distribuidor o representante de ventas de inmediato. 24 Instalación Retirando embalaje Al abrir el embalaje original Ud. encontrará, además del equipo Smart Box, una caja conteniendo todos los accesorios necesarios para su instalación. Verifique el check list que acompaña al producto si todos los ítems están presentes (el mismo se encuentra contenido en el manual del usuario). Lugar de Instalación El lugar de instalación debe cumplir las siguientes condiciones: - Poseer una red eléctrica con conexión a tierra, con toma de tres puntos (2 polos y la tierra), para ser compatible con el cable que posee el equipo; - Poseer espacio suficiente de operación, mantenimiento preventivo o correctivo; - La línea de alimentación debe ser exclusiva para el equipo, salvo otros equipos compatibles con este y sin sobrepasar el consumo máximo de la línea. Máquinas fotocopiadoras, motores eléctricos o cualquier otro equipo de alto consumo debe ser instalado de manera aislada a este equipo; - No se aconseja que el piso sea de madera, evitando así descargas de electroestática sobre el equipo; - Instale el equipo en un lugar fijo y sin vibraciones ya que algunos componentes del mismo son sensibles a estos movimientos; - No se aconseja instalar el equipo sobre una mesa móvil (con ruedas) y/o que el operador posea una silla con ruedas ya que esto puede provocar descargas electroestáticas en el equipo; - La parte trasera del equipo debe estar siempre libre para no interrumpir el flujo de aire para su ventilación; - El monitor de video debe estar colocado estratégicamente de manera que las luces del ambiente no reflejen hacia el operador e impidan su correcta visualización de la pantalla; - Como medida de seguridad, se recomienda el uso de un estabilizador de tensión o UPS entre el equipo y toma de línea; - Instale el equipo lejos de los rayos solares, vapores, gases, humos, humedad y partículas en suspensión; - Observe las restricciones del manual de garantía antes de instalar el equipo. 7

25 Conectando a la red eléctrica Verifique que el smart box esté desenchufado, en caso afirmativo, conéctelo a la tensión de línea. Observe que el toma debe poseer tres puntos para su correcta conexión a la tierra. Importante, revisar el selector de voltaje que se encuentre en la posición correspondiente al del suministro eléctrico. Cuidados especiales Verifique cuidadosamente la tensión eléctrica antes de conectar el equipo Smart Box. Una precaución especial se deberá tomar con la tensión y la corriente máxima soportada por el equipo. En el caso de duda y/o adecuación del toma corriente, consulte con un profesional. Se debe tomar el mismo cuidado en el caso de tener que colocar un prolongador eléctrico, estabilizador de tensión o UPS. Estas precauciones son de responsabilidad exclusiva del usuario que instalará el equipo siendo esencial para la cobertura por garantía. El equipo Smart Box que adquirió fue fabricado teniendo en cuenta las normas internacionales de seguridad que protegen al usuario contra descargas eléctricas en caso de falla y/o accidente en la red eléctrica. Para que esta protección funcione correctamente es imprescindible que el equipo esté conectado a un toma de tres puntos conectado a su vez a una buena tierra. Solamente conecte algún periférico o accesorio a su sistema cuando el mismo se encuentre desconectado. Guarde todo el material utilizado en el embalaje del equipo Smart Box; ellos son los mas indicados para transportar el equipo cada vez que se desea mover. Nunca obstruya las aberturas de ventilación del equipo Smart Box ya que fueron técnicamente diseñadas para garantizar la perfecta ventilación y el perfecto funcionamiento del equipo. Antes de limpiar el equipo, asegúrese que el mismo se encuentre desconectado de la red eléctrica. Para su limpieza utilice un paño apenas húmedo. No utilice detergentes, abrasivos o solventes. No intente reparar este equipo, ni permita que gente no autorizada lo haga. Hay riesgo de descarga eléctrica, incluso con el cable desconectado de la red eléctrica. Siempre que fuese necesario procure ponerse en contacto con los Centros de Servicio de Bematech. Configuraciones Especiales: Si el equipo Smart Box fue solicitado con sistema operativo de Microsoft, el mismo ya se encuentra pre-instalado. Verifique que la etiqueta de Certificación del producto Microsoft se encuentre adherida al gabinete del equipo. Para otros sistemas operativos y/o sistemas comerciales que estuvieren o fueran instalados en su equipo exija el certificado de autenticidad del mismo.
