1 Dear Quatama Families, Welcome to the school year! I hope you enjoyed a summer full of family and friends. My first year at Quatama flew by! Thank you for inviting me into your community and for your continued support. I can t wait to get started! This year we will continue our work with the Portland Metro STEM Partnership as well as the Right Brain Initiative, both supporting and enhancing our STEAM program (Science Technology Engineering Art & Math). Some dates for your calendar: For families new to Quatama, we will be hosting two school tours with a brief orientation. The first will be at 7:30 am and then again at 5:30 pm on Monday, August 24. Back to School Ice Cream Social - Thursday, September 3 from 4-6 pm. School begins for grades 1-6 on Tuesday, September 8. Kindergarten begins on Thursday, September 10. Please join me monthly at Coffee with the Principal. The first will be on September 25 at 8:30 am. I also invite you attend the Coyote Community Club Meetings, which occur monthly. More information will be available on September 3. Attendance is important to us here at Quatama, every minute counts! Please work hard to have your child here every day at 7:50 am. Parent drop off is on the West side of the building, busses will be parked on the East. Each day provides an opportunity for your child to grow socially as well as academically, we look forward to starting each one off together! New this year, the District Transportation Department is offering an online application for parents to access routing and scheduling information, determine walk zones, and more. Please refer to the mybus insert in this packet for instructions on how to access the system. You will not be receiving bus route or walker status notification by mail this year. Los recorridos serán el lunes 24 de agosto siendo el primero será a las 7:30am y el otro a las 5:30pm. Evento social con helado de egreso a la escuela: Jueves 3 de septiembre de 4:00pm-6:00pm El primer día de escuela para los grados 1-6, es el martes 8 de septiembre. El kínder comienza el jueves 10 de septiembre. Por favor acompáñenme en mi Café con la Directora cada mes. El primero será el 25 de septiembre a las 8:30am. También les invito asistir a las reuniones del Club Comunitario Coyote, cada mes. El 3 de septiembre tendremos más información. La asistencia es importante para nosotros aquí en Quatama, cada minuto cuenta. Por favor, trabajen duro para tener a sus hijos aquí todos los días a las 7:50am. Please pay particular attention to these items that require your ACTION: We need your current information to ensure we can reach you in the event of an emergency. Please log on to your ParentVUE account and review your information to see if we have your correct address, phone numbers, and address (your school can provide you with ParentVUE registration information). The number you indicate as your PRIMARY contact phone number is the one that will be called by our autodialer system for announcements, emergency messages or when your child is absent. If you also wish to receive these notifications via or text, having current information in our system is the way we can provide that to you. addresses can be updated by parents within ParentVUE. To change phone numbers, home addresses, or if you need assistance, please call or stop by the school. We need to know about permissions for your student. Photos, Website, Media, etc. We love to showcase the great things our students are doing by displaying photos and write-ups on our District website and social media pages. We do understand, however, that there are situations in which a parent might not want their child s photo taken. Please know that our STANDARD PROCESS IS TO ALLOW PHOTOS. If you are ok with this, no action is necessary. If you want to opt your child out of photos, please fill out a Release of Information Opt Out Form, available on our website under Parents/Back-To- School Information or from your school s office, and return it to your school s office for entry into Synergy. Statewide Summative Assessments. The District administers statewide summative assessments to students in grades 3-8 and 11 each spring. House Bill 2655 now requires districts to alert parents and adult students that they can choose to excuse a student from these assessments by submitting to the school or district a completed form established by the Oregon Department of Education. Additional information will be provided as soon as it is available SCHOOL CALENDARS The Board of Directors adopted the districtwide school calendar on March 17, The first days of school for students will be: Tuesday, Sept. 8 Grades 1-6, 7, 9 and all new, non-kindergarten students. Wednesday, Sept. 9 Grades 8 and Thursday, Sept. 10 Kindergarten School is projected to conclude on Thursday, June 16, However, in case inclement weather requires the District to close schools during the school year, days may be added to the school calendar as makeup days. If these days are added back to the calendar, high school graduation dates would not be affected. Any changes to the school calendar will be announced through the District website, newsletters, and the news media. SCHOOL VOLUNTEER PROCEDURES The Hillsboro School District welcomes and appreciates all volunteers and encourages your involvement in our schools! If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the online volunteer application and criminal background check authorization on our website. The process only takes a few minutes and, once you re cleared, you re good for two years! Parents and guardians can now determine if their student is in a designated walk zone or on a bus route using the mybus website. If your student takes the bus, you can retrieve routes, schedules, pickup or dropoff stops, and other information. Simply use your student s school ID and birthdate to log in to the website! Access to mybus will begin August 20. At the beginning of the school year, as Transportation finalizes bus routes, changes will be automatically posted be sure to check mybus regularly! mybus also will be updated as students change enrollment or are approved for alternate transportation. mybus is a quick and easy way to check your student s bus information at any time.
