Courageous, Caring, and Cooperative Ron Smiley, Ed.S., APEI We are winding down to the last six weeks of school, it is a very busy time of the year, be sure to check the calendar for upcoming events. Last Thursday, April 30 th was Conference Night as well as Doby s First Art Show. Thank you to the families that were able to attend and see these wonderful pieces of art produced by our students. As always, we are proud of our Navigators. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to all the dads and kids that came to school on April 18 th to help with our PTA landscaping project everyone worked so hard! The front of the school looks so different and very attractive. We plan on continuing this project on the south side of the campus in the future, so when the call comes, I hope you will consider joining us. On May 7 th, the Doby Chorus and Modern Band will be hosting their annual Spring Concert for your enjoyment. Be sure to come out in support of all their hard work and preparation for this event, it is sure to be a treat. Please look for more information coming to you shortly from Mr. Vyborny & Ms. Tower regarding this event. Parents, please discuss safety with your child. We have had students walking through the staff parking lot in the mornings. Although teachers are not on duty until after 7:30 AM, we do have some that arrive early. It is often still dark out in the morning and children may be hard to see. Please make sure that your child uses the sidewalks. June 5th, is last day of school and is an Early Release day. Reports cards will go home with students that day. Due to attendance not being placed on the report card until that day, no report card will be released early. If your child is not in attendance the last day of school, an adult will need to come by the office between the hours of 8:00-11:30 AM or 1:00-3:30 PM., on June 8 th, to pick it up. Remember, you must be listed on the student s emergency card and have a state-issued photo ID to have the report card released to you. 2 Doby PTA News Our PTA is made up of parents and teachers who make our school a great place. Would you like to be a member of PTA? You can join PTA for only $7 and be part of a fabulous group of individuals! This year we will have a contest to see which classroom can have the highest number of PTA members. Each classroom with 80% parent membership and 100% staff membership will earn an incentive party. Please help your child s teacher to rise to the challenge! Goals for this year: Purchase playground equipment for classrooms. Purchase trees for school landscaping. Purchase Renaissance Place Licenses a reading program for our students. Purchase student planners. School event nights Spring Fling, Fall Movie Night, Literacy Night, and Science Night Doby Dads program Upcoming PTA Events May 19th Kimi s Spirit Night May 27th PDQ Spirit Night The Doby PTA would like to extend a sincere Thank You to The Anderson Family and Myer s Nursery for their assistance with our new landscaping in the front of the school. We would also like to Thank Osprey Construction for the donation of the dumpster along with the PTA donation of $1,600 to purchase plants for the beautification of the school during our Doby Dads and Dogs landscaping day. Continue to clip and turn your box tops in a baggie with your teacher s name into the collection container in the cafeteria. The Doby PTA would also like to extend our appreciation to Mrs. Ferguson for the donation of $1,250 to purchase mulch for our wonderful new landscaping. And to our Custodians for their help in making sure the plants continue to be taken care of. Teacher Appreciation Week Teacher appreciation week is quickly approaching. We will celebrate the week of May 4th -8th. In order to make this a successful week for all the teachers, we will need volunteers and/or if you are able to donate gift cards and/or services. 4 Third Grade Third Grade would like to thank all the chaperones for attending our field trip to the Aquarium! We had an amazing time! And thank you to all the families who came out to help with our school landscaping project at the Doby Dads and Dogs event! Doby Duel will be held on May 6th, Congratulations to all the 3rd graders who made the team!! Keep working on your multiplication fact fluency. We want all 3rd graders to be invited to our ice cream party at the end of the year!!! Attention First Grade Parents: Happy last month of school! We will be preparing for second grade as we finish up the school year. We will also celebrate all of the progress we have made! It's the final countdown! Second Grade: As we enter May, we will be finishing up all our units in all subject areas and will begin to prepare our students for 3rd grade. Please continue reading with your child and having them retell you what they've read with details. We can't begin to thank you enough for all your support this year!! Attention: Parent/guardian requests for single subject acceleration or whole grade acceleration are due in writing to the principal by May 4th, 2015 for the school year. FDOE ESE Parent Survey The Florida Department of Education is conducting a survey for parents of students who have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), receive Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services and are currently attending a Florida Public School. The survey is open now through May 31st, 2015.

5 Spanish Corner Noticias Importantes en Español Nos acercamos a las últimas 6 semanas del año escolar. Por favor asegúrese de revisar el calendario de eventos. Muchísimas gracias a todos los padres y estudiantes que colaboraron con el proyecto de jardinería para embellecer el frente de la escuela. Padres de estudiantes que caminan a la escuela, por favor conversen con sus hijos acerca de la importancia de caminar por la acera y no atravesarse por el estacionamiento de los maestros. La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes es muy importante!! El 5 de junio, es el último día de clases. La boleta de calificaciones será enviada a casa ese día. Si su hijo/a esta ausente, un adulto tendrá que presentarse en la oficina de la escuela a recoger la boleta el día 8 de junio entre las 8:00 y 11:30 de la mañana o entre la 1:00 y 3:30 de la tarde. El adulto que se presente tiene que aparecer como contacto en la tarjeta de emergencias de la escuela y tendrá que presentar su identificación. El departamento de ESE (Educación Excepcional del Estudiante), esta conduciendo una encuesta para los padres de los estudiantes que tienen un IEP (Plan Individualizado de Educación) o reciben servicios ESE. La encuesta estará abierta hasta el día 31 de mayo. Nuestra Asociación de Padres de Familia o PTA, esta conformada por padres y maestros quienes hacen de nuestra escuela un lugar estupendo para nuestros estudiantes. Este mes queremos darle un agradecimiento muy especial a Doby PTA por donar $1600 dólares para el proyecto de jardinería realizado en el evento Doby Dads and Dogs. 7 Doby Elementary School Attendance Line Information Parents, daily attendance is taken promptly at 8:00AM. If your child arrives to school after attendance is taken or if you contact the school to report your child s absence, you will still receive an automated phone call stating that your child was marked absent.
