3 the baptism of the lord january 11, 2015 JMJ JMJ 6 January de enero 2015 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always Querida Familia Parroquial, Dios esté siempre con nosotros! So are things back to normal? This is the question several of my friends asked me during the days following Christmas. My knee jerk response is to say yes to keep it short, but upon further reflection and prayer the answer I would have given is, No it is not back to normal. The reason being that the Advent and Christmas Season with everything that it entails, should have had a lasting effect in my life, and in our lives, which means things cannot go back to normal. The Spirit and Essence of the Season should have brought significant blessings and changes in our life and the way we live from Christmas day. The New Year gives us a perfect opportunity to reorder our lives, let the Light of the Spirit emanating from the Christ Child in the manger keep guiding our minds and warming our hearts. As we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord let us reflect and pray on how to bring into our lives the gifts of our adoption into God s Family: faith, hope and love. Our sharing in the Mission of our Saviour Jesus Christ is to bring the good news to all the world. May we all agree that indeed things are not back to normal because we have faith, hope and love incarnate with us; Jesus the Emmanuel. "Entonces, las cosas vuelven a la normalidad?" Esta es la pregunta que varios de mis amigos me hicieron durante los días siguientes a la Navidad. Mi respuesta instintiva es decir sí para hacerlo breve, pero después de reflexionar y de orar, la respuesta que debí haber dado es no, no he vuelto a la normalidad. La razón es que el tiempo de Adviento y Navidad, deberían haber tenido un efecto duradero en mi vida, en nuestras vidas lo que significa que "las cosas no pueden volver a la normalidad." El Espíritu y la Esencia de la Temporada deberían haber traído bendiciones y cambios significativos en nuestra vida y nuestra forma de vivir desde el día de Navidad. El año nuevo nos da una oportunidad perfecta para volver a ordenar nuestras vidas, dejemos que la Luz del Espíritu que emana del Niño Jesús en el pesebre se mantenga guiando nuestras mentes y calentando nuestros corazones. La celebración del Bautismo del Señor, nos permite reflexionar y orar en cómo traer a la vida los dones recibidos en nuestra adopción en la familia de Dios: la fe, la esperanza y el amor. Nuestro compartir en la misión de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo de llevar la Buena Nueva a todo el mundo. 5 Santiago de Compostela Caregiver Support Group Are you a family caregiver in need of an inspirational place for support and fellowship? You are invited to join the Santiago de Compostela Caregiver Support Group. We meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm in the library of the parish hall to provide emotional, educational, and social support to family caregivers through the sharing of fellowship and faith. Santiago Meal Ministry Santiago has a Meal Ministry that provides short term assistance to parishioners in need of meals due to illness or incapacity to cook. Let s work together to evangelize and share your ministry s great works of stewardship. Pennies From Heaven Save the date and your change! Respect Life Ministry will be conducting the Pennies From Heaven fundraising campaign on the weekend of January 17 and 18. Please consider donating your coins and dollars to support local Respect Life shelters, clinics, and centers that give immediate and long-term care to Orange County women, men, and families in crisis. This year the proceeds will benefit the Birth Choice clinics, Mary's Shelter, Casa Teresa, Vietnamese Hot Line, Life Centers, and Precious Life Shelter. Last year $240, was raised in the diocese. 6 Confirmation and Youth Ministry Fifth Class for Confirmation I Tuesday, February 3 from 7pm to 8:30pm in the parish hall classrooms. Fourth Class for CII Tuesday January 13 from 7pm to 8:30pm in the parish hall classrooms. If you have not turned your Saint report into the YM office or want to change your saint, turn the report in to your catechist now at class. Parents to Chaperone include: Guevarra, Moran, Azalde, Salvador, Carney, Grace Garcia, Connair, Santo Tomas, Maldonado, Maimone, and Salunga. January Retreat for both CI and CII Friday, January 30 through Sunday, February 1 for students who signed up and paid in full. Call or Joanne to verify your retreat. Paperwork including permit will be sent out in early January. There are a few spaces available if you haven t yet signed up or would like to change from the March retreat to this one. Youth Day 2015 for CI and CII Students Limited tickets for this Youth Rally are now available for $40 in the YM office. Event is on Thursday, March 12 from 6am to 4pm and counts for four Faith Sharing events. You will miss school to attend. Seventh Faith Sharing Saturday, January 24 is a Parent speaker from the Newport Beach Police Department Detective Division, Vlad Anderson, speaking on the current state of Cyber Safety. We would like every parent to attend this special event. Students will be in with a separate speaker. Parents signed up to cook and serve and chaperone on this night include: Maribel Rodriguez, Elda Sevilla, Rose Villareal, Lyanamar Pena-Medina, Centento, Glenn, Alarcon, Newman, Tellez, Carney, Cecelia Hernandez, and Delia Hernandez. Service: Recycling is the second Saturday of every month from 8am to 12pm in the lower parking lot to work this four hour service project with the Knights of Columbus. Vacation is a great time to work on your service requirement. For every project always remember to get your community service hour form signed by the project supervisor. Wade, that legalized abortion, Bishop Vann invites all the Catholic community to observe this day as a Day of Reparation. Catholics are encouraged to practice fasting, abstinence, and prayer on that day. You are also invited to attend an Evening Prayer on Thursday, January 22, 2015 to pray for an end to abortion and a renewed respect for all human life in American society. Service will begin at 7pm in the Arboretum of Christ Cathedral, Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove. There will be witness speakers and we will also honor Ruth Rozak, Director of the Santa Ana Life Center. A reception and ministry fair will follow on the 1st floor of the Cultural Center. Spiritual Pilgrimage Fr. Patrick Moses, pastor of St Irenaeus parish in Cypress, is leading a spiritual pilgrimage to Italy and Medjugorje, primarily to see the Shroud of Turin which will be open for viewing for only 67 days. Other included sites will be Rome, Venice, Milan, and Padua. Michael Kazemi, an Immigration Lawyer will be in the Parish Hall to discuss the new, but not yet in effect, Presidential Initiative on Immigration. Michael is known in our Spanish community both as an advocate and a source of information. Permítanme compartir mi testimonio. No recuerdo los eventos del día en que me bautizaron, pero tengo años recordando que, gracias a Dios y mis padres, estoy bautizado. Trato de vivir mi vida recordando mi bautismo, buscando que mi comportamiento sea digno de una persona bautizada. Fui bautizado al mes de haber nacido, y confirmado cuando tenía sólo un añito (eran otros tiempos). Hice mi primera (y no última) comunión a los siete años. Continuaba asistiendo a las clases de catecismo (doctrina), no obstante, cuando cumplí 17 años, sentí que algo me faltaba. Mis amigos protestantes me invitaban a sus Iglesias, pero yo buscaba a Dios en mi Iglesia católica. Un día, gracias al grupo carismático recibí el bautismo en el Espíritu Santo y desde ese momento mi vida cambió. Ahora sé que el Espíritu lo había recibido en mi Bautismo, Confirmación y Primera Comunión, lo único que debía hacer era permitirle actuar en mi vida. Creo que en la vida de muchos cristianos, el Espíritu Santo sigue esperando que le den permiso de actuar. Y tú, qué esperas? Pídele al Espíritu que se mueva en tí y vive tu Bautismo. Presentaciones de Bebés y Niños La presentación y bendición de bebés recién nacidos, bebés de 40 o de 90 días de nacidos, y niños de 3 años se hará al finalizar las Misas dominicales en español de 1:45pm y 6pm. Los padres del bebé deben venir 2 semanas antes de la presentación, a la oficina de los Ministerios Hispanos, de lunes a viernes de 9:30am a 12:30pm o llamar al teléfono ext. 239 para poder ser anotado para la Misa dominical en la que se quiera presentar el niño. Esta charla será para ofrecer información y aclarar dudas sobre la nueva (aunque aún no en efecto) iniciativa presidencial sobre inmigración. El abogado Michael es conocido en la comunidad hispana por su trabajo en favor del inmigrante y como fuente confiable de información. Recuerda: Jueves 15 de Enero a las 7pm en el salón parroquial. Día de Reparación por el Aborto 42ª Observancia de la decisión de la Corte Suprema sobre Roe v Wade. En observancia de la decisión de la Corte Suprema sobre Roe v. Wade, el Obispo Vann invita a toda la comunidad católica a observar el día como un Día de Reparación. Se les invita a los católicos a practicar el ayuno, la abstinencia y la oración en ese día. También están invitados a asistir a la Oración Vespertina el jueves 22 de enero del 2015 para orar por el fin del aborto y un renovado respeto por toda vida humana en la sociedad Americana. El servicio dará principio a las 7pm en el Arboreto de la Catedral de Cristo, Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove.
