3 MR. KLING s KORNER A Word From Our Assistant Principal Happy Spring, Congratulations to our 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th grade students! They did an excellent job during the administration of the Maryland School Assessments (MSA). They all worked very hard and did their very best! Thank you to our primary students for cheering them on. We are so fortunate to have great students! Some important dates: The last day of the third marking period is April 3 rd, which will be a 2-hour early dismissal day. The fourth marking period begins on April 4 th ; report cards for the third marking period will be sent home on April 11 th. Registration for our upcoming kindergarten students begins April 8 th ; we look forward meeting our new mustangs! As of written this newsletter article, Spring Break is scheduled for April 14 th -21 st. Keep your ears open for changes to the spring vacation to make up for days lost due to snow. Thank you to all of the hard working volunteers who make our special events and programs a success! These special days and events certainly add excitement and joy for our students. There will be many more fun and exciting programs and events in the upcoming months. Please check the school calendar in the Newsletter or whiteboard in the lobby, as well as watch for flyers and announcements in your child s backpack. I hope your spring is off to a great start! Enjoy the beautiful weather and the beginning of the baseball season! Fondly, Mr. Kling

Ellos hicieron un excelente trabajo durante la administración de los exámenes de Maryland School Asssessments (MSA). Todos trabajaron muy duramente para hacer lo mejor! Gracias a los estudiantes primarios por ovacionarlos. Nosotros somos afortunados por tener maravillosos estudiantes! Algunos días importantes: El último día del tercer periodo es abril 3, que será 2 horas salida temprana. El cuarto periodo marcado comenzará Abril 4; los reportes del tercer periodo serán enviados al hogar abril 11. Registración para los nuevos estudiantes de Kindergarten comenzará abril 8. Las vacaciones de Pascua son desde abril 14 al 21. Manténganse alerta para cualquier cambio que hubiera para recuperar los días perdidos por los días nevados. 7 APRIL BAND NEWS....Mrs. Prigelmiller Band students have been working to create clear tone while recognizing and fingering notes quickly. Our Spring concert music uses more complex rhythms, faster tempos, a variety of articulations and higher and lower notes. Our Spring Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th. Commitment letters will be coming home soon. Please encourage thoughtful home practice daily so your child can master the skills in our more challenging songs. MUSIC is SOUND Learning!

8 News from the Health Room Parents: If you have received a vision or hearing notification of failure letter, please make an appointment to have your child s vision and/or hearing evaluated. After the report (back of notification letter) is completed and signed by your child s physician, it should be returned to the Health Room. A phone call to the Health Room letting us know that you have followed up on this matter will also suffice. 15 Socializing Online Social networking sites, chat rooms, virtual worlds, and blogs are how teens and tweens socialize online. Kids share pictures, videos, thoughts, and plans with friends, others who share their interests, and sometimes, the world at large. Socializing online can help kids connect with friends, and even their family members, but it s important to help your child learn how to navigate these spaces safely. Among the pitfalls that come with online socializing are sharing too much information, or posting pictures, video, or words that can damage a reputation or hurt someone s feelings. Applying real world judgment and sense can help minimize those downsides. What can you do? Remind your kids that online actions can reverberate. The words they write and the images they post have consequences offline. Explain to your kids why it s a good idea to post only information that they are comfortable with others seeing. A broader audience than you may see some of your child s profile or they are comfortable with, even if privacy settings are on. Encourage your child to think about the language they use online, and to think before posting pictures and videos, or altering photos posted by someone else. Employers, college admissions officers, coaches, teachers, and the police may view your child posts. Remind your kids that once they post information online, they can t take it back. Even if they delete the information from a site, they have little control over older versions that may exist on other people s computers and circulate online. Use privacy settings to restrict who can access and post on your child s profile. Some social networking sites, chat rooms, and blogs have strong privacy settings. Talk to your kids about these settings, and your expectations for who should be allowed to view their profile.
