11 The Social impact of the coffee crisis 323,000 coffee jobs were estimated tohave been lost in Guatemala since the onset of the crisis while in El Salvador, where the coffee industry accounted for up to 43% of the employment in the mid-1990s an estimated 600,000 jobs were lost.
