2 City of Sanger- Summary of Public Input Public Outreach and Meetings Public outreach was conducted in July and August of 2015 and public meetings were held on Tuesday, August 18 and Thursday, August 20, 2015 to invite the public to comment on the development of the City s Draft ADA Master Plan for Public Pedestrian Traffic Facilities. During this presentation the project background and ADA requirements were discussed. Public comments after the second presentation included: Peter Shiver, 507 I Street, asked if surveys and the accessibility of surveys are ADA compliant. Fred Heisman asked if the City could use the Chamber s electronic board to inform residents of the survey. Questionnaire Prior to the public meetings, a questionnaire was circulated locally as well as posted online for public input on Sanger ADA issues in the Public Right-of-Way. Copies of the questionnaire are included in this appendix, as well as a copy of the public meeting presentation materials. 5 City of Sanger Accessibility Master Plan The City of Sanger is in the process of preparing an Accessibility Master Plan for the transportation facilities and services provided to the public within the City. A grant from the State of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) was received to help fund the work. The City retained an architectural consultant to prepare surveys, reports and cost estimates required by Caltrans. The Master Plan being prepared is meant to comply with portions of the requirements of the Americans w/disabilities Act (ADA), which are placed on all municipalities to improve access of policies, procedures, and facilities to persons with disabilities. The work included in the current project specifically relates to transportation facilities and policies. A critical part of the Accessibility Master Plan is getting input from Sanger citizens regarding how they use the City s transportation systems. The City of Sanger is asking all Sanger residents, community organizations, and businesses to provide feedback relating to transportation elements in the City. These elements include public sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic signal pedestrian crossings, public transportation, public works street standards, etc. The information provided will be used to help develop a system to prioritize needed improvements. The City has provided three specific ways to provide feedback. 1. A questionnaire can be picked up at City Hall or printed off the City website and written feedback can be returned to City Hall. 2. An online survey has been created to allow feedback to be given back to city staff. 3. Comments can be given at two public meetings; at the Sanger Community Center, 730 Recreation Avenue at 8:30am on August 18 th, and 6pm in the City Council Chambers, th Street on August 20 th. All feedback and comments must be received by the close of business on Friday August 21 st. The City encourages all interested parties that utilize the City of Sanger s transportation facilities to provide comments and feedback to help develop the Accessibility Master Plan. The Plan is meant to comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which ensure that all municipalities provide equal access to programs, services, and facilities to all persons, including those with disabilities. Work included in the current project specifically relates to only those facilities within, and policies affecting, the public rights-of-way (i.e. streets and sidewalks). We need YOUR input. We are asking all Sanger residents, community organizations and businesses to provide feedback on the City s draft Plan. The draft Plan includes the legislative background for the project, the goals and objectives of the project, a comprehensive self-evaluation of the City s public pedestrian infrastructure, and a plan to bring accessibility deficiencies into compliance.
