Psalm 85:12 Dear Parishioners, As we continue to endure the heat of this summer season, I am aware that many of you have been away to escape the Arizona heat. I truly missed you in the parish while you were gone. Hopefully, all will be back soon for Sunday worship together. I would like to announce that we have been so blessed with the assignment of Father Gerald Barmesse, C.S.C. as Associate Pastor. As you know Father has recently returned from his mission work in South America and is happy to continue his ministry to the people of St Louis the King. We welcome him with all our hearts. I would like to announce that I have appointed Mrs. Eileen Burgoz as our new office manager and administrative assistant, serving both the parish and school. thank you, Mrs Burgoz, for serving as a faithful, loving member of our staff. I also would like you to know how pleased I am at your response to the Charity and Development Appeal (CDA) which meets so many needs in our diocese. Again the parish goal of $46,000 was achieved! Thank you! You will also be happy to know that our parish and school will be receiving a CDA grant of $42,000 for scholarships from the Diocese to assist us in the coming year. Your response to the special appeal I made for the asbestos removal and remodeling of McFadden Hall was amazing. Parishioners contributed over $15,000 in last weeks special collection to complete this project. Special thanks to all of you who made donations so that we will soon be able to use McFadden Hall. SCHOOL It s hard to believe another year is about to get underway. All parents and students are invited to attend the Back to School Mass and Potluck on Saturday, August 16. The school will provide hotdogs and beverages. Come and reconnect with old friends and meet new ones! STEWARDSHIP Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Romans 12:6-8 In practicing good stewardship, it is not about time or abilities, or money, but all three, given to make known God s love for this world. We are healed not to retire from God s service, but to serve God s world. We are always called upon to practice good stewardship. Father of Mercy, forgive my failings, keep me in Your Grace, and lead me in the way of salvation. Give me strength in serving You as a follower of Christ. May the Eucharist bring me Your Forgiveness and give me freedom to serve You all my life. May it help me to remain faithful and give me the grace I need in Your service. También serán felices de saber que nuestra parroquia y la escuela van a recibir una beca CDA de $ para becas de la Diócesis que nos ayudarán el próximo año. Su respuesta fue increíble a la apelación especial que hice para remover asbestos y la remodelación de Salón McFadden. 7 GLENDALE, ARIZONA PAGE 7 TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Hoy celebramos la memoria del santo patrono de los cocineros, san Lorenzo. Este español del siglo tercero fue uno de siete diáconos del Papa Sixto II, en Roma. Su ministerio consistía en repartir limosnas a los pobres. En el año 257 se pronunció una nueva persecución a los cristianos en Roma y el día 6 de agosto unos soldados romanos asesinaron al Papa y a cuatro de sus diáconos. Lorenzo, cuyo nombre significa laureado o premiado, fue arrestado tras la batalla y llevado ante el alcalde de Roma. Este mandó traer todas las riquezas de la Iglesia, pero Lorenzo ya hacía tiempo que las había vendido para dar el dinero a los más necesitados. No obstante, se marchó de la presencia del alcalde para luego llegar con él, acompañado de gente pobre y enferma, insistiendo que ellos eran las verdaderas riquezas de la Iglesia. El alcalde, furioso, lo mandó quemar sobre brazas para que muriera lentamente. Según testigos de su martirio, Lorenzo, a cierto punto dijo a sus asesinos: Ya estoy asado de este lado, voltéenme para asarme por completo.
