2 Youth Ministry Happenings Summer Social Youth Ministry will be having a night of fun and fellowship on Friday, July 12 from 7:30-9:00pm here at the parish. Meet us out by the playground for pizza and a game of soccer. This is a great way to get connected with other youth from our parish and just have a good time! Please contact Emily if you are coming so we can order enough pizza. NCYC Sign-Up The National Catholic Youth Conference is a powerful, biennial, three-day experience of prayer, community, and empowerment for Catholic teenagers (of high school age) and their adult chaperones. The Conference this year is happening November 21-23, We are looking to take a large group from St. Monica this year. Cost is $255 and financial assistance is available. We will be commuting this year to save on costs. Transportation is still being determined. This is chaperone-led trip and we are in need of adult volunteers (21 years or older) who are VIRTUS trained and have a background check to be our group leaders. National Natural Family Planning Awareness Week is July Pro-Woman, Pro-Man, Pro-Child is the theme of this year s Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, a national educational campaign of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). NFP is an umbrella term for the safe, natural and effective methods of both achieving and avoiding pregnancy. NFP methods teach couples how to observe and interpret the woman s signs of fertility and infertility. The Couple to Couple League of Indianapolis and the diocese of Lafayette will be celebrating NFP Week with a Mass, Speaker, and Reception at St. Monica's beginning at 5:30pm on Wednesday, July 24, ending with a Holy Hour and Benediction from 8-9pm. CATHOLICISM Video Series CATHOLICISM by Father Robert Barron will be shown this summer starting this week. Please join us on Tuesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 11 at 7:00pm - 8:30pm in the St. Augustine Room for episodes 1 & 2 of this beautiful series. Each episode takes the viewer on a tour of the Catholic world and effectively displays the JOY of the Catholic faith. Mass of Remembrance & Brunch Here at St. Monica we recognize the loss many of our parishioners have recently experienced in the death of a husband, wife, or other significant loved one. In remembrance of your loss, we invite you to join us in a special Mass in the chapel here at St. Monica on Friday, July 19 at 12:00 PM. A brunch will follow where you will be able to share memories and struggles with others who are also trying to cope with the loss of a loved one. 3 Transportation Help Needed A Hispanic adult male needs transportation two times weekly (Mondays and Thursdays) round trip between Little Sisters of the Poor at 86th Street and Township Road to St. Vincent main hospital for dialysis treatment. Eagle Scout Project to Help Humane Society of Indianapolis Danny Sweeney is a Boy Scout in Troop 514 at St. Monica Parish. His Eagle Project is to install 2 dog ponds for the Humane Society of Indianapolis s dog park. He currently is collecting monetary donations to acquire the proper materials. RCIA Inquiry Classes Inquiry is one part of the RCIA process; it is a time to welcome persons who are curious about faith and about Catholicism, and to respond in answer to the many questions that they may have. Those who inquire can come to any or all Inquiry Sessions: they will not be pressured to become Catholic at any time, but if they should decide to become Catholic, Inquiry is the necessary starting point. St. Monica now boasts a full-fledged Inquiry Team who will offer Inquiry year-round which means that curious persons can come at any time. The next two Inquiry Sessions will be Sunday, July 14 at 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon, and Wednesday, July 24 at 7:00-8:30 PM. Ritter HS Uniform Sale The Cardinal Ritter Parent Club will be coordinating the new & used uniform sale. The sale will be held in the Cardinal Ritter cafeteria on Friday, July 12 from 3:00pm - 6:00pm and Saturday, July 13 from 10:00am-12:00pm. 4 St. Vincent Foundation Cancer Walk You can inspire hope for cancer patients right here in Central Indiana. Form a team to participate in the St. Vincent Cancer Walk on Saturday, September 21 at Lions Park in Zionsville. Your journey to inspire HOPE for men, women and children facing cancer can start today at Stephen Ministry Training Stephen Ministry is an international organization that trains lay people to serve as caring ministers to hurting people in congregations throughout the United States and overseas. St. Vincent Health is currently recruiting and training people who are caring, spiritually mature candidates to visit and offer spiritual support to their patients. Training lasts 50 hours and the cost is $100. Scholarships are available for those who qualify. For more information and for an application, contact the St. Vincent Pastoral Care Office by August 12. The number is For more information about Stephen Ministry in general, visit their website at Divorce and Beyond Divorce and Beyond is a six-session Catholic based program designed to help guide people through the process of divorce. The program will help men and women through the journey of stress, anger, blame and guilt, toward ultimate forgiveness, happiness and growth. The next session will July 9 through August 13, :00-9:00 p.m. at the Catholic Center, 1400 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis. The topics for discussion will be the process of divorce, self-image, stress, anger, blame, guilt, loneliness, and forgiveness. The cost is $30.00, which includes program materials. Regardless of age or income, seek out ways to be physically active Helping The Lord s Pantry The Lord's Pantry depends on the nonperishable foods we bring in each week and put in the blue food bin in the Narthex. The Pantry services around 100 clients each week, every Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, 5136 N. Michigan Road. Trying to get answers or information on how to find resources and services about employment, utility assistance, legal advice, ESL, health care access, housing and other services and programs? St. Monica Church has an Immigrant Welcome Center Branch open every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Help is provided in Spanish, French, Kiswahili and English. Catholic Business Exchange Jim McClelland, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, will speak at the July Catholic Business Exchange. His topic will be: From Faithbased Origins to 21st Century Approaches to Social Problems. The event is Friday, July 19, at the North Side Knights of Columbus. Mass starts at 6:30am and the program will be finished by 8:30am. Cost for the program includes a great breakfast and is $15 in advance for members and $21 for non-members. Registration is required. Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body of parishioners who assist the Pastor in guiding the parish on issues requiring practical wisdom and investigation. The PPC has three purposes: 1) to investigate pastoral matters; 2) to give these matters in-depth consideration and prayer; and 3) to propose practical conclusions and assist in cultivating our vision. Twelve parishioners discerned their participation on PPC for a threeyear term through June 30, 2015 related to the parish theme of Immersed in Christ: One Body. One Mission.
