3 Feed my sheep! Pastor s Note ~ 29th of June, 2014 On this Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, we remember, give thanks, and celebrate the witness of these two great figures in our life of faith. We remember these men for the zeal they manifested in the preaching of the gospel to all the nations and to the ends of the earth. Through that zeal, Peter and Paul brought the Name of Jesus to the hearts of many. Today, we pray that the same zeal makes itself present in the leaders of Church from the local parish to the Holy See. We ask that the Spirit continue to inspire us as the baptized to witness to the Gospel of Christ through the example of our lives. As it was with Peter and Paul, they encountered many challenges in preaching the gospel. Both ultimately gave their very lives for the sake of the gospel. Remembering both of them is intended to inspire us in our witness to the faith. We may often find the tendency to compromise our faith for the sake of keeping the peace or being politically correct. But is it really worth sacrificing our integrity? We see in the lives of Peter and Paul the fruits of their faithfulness to the Gospel. Imagine what can also be for us, when we follow their example, integrity, and fidelity to Christ. This weekend, I want to take the opportunity to give a special thank you to Sr. Nancy McInerny for what she has given of herself to the life of our parish community. We thank the Religious Sisters of Mercy for allowing her to minister and serve our parish. At the end of this month, Sister Nancy will be retiring from active ministry in our parish. But Sister Nancy will continue to be present in some of the parish ministries on a voluntary basis, so it is not necessarily a goodbye. As pastor, I appreciate her continuous presence in the parish. Thank you Sister Nancy! This week, we had our Vacation Bible School, twelve years running. I want to thank Jennifer Campbell for her leadership, and I want to thank the many volunteers who helped facilitate, guide, and accompany our young brothers and sisters participating in the program. I want to thank the parents for your continuing support of the program. I look forward to twelve and even more years of doing VBS. To our brothers and sisters participating in VBS --- THANK YOU for inspiring us through the joy you showed us this week. You made us find the treasure that is Christ, who is in each of you. Be reminded of the upcoming Luau Dinner generously hosted by our Knights of Columbus. All the proceeds of the evening will go to the parish. We also want this to be an enjoyable evening that will help build our relationships and get to know more those with whom we share our parish life. God bless!
