2 CHRIST THE KING November 22, 2015 Today the Church celebrates and honors our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. To Jesus Christ be glory and power for ever and ever! His majesty and splendor and his Kingdom is everlasting, a Kingdom of peace and justice, a Kingdom of truth and love, a Kingdom of righteousness and everlasting happiness. Lord, you are our King. We renew our allegiance and obedience to you as our King. Thy Kingdom come! Amen! Alleluia! To Teach Who Christ Is (TTWCI) Campaign A vibrant parish life is central to fulfilling the mission of the Church. To Teach Who Christ Is will help strengthen and sustain parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. Funds will remain at the parishes (60%) to ensure our faith communities are economically stable and can continue to bear hope through their presence, sacramental life, and ministries. Each parish has been assigned a campaign target. We have set our parish target for $2M so we can retain $1.4 M for our parish. Parishes will keep the 60 percent of all funds they raise for needs they identify, and will share the remaining 40 percent with other parishes and ministries for the benefit of Catholics throughout the Archdiocese. Parishes exceeding their goals will receive 100 percent of funds collected above their target. Parishes are best able to identify the needs of their communities, and will have sole discretion on the direction of the funds they raise. Local priorities to date include building expansion, repairing facilities, reducing debt, establishing parish endowments, and expanding ministries. Please pray for the success of this campaign, as parishes in Wave V, which includes us, will begin in January PADS -Lake County (Helping the homeless) After a thorough consultation with our Parish Pastoral Council and the Community Social Services executive board, I have decided to open the doors of our parish to PADS as our way of helping our brothers and sisters who are in need of temporary shelter (every Friday evening until Saturday morning). This will be from October to April of each year. There will be more details to follow. We will keep you posted. Peace! Fr. Campaña Enseñar Quien Es Cristo (TTWCI) Una vida parroquial vibrante es fundamental para el cumplimiento de la misión de la Iglesia. La Campaña Enseñar Quien Es Cristo ayudará a fortalecer y sostener parroquias en la Arquidiócesis de Chicago. Los fondos se quedarán en las parroquias (60%) para asegurar que nuestras comunidades de fe estén económicamente estables y puedan continuar llevando esperanza a través de su presencia, vida sacramental, y ministerios. A cada parroquia se le ha asignado una meta para la campaña. Nuestra meta parroquial es de $2M para que nuestra parroquia se pueda quedar con $1.4M. Las parroquias se quedarán con el 60 por ciento de todos los fondos recaudados para las necesidades que identifiquen, y compartirán el 40 por ciento restante con otras parroquias y ministerios para el beneficio de Católicos a través de la Arquidiócesis. 3 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe "Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." Once they wear the crown, earthly kings don't have to win the allegiance of their subjects; if you live in the kingdom, you're part of the kingdom and are under the authority of the king. But things are different with Jesus. As the Lord told Pilate, "my kingdom does not belong to this world." His subjects are not given by default. His kingdom is not established in a particular place or even in a particular time. Rather, the realm of the King of the universe encompasses all the other kingdoms of the world. And everyone, regardless of any earthly allegiance, is invited to be the privileged subject of this King. The key to entering this kingdom, as Jesus says, is to listen to his voice. Heeding the voice- -the teachings, the guidance, the commandments--of Jesus enables us to belong to this kingdom that is founded upon truth. Jesus defines his authority in these terms: "For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth." As Christians, we profess to follow the King of kings. Therefore, as members of his royal realm, we too should be about the business of testifying to the truth. Of course there are many ways to defend the truth in our modern age. Upholding the dignity of life and protecting religious liberty are two examples of the pressing issues of our day. But even more fundamental is the basic claim we make: that Jesus is in fact God-made-man and that, through his death and resurrection, he has saved us from our sins. This Gospel message, both simple and profound, is a truth that never grows old. Let us boldly profess the truth of the Gospel as we invite all those we encounter to join in the joy of the kingdom of Jesus. Durante todo el año hemos celebrado los misterios de Cristo por los cuales todos hemos recibido la salvación. Hoy en todo el mundo católico se escuchará el canto de "Viva Cristo Rey". Éste es el Rey que es un signo de contradicción para muchos. Recordemos que su nacimiento fue anunciado por los ángeles de la siguiente manera: "Hoy les ha nacido, en la ciudad de David, un salvador" (Lc 2, 11). Después el Evangelio nos lo muestra así: "Este es mi Hijo muy amado, en quien tengo mis complacencias" (Mt 3, 17). Y luego en Mateo: "Ha salvado a otros y no puede salvarse a sí mismo. Si es el rey de Israel, que baje de la cruz y creeremos en él" (Mt 27, 42). Jesús provocó toda su vida confrontaciones entre su pueblo. Siempre rechazó privilegios y condecoraciones. Hoy, por fin, le da respuesta a Pilato: "Tú lo has dicho. Soy rey" (Jn 18, 37). Por qué crees tú que Jesús se declara rey? Cuál crees que es la verdad sobre el amor de Dios y sobre la nueva vida que Jesús nos propone? Durante el año vivimos con Jesús y sus enseñanzas. Lo acompañamos hacia su camino a Jerusalén y hoy nos muestra su verdadera realeza en la cruz. Ser y vivir en la verdad implica este compromiso de tomar la cruz junto con Jesús. Las lecturas de Daniel y del Apocalipsis nos indican claramente que Jesús es rey en otra dimensión: su soberanía jamás será destruida; tiene dominio en la tierra y en el cielo. Señor, ayúdanos a reconocer tu realeza!
