Bounce House Permit & Picnic Information: Natividad Creek, Sherwood & Hartnell Parks All Park Bounce House Permits are taken at the Recreation Center- 320 Lincoln Avenue. For more information, call All bounce house permits are required to be submitted to the Recreation Center, before 12:00 noon the Thursday before your event. Prior to submitting a Bounce House Permit to our office, you must reserve a Bounce House from an approved vendor and specify on the permit which vendor will be setting up for your event. The Bounce House vendor that is specified will be the only company allowed to set-up on the day of your event. A $40.00 fee is required per bounce house permit. There is a limited number of designated Bounce House Areas at Natividad Creek Park, Sherwood Park and Hartnell Park. Bounce House permits will be issued on a first come, first served basis. The bounce house shall not be placed in a City park earlier than 8am on the day for which the permit is issued. The Bounce House must be removed from the park no later than sunset on the day for which the permit is issued. There are no exceptions to these Rules! Little Libraries The Friends of the Salinas Public Library has established Little Libraries in the following parks: El Gabilan Park 263 Toro Ave. Mckinnon Park 1700 McKinnon Street Central Park 320 Central Ave. Claremont Manor Monterey Park 1220 San Fernando Dr. Maple Park 860 Los Palos Dr. Little Libraries operate on a take a book-leave a book philosophy. They are a gathering place for neighbors to read and connect with each other. Each Little Library has a steward or head Librarian. They gather books, replace books as families take the books and watch over their park s Little Library. If you are interested in a Little Library for your park or becoming a steward, you can contact the Friends of the Salinas Public Library at salinasplfriends@gmail.com. Natividad Creek Park Disc Golf Natividad Creek Disc Golf Course offers the fun of traditional golf but in a cross-county setting using discs( Frisbee-like) rather than golf clubs and balls. Each hole is finished by landing your shot in a specially-designed basket. Disc golf is free to everyone and is open during normal park hours. Our course at Natividad Creek Park caters to families of all ages and abilities, allows for experienced players to enhance their technique of specialty shots including doglegs, tress, elevation changes, and additional challenges. The disc golf course offers 18 walkable holes spread throughout the Natividad Creek Park(east of Freedom Blvd.) It s a course designed to be scenic and fun for all ages. Family Reading Circle Family Reading Circles will give participants the opportunity to practice their reading skills and share their stories with other participants in an enjoyable environment. This program will run for six weeks and is open to the public. Participants will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the César Chávez Library in the Teen Area. 3 Youth Sports & Athletic Activities Salinas Recreation Center: 320 Lincoln Ave. Phone: (831) The Recreation Center offers a variety of recreational sporting activities for all age groups. Special programs and indoor sports highlight the Center s year-round programs. The facility is available when not in use by our Library and Community Services Department or other city programs. SPORTS FACILITIES RESERVATIONS: Usage permits are required for use of the City s baseball diamonds, Little League diamonds, softball diamond and soccer fields. Camp Dates: July 20 24, 2015 Ages: Kindergarten through 8th grade (to be eligible to participate you must be going into kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in August 2015). Camp Location: Hartnell College Soccer Complex Fee: $15.00 Time: Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade is 1:00pm 3:30pm 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade is 1:00pm-4:00pm Register now at the Recreation Center, 320 Lincoln Ave. Monday thru Thursday 8:00am-5:30pm. The Breadbox provides professionally designed and supervised programs that benefit all ages - children, youth, and teens; our Programs promote personal growth and self-esteem and contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by all Salinas residents. If you are interested in being a Green Teen, please call us for more information The Great R.A.C.E Summer Series The Great Recreation Activities Challenges & Exercises provides youth with an opportunity to engage in daily recreation activities that involve strategic and critical thinking skills, physical exercise, play leadership and sports. Participating youth will earn RACE points by participating in Drop-In activities. Youth will have the opportunity to WIN great prizes with RACE points earned at the end of the Great R.A.C.E. The Emergency Food Assistance Program provides grocery bags of food to low-income families and individuals based on income guidelines defined by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodities dept. This Neighborhood Program distributes food to hundreds of people twice a month at the Breadbox Recreation Center. Distributions take place in the parking lot for 1 full hour on each occasion. This program is open to everyone. No documentation or ID is required to receive food assistance. Date (s): 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month Time (s): 11:00am - 12:00pm Location: The Bread Box Rec. Breadbox Teen Lounge is both a relaxed and high-energy drop in lounge where young people between the ages of 12 and 18, are offered a variety of activities that include: free Wi-Fi, sports, foosball, air hockey, table tennis, socialization, amplified music, field trips, computer lab and video games. Or if you re looking for relaxation, there s also a movie area with a 55 LCD HDTV and some of the latest new releases. It also offers a great place for Health & Life Skills discussions, positive peer building and character enhancing programs. Meals are also provided free of charge. 5 El Dorado Park Recreation Center 1655 El Dorado Dr. Phone: (831) or (831) El Dorado Park is available for general public use and offers a wide variety of classes, multi-purpose room, a stage and place for clubs and classes to meet. Parks and Recreation staff members are dedicated to courteous, respectful service to enhance the quality of life for community residents, workers and visitors. El Dorado Park is open to the public seven days a week. The Park is located on 12.5 acres and includes a recreation building, large turf area, playground apparatus, basketball court, picnic areas and restrooms. It also has two different size baseball diamonds for softball and hardball. Extreme Team Martial Arts Academy In this class, the physical training makes use of every part of the body from hands, feet, knees, elbows to fingers and toes; every body part is trained and conditioned. Karate training promotes increased confidence, respect, humility and self-control. At entry level, they learn basic Karate skills which include stances and footwork, safe falling, punching, kicking, blocking, and Kata. As they progress, students partake in special classes dedicated to working on rank requirements, preparing for tournaments, and sparring. Activities provide opportunities for exploration through manipulatives, singing, dramatic play, role-playing, toys, blocks, and games. Participants will enjoy age appropriate curriculum, snacks, field trips, special visitors, and holiday parties. Mariachi Instruction The mission of this class, in part, is to educate and build an identity in the participants through mariachi music. Caminos del Arte offers classes in violin, guitar, trumpet, vihuela, guitarron & voice to students from ages 7 to 18 years of age. In addition, Caminos del Arte encourages its participants to learn how to work as a team, as an added benefit, they also learn about cultural history and the heritage of México and the United States. Likewise, the music instruction provides the youth with a strong sense of accomplishment and increased self-esteem. Must provide own instruments. What does the Commission do? Identify and promote concerns of the youth of Salinas. Makes recommendations to the City Council regarding recreational programs and activities affecting young adults. Learns about the role, services and programs of local government. How do I become a Youth Commissioner? The commission has 28 members who represent the diversity of the Youth Community of Salinas. Term of office commences at the time of appointment. Golf de disco del Parque Natividad El campo de Golf de Disco de el Parque Natividad ofrece la diversión de Golf tradicional pero en un entrono de cruz-condado untilizando discos (como Frisbee) más bien que palos de golf y pelotas. Cada agujero es terminado consiguendo su tiro en una cesta especialmente diseñado. Golf de Disco es gratis para todos y está abierto durante las horas normales del parque.
