1 MUSTANG NEWS MAY 2011 PRINCIPAL S PRESPECTIVE Mustang Families, VISIT THE SCHOOL WEBSITE Parent Survey We want your feedback. A parent survey is offered online at the FWJHS Website. The survey window is open May 6 May 20, A student survey is also offered and that window is open May 2 May 18, Parents are able to come log in at our Pony Lab in E-3 before school in order to complete the survey. Thank you for an AMAZING year. We set out this year to get our families involved in more academic events. As a school we have made strides towards an even better partnership in the future. This year we held 52 events with 1692 family members in attendance compared to last year when 36 academic events were offered and 958 people were in attendance. Next year, we hope for even more involvement AMAZING STAFF This year teachers worked together as a team to make progress towards improving AIMS scores in reading, writing, and math. We will continue the quest next year. Great job, Mr. Miller and Mrs. Gallegos, organizing the testing week. We were able to have 99.75% of our students finished the test! The Mustang Team is proud to congratulate Mrs. Julie Stapleton, Flowing Wells Junior High School Teacher of the Year representative. Mrs. Stapleton teaches science and sponsors the MESA Club. Eighth grade parents must pay particular attention to the date of the 8th Grade Promotion Dance Friday, May 13th. The hours of the dance are 5:30-8:00pm. We are firm in our expectation that students and parents not treat this like a high school prom no risqué clothing, no limousines. Mr. Ruiz, Student Council sponsor, has written an article for this newsletter detailing the expectations for this 8th grade dance that each parent and student should read. May are early release days for the junior high. Students will complete their final exams during class these days. The last day of school is Thursday, May 19. Students must have all textbooks and uniforms turned in before the last day of school. Also, all class fees and cafeteria balances must be paid before the last day of school. Students will not be issued a Certificate of Promotion if they have any outstanding fees or materials owed. 8th graders will not be permitted to register for high school without this Certificate and 7th graders will have the over-due amount carried over to next year. The best thing to do is to take care of it all before May 19 th. Report cards will be mailed home on Monday, May 23, Please check your child s report card. Any student receiving an F on a semester grade will be required to attend summer school. Summer Registration Returning 8th graders and incoming 7th graders, on July 19th, 20th, and 21st we will have open registration. So plan accordingly. Packets will be mailed home the week of July 5th. La encuesta está disponible de mayo 6 a mayo 20, Asimismo se ofrece un encuesta para los estudiantes de mayo 2 a mayo 18, Padres y tutores pueden venir a la Junior High y conectarse en el salón de computadores E-3 antes que las clases empiecen para llenar su encuesta. Gracias por un año MARAVILLOSO. Empezamos el año tratando de obtener que nuestras familias se envolvieran en nuestros eventos académicos. Como una escuela hemos dado pasos hacia una cooperación eficaz hacia un futuro mejor. Este año llevamos a cabo 52 eventos con 1692 miembros de familia en asistencia. Comparado al año pasado donde solamente hubo 36 eventos académicos que fueron ofrecidos y 958 solamente asistieron. El año que viene, esperamos tener una mayor participación. PERSONAL MARAVILLOSO- Este año los maestros(as) se juntaron como un equipo para hacer un progreso hacia la mejoría de resultados de las pruebas AIMS en Lectura, Escritura, y Matemáticas. Continuaremos con la búsqueda el año que viene. Magnificó trabajo Mr. Miller y Mrs. Gallegos, por organizar las pruebas esa semana. Pudimos tener un 99.75% de estudiantes terminar el examen! El Equipo Mustang- se enorgullece en felicitar la Sra. Stapleton, por haber sido seleccionada como la Maestra del Año , representara a la Escuela Flowing Wells Junior High. La Sra. Stapleton ensaña ciencias y patrocina el club MESA. Padres que tienen estudiantes en el octavo grado presten especial atención a esta fecha Baile de Promoción del grado 8th el Viernes, 13 de Mayo. Las horas del baile serán de 5:30-8:00pm. Estamos firmes en nuestra expectativa en que los estudiantes y los padres no traten este baile como el prom (baile de gala) nada de ropa atrevida, ni limosinas. El Sr. Ruiz, patrocinador del Consejo Estudiantil, ha escrito un artículo para el boletín detallando las expectativas para el baile del grado 8 que cada padres y estudiantes deben leer. El de Mayo serán los días que estudiantes saldrán temprano de clases de la junior high. Todo estudiantes terminaran sus exámenes finales durante estos días. El último día de clases será el, 19 de Mayo. Los estudiantes deberán tener todos sus libros y uniformes de la escuela entregados antes del último día de escuela. También cobros de clases y balances de la cafetería deberán ser pagados antes del último día de clases. Los estudiantes no recibirán un Certificado de Promoción si tienen alguna deuda, o materiales que deba pagar. Estudiantes del grado 8 no se les permitirá a registrarse para la high school sin este certificado, y los estudiantes del grado 7 que tienen deudas, serán pasadas al próximo año. Lo mejor que puede hacer es encargarse de estas deudas antes del 19 de Mayo. Las boletas serán enviados por correo el lunes mayo 23, Por favor revise la boleta de su estudiante, cualquiera que reciba una F por la calificación del semestre va a requerir que asista a escuela de verano. Inscripciones de Verano Estudiantes del grado 8 que regresan y estudiantes del grado 7 que vienen entrando, el 19, 20, y 21 de Julio tendremos registración abierta. Vaya planeado estas fechas. Los paquetes de inscripciones serán enviados a casa la semana del 5 de Julio. SES is essentially tutoring to provide additional support in mastering the Arizona Academic Standards. There are several tutoring agencies that are willing to provide these services. We would like to extend this offer and invite students to participate in SES throughout the month of June. The dance will run from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. All students will need to be picked up by 8:15pm. Absolutely NO LIMOUSINES will be allowed and boys are discouraged from renting/buying tuxedos. Dress code will be slightly modified for this dance, though, as spaghetti straps will be allowed for girls, but NO STRAPLESS DRESSES will be permitted. If you have any questions about the dress code, please ask before the dance. No students may leave early or be absent on that day and still attend the dance. This dance is a celebration of your hard work and two years at the junior high and we encourage all 8th grade students to attend. All FWJH 8th graders will be admitted free of charge, but all other guests will need to be pre-approved by school administration and will need to pay a $10 fee. Absolutely NO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS will be allowed. Any misbehavior at the dance may put your grade promotion in danger. Again, this dance is a celebration of your two years at the junior high. Our team walked the 3 mile, 5K non-competitive race on Sunday, April 10 th at Reid Park for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. With our donations from the BE FWJH Bracelet Fundraiser we supported a great cause. The student participants included: Nikki Bailey, Amanda Davis, Joe Fox, Stacy Heyer, Carley Kaiser, Jasmyne Laguna. 7 SPECIAL OLYMPICS Congratulations to the Junior High Special Olympics athletes who participated in the 2011 Special Olympics Pima County Track and Field Tournament! Competition took place on Saturday, April 2 nd and was held at Sunnyside High School. Our Mustangs proudly represented Flowing Wells by displaying superb sportsmanship skills and bringing home plenty of medals and ribbons! The team wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to all parents, teachers and administrators who attended. Your generous support helps to make nothing impossible! Congratulations, athletes! This very educational trip is taken in January of your student s 8 th grade year so now is the time to register in order to save his/her place. When you register early you can set up a payment plan and use ARIZONA TAX CREDITS TO HELP PAY FOR YOUR STUDENT S TRIP.
