2 PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that you have one other person to help you install your sidelight. To provide for the all weather performance of your sidelight, please read and follow the instructions carefully. Please handle your sidelight with care as to avoid damage and/or scratches. If your sidelight has protective tape, do not remove it until instructed to do so. Please double check that you have all of your parts before you discard your carton. The fasteners required for each step are illustrated for your convenience. All illustrations are shown as a left side installation. If you are installing a sidelight storm window and storm door, read the instructions and install the storm door first. MEASURE THE OPENING: Facing the house from the outside, measure the height as shown. Measure from the top of the door sill, even with the brickmold, to the underside of the top brickmold. Write down the height measurement below. Next, measure the width from the edge of the two side brickmolds at the top and bottom of the opening. If the width varies at the top or bottom, use the smallest measurement to determine the opening width. Write down the smallest width measurement below. It may be necessary to add a piece of wood as a mounting surface between the door and sidelight openings. The wood piece needs to be thick enough to provide a flat, uniform mounting surface, in conjunction with the existing trim board or brick mold. It also should be no less than 1 3/4" (4.4 cm) wide in order to provide mounting space for both the door and sidelight. Be careful that this piece of wood does not reduce the opening sizes to less than what is shown on the opening size chart. Height measurement: Width measurement: Compare the width measurement to the sidelight opening size chart. If the opening does not fall within any of these limits or is not from 80" (203.2 cm) to 80 7/8" (205.5 cm) in height, it will be necessary to rework the opening. You may wish to consult a professional carpenter. 1. CUT L-BAR TO LENGTH: Pre-installation information RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. SIDELIGHT OPENING SIZE CHART If your sidelight opening dimensions do not fall within these ranges, other adjustments and reworks will be needed to provide a good fit. Using the width measurement from Step 1, mark the L-bar taking an equal amount off each end then cut to length. 1

3 2. INSTALL L-BAR: A. Place the L-bar, long leg up, at the bottom of the opening with the short leg mounting holes to the inside. NOTE: FOR MOST APPLICATIONS THE SHORT LEG OF THE L-BAR SHOULD BE MOUNTED ON THE SILL, BUT IN SOME CASES IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO REVERSE IT. The L-bar should line up with the outside surface of the side trim boards. B. Mark the two (2) holes with a pencil and then drill 1/8" pilot holes. Use #8 x 1/2" screws to mount the L-bar. DO NOT COMPLETELY TIGHTEN SCREWS AT THIS TIME. 3. POSITION SIDELIGHT: A. While holding the sidelight into position in the opening, check the fit at the bottom of the sidelight. NOTE: SIDELIGHT CAN BE MOUNTED WITH EITHER END UP. In most cases the sidelight should be pushed to the top of the opening and touching the Z-bar of your storm door. It may be necessary to move the sidelight down in order to give the proper seal on the bottom L-bar. If the vertical L-bar leg interferes with the sidelight it can be reversed, with the long leg on the sill and the short leg up (see Step 1). B. When the proper position for the sidelight has been determined, mark the mounting holes with a pencil and remove the sidelight from the opening. C. Finish tightening the L-bar screws. 4. INSTALL THREADED INSERTS: A. Drill 1/8" pilot holes, approximately 1/2" (1.3 cm) deep, at each of the marked locations. Being careful not to split the wood, enlarge the holes with a 9/32" drill bit. B. Use a hammer to carefully tap the inserts into the holes until they are flush with the mounting surface. 5. INSTALL FOAM INSULATION: A. Lay the sidelight face down, taking care not to scratch the surface. Begin unrolling the foam insulation by placing the end at one corner of the sidelight. Press insulation in place along entire perimeter of the sidelight keeping it approximately 1/8" from the outer edge. B. Once the foam insulation is in place, remove the paper backing. The foam insulation will cover the mounting holes so use a 1/8" drill bit to open them for the mounting screws. Push the #10 x 1/2" machine screws through the foam prior to mounting the sidelight. 2

4 6. INSTALL SIDELIGHT: Hold the sidelight up to opening and align mounting screws with the threaded inserts on the trim board. Starting at the top, loosely engage the mounting screws into the threaded inserts. After all screws are started, tighten them enough to compress the foam without deforming the sidelight frame. NOTE: Remove the protective tape from the sidelight if applicable. To remove the sidelight for cleaning, simply remove the mounting screws REGULAR MAINTENANCE: WINDOW GLASS The glass may be cleaned with any household glass cleaner. Keep glass cleaners away from painted parts and brass components; ammonia based cleaners will tarnish brass. PLASTIC PARTS Plastic door components may be cleaned in the following manner: Use a mild soap and water mixture and gently rub the affected area. Do not use harsh abrasives or any product that contains chlorine. ALUMINUM PARTS Aluminum parts on the door may be cleaned in the following manner: Use a mild soap and water mixture and gently rub the affected area. Mineral spirits may be used and will not harm the paint. This will remove many items such as glue residue. BRASS COMPONENTS The brass hardware on all doors may be cleaned in the following manner: The brass handles and components (except caming on windows) are coated with a clear urethane finish which protects the brass from tarnishing. In order to clean the brass, this coating will have to be removed. Upon doing this, a larger area of brass will be exposed and subject to weathering. Use a high quality brass polish according to the specific directions on that product. A clear urethane may be reapplied to the clean surface to protect the finish. NOTE: Keep all products that contain chlorine away from brass components. BRASS FINISHED SWEEPS The brass finished sweep may be cleaned with a mild solution of soap and water. 3

5 Sidelight Storm Windows Limited Warranty EMCO Specialties, Inc., warrants that under normal use the Sidelight Storm Windows frame will not crack, split, rot or rust for as long as the original consumer purchaser owns the home in which the Sidelight was initially installed. In addition, painted finish are warranted to the original consumer purchaser, under normal use, to be free of manufacturing defects for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Glass is excluded from this warranty coverage. During the warranty period, and upon written proof of purchase, a defective sidelight or sidelight components will be repaired or replaced at our option, without charge. The warranty will not apply if the sidelight has been misused, abused or altered. Labor is not included in EMCO s limited warranty. For consumer assistance, call THIS WARRANTY EXCLUDES ALL INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental and consequential damage, so the above may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Para permitir el óptimo rendimiento aislante de la luz lateral, sírvase leer y seguir cuidadosamente las siguientes instrucciones. Por favor maneje con cuidado la luz lateral para evitar dañarla y/o rasparla. Si la luz lateral tiene cinta protectora, no se la quite sino hasta que se le indique hacerlo. Por favor verifique que tiene todas las piezas antes de tirar la caja. Para su conveniencia ilustramos todos los sujetadores que se requieren en cada paso. Todas las ilustraciones que se muestran son para instalaciones del lado izquierdo. Si va a instalar una ventana contra intemperie con luz lateral y una puerta contra intemperie, primero lea las instrucciones e instale la puerta contra intemperie MIDA LA ENTRADA: En el exterior, y de frente hacia la casa, mida la altura como se muestra. Mida desde la parte superior del umbral de la puerta, a nivel de la moldura entre el marco y la albañilería, hasta el borde inferior de la moldura superior. Escriba abajo la medida de la altura. Anchura: Altura: A continuación, mida la anchura desde el borde de las dos molduras laterales, en la parte superior y en la parte inferior de la abertura. Si la anchura varía en alguno de estos puntos, utilice la medida más pequeña para determinar la anchura de la abertura. Escriba abajo la medida más pequeña de la anchura. Es posible que sea necesario añadir una pieza de madera que sirva como superficie de montaje entre las aberturas de la puerta y de la luz lateral. La pieza de madera necesita tener el espesor suficiente para proporcionar una superficie de montaje plana y uniforme, junto con la tabla de la moldura o la moldura de ladrillo existente. Además, no debe tener una anchura menor que 1 3/4" (4.4 cm) a fin de obtener suficiente espacio de montaje tanto para la puerta como para la luz lateral. Tenga cuidado que esta pieza de madera no reduzca los tamaños de abertura hasta una dimensión menor que la que se muestra en la tabla de tamaños de abertura. Compare la medida de la anchura con la tabla de tamaños de abertura de la luz lateral. Si la abertura no se encuentra entre estos límites, o no tiene una altura de 80" (203.2 cm) a 80 7/8" (205.5 cm), va a ser necesario que modifique la abertura. Considere consultar a un carpintero profesional. 1. CORTE EL PERFIL EN L A LA LONGITUD ADECUADA: A. Usando la anchura del paso 1, maque el perfil en L y corte un tramo de igual longitud en cada extremo del perfil. 5

7 2. INSTALE EL PERFIL EN L: A. Coloque el perfil en L, con la pata larga hacia arriba, en la parte inferior de la abertura, colocando los orificios de montaje de la pata corta en el interior. NOTA: EN LA MAYORÍA DE LAS APLICACIONES LA PATA CORTA DEL PERFIL EN L SE DEBE MONTAR EN EL UMBRAL, PERO EN ALGUNOS CASOS ES POSIBLE QUE SEA NECESARIO INVERTIRLA. El perfil en L debe quedar alineado con la superficie externa de las tablas de la moldura lateral. B. Marque dos (2) orificios con un lápiz y luego haga dos orificios piloto de 1/8". Utilice los tornillos #8 x 1/2" para montar el perfil en L. EN ESTE MOMENTO NO APRIETE COMPLETAMENTE LOS TORNILLOS. 3. COLOQUE LA LUZ LATERAL: A. Mientras sujeta la luz lateral en su posición en la abertura, revise el ajuste en la parte inferior de la luz lateral. NOTA: LA LUZ LATERAL PUEDE MONTARSE CON CUALQUIERA DE LOS EXTREMOS HACIA ARRIBA. En la mayoría de los casos la luz lateral se debe empujar hacia la parte superior de la abertura hasta que toque el perfil en Z de su puerta contra intemperie. Es posible que sea necesario bajar la luz lateral para obtener el sello adecuado en el perfil en L inferior. Si la pata vertical del perfil en L interfiere con la luz lateral, se puede invertir, colocando la pata larga en el umbral y la pata corta hacia arriba (vea el paso 1). B. Cuando se haya determinado la posición adecuada de la luz lateral, marque los orificios de montaje con un lápiz y quite la luz lateral de la abertura. C. Termine de apretar los tornillos del perfil en L. 4. INSTALE LOS INSERTOS ROSCADOS: A. Haga orificios piloto de 1/8", con una profundidad aproximada de 1/2" (1.3 cm), en cada uno de los puntos marcados. Con cuidado para no dividir la madera, haga los orificios más grandes con una broca de 9/32" para taladro. B. Golpee suavemente con un martillo para introducir los insertos en los orificios hasta que queden al ras de la superficie de montaje. 5. INSTALE EL AISLAMIENTO DE ESPUMA: A. Coloque la luz lateral con el frente hacia abajo, con cuidado para no raspar la superficie. Comience a desenrollar el aislamiento de espuma colocando el extremo en una esquina de la luz lateral. Presione el aislamiento a lo largo de todo el perímetro de la luz lateral, manteniéndolo a una distancia aproximada de 1/8" del borde externo. B. Cuando termine de colocar el aislamiento, quítele el forro de papel. El aislamiento de espuma cubrirá los orificios de montaje, de manera que debe usar una broca de 1/8" para abrirlos a fin de colocar los tornillos de montaje. Coloque tornillos para metal #10 x 1/2" a través de la espuma antes de montar la luz lateral. 6. INSTALE LA LUZ LATERAL: Sujete la luz lateral en la abertura y alinee los tornillos de montaje con los insertos roscados en la tabla de la moldura. Comenzando en la parte superior, coloque holgadamente los tornillos de montaje en los insertos roscados. Después de haber introducido parcialmente los tornillos apriételos lo suficiente para comprimir la espuma sin deformar el marco de la luz lateral. Nota: Quite la cinta protectora de la luz lateral, si es pertinente. Si desea desmontar la luz lateral para limpiarla, sencillamente quite los tornillos de montaje. MANTENIMIENTO REGULAR: VIDRIO DE LA VENTANA: El vidrio se puede limpiar con cualquier limpiador doméstico de vidrios. Mantenga los limpiadores de vidrios alejados de las piezas pintadas y los componentes de latón. Los limpiadores a base de amonia mancharán el latón. PIEZAS DE PLÁSTICO: Los componentes de plástico de la puerta se pueden limpiar de la siguiente manera: Use una mezcla suave de jabón y agua y frote suavemente el área afectada. No use abrasivos agresivos ni ningún producto que contenga cloro. PIEZAS DE ALUMINIO: Las piezas de aluminio de la puerta se pueden limpiar de la siguiente manera: Use una solución suave de jabón y agua y frote suavemente el área afectada. El alcohol mineral no dañará la pintura y removerá residuos, como el de pegamento. COMPONENTES DE LATÓN: El herraje de latón de todas las puertas se puede limpiar de la siguiente manera: Las manijas y los componentes de latón (excepto el acabado en las ventanas) están recubiertos con una capa de uretano transparente que protege el latón contra las manchas. Para limpiar el latón se tiene que quitar esta capa. Al hacerlo se expondrá una mayor área del latón y quedará sujeta a la intemperie. Use un pulidor de latón de alta calidad de acuerdo con las instrucciones específicas de dicho producto. Se puede aplicar uretano transparente a la superficie limpia para proteger el acabado. NOTA: Mantenga todos los productos que contengan cloro alejados de los componentes de latón. CORTABRISAS CON ACABADO DE LATÓN: El cortabrisas con acabado de latón se puede limpiar con una solución suave de jabón y agua. 6
