1 S 4 ALBERT EMBANKMENT LONDRES SE1 7SR Teléfono: +44(0) Facsímil: +44(0) Circular Nº septiembre 2012 A: Todos los Miembros de la OMI Naciones Unidas y organismos especializados Organizaciones intergubernamentales Organizaciones no gubernamentales reconocidas como entidades consultivas Asunto: Conferencia internacional sobre la seguridad de los buques pesqueros Ciudad del Cabo (Sudáfrica), 9 a 11 de octubre de Con referencia a las notas verbales T4/1.05(NV.2) y T4/1.05(NV.2A), el Secretario General de la Organización Marítima Internacional tiene el honor de reiterar su invitación a las partes interesadas a que envíen representantes a la Conferencia internacional sobre la seguridad de los buques pesqueros, que se celebrará en el Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Convention Square, 1 Lower Long Street, Ciudad del Cabo (Sudáfrica), del martes 9 de octubre al jueves 11 de octubre de La Conferencia se ha convocado para examinar y adoptar un Acuerdo sobre la implantación del Protocolo de Torremolinos de 1993 relativo al Convenio internacional de Torremolinos para la seguridad de los buques pesqueros, 1977, que fue aprobado por el Comité de Seguridad Marítima en su 89º periodo de sesiones. 3 En el documento SFV-P/CONF.1/INF.2 figura información para los delegados, incluidos los requisitos pertinentes a los poderes y la inscripción. Se adjunta una copia del citado documento a la presente circular a fin de facilitar su consulta. 4 El Secretario General de la Organización Marítima Internacional está deseando dar la bienvenida a participantes en la Conferencia. ***

3 E INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE SAFETY OF FISHING VESSELS SFV-P/CONF.1/INF.2 8 August 2012 ENGLISH ONLY DIPLOMATIC CONFERENCE TO CONSIDER AND ADOPT AN AGREEMENT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TORREMOLINOS PROTOCOL OF 1993 RELATING TO THE 1977 TORREMOLINOS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE SAFETY OF FISHING VESSELS Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) 9 to 11 October 2012 Information for delegates The IMO Diplomatic Conference to consider and adopt an Agreement on the Implementation of the Torremolinos Protocol of 1993 relating to the 1977 Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 9 to 11 October 2012 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Address: Website: Convention Square, 1 Lower Long St ( For more information on the venue, it is suggested to visit the Conference website at ( Conference facilities The Opening Ceremony and meetings of Heads of Delegation, Plenary, Committee of the Whole and Drafting Committee will be held in the main meeting hall which is situated on the first floor. The room is fully equipped with interpretation facilities for the six official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish). The provisional programme for the first day (9 October 2012) is as follows: 9 a.m. to 9.45 a.m. Heads of Delegation Meeting 10 a.m. to 12 noon Opening Ceremony and inaugural session of the Plenary 12 noon to 2.30 p.m. Lunch break 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Committee of the Whole, with tea/coffee break from 4 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. From the second day the Conference working hours will be as follows: 9.30 a.m. to p.m., with tea/coffee break from 11 a.m. to a.m p.m. to 5.30 p.m., with tea/coffee break from 4 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. There will be no interpretation in the afternoon of Thursday, 11 October 2012.

Additional meeting rooms will be available for working groups and the Credentials Committee and specific details will be announced during the Conference. Credentials, registration and security of delegates In addition to the requirements for credentials, which are detailed in Note Verbale T4/1.05 (NV.1), for the purposes of Registration and Security, Member Governments, IGOs and NGOs are required to transmit a letter of credentials/list of their representatives prior to the Conference, so that their particulars may be entered into the list of participants' database, via the Online Meeting Registration System (OMRS), as advised in Circular letter No The credentials/list of representatives, which serves as authorization for representatives to attend the Conference, must be on official letter-headed paper, signed by the officer responsible of the Government or organization concerned. It is imperative that the information thus requested is forwarded to IMO well in advance of the opening of the Conference and every effort to provide it in good time will be greatly appreciated. Any issues related to the use of the OMRS should be communicated to: Registration Unit Conference Section registration@imo.org Delegates whose names appear in the credentials/list of representatives will be issued with a requisite pass for entry to the Conference. However, delegates whose names are not on the list of participants will be requested to provide evidence of their authorization to attend the Conference. No delegate will be registered without evidence of his/her authorization to attend the meeting. All delegates will be required to show photographic proof of their identity, e.g. passport or identity card. Registration will take place at the Registration Counters, at the right-hand side of the main entrance on the ground floor and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, 8 October 2012 and from 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday, 9 October On the first day of the Conference early registration would be advisable to avoid delays. The Host Government has made arrangements for the security of the conference area and, upon registration, each delegate will receive an identification badge. Delegates must wear their identification badges at all times during the Conference period. For security purposes, admission to the meeting rooms and offices allocated to the IMO Secretariat will be limited to those wearing identification badges. Documents services The distribution point for Conference documents will be the Documents Desk located at the back of the Registration area by the main entrance and pigeonholes will be located near the Registration Counters. To avoid bottlenecks at the Documents Desk, delegations may wish to identify one member of each delegation to collect and circulate papers to the other members of the delegation. All documents will be issued in English, French and Spanish, unless designated as English only. A second set of self-service pigeonholes will be provided near the entrance of the main meeting room on the first floor.
5 SFV-P/CONF.1/INF.2 Page 3 Procedure for visa applications With a view to facilitating visa applications by those delegates who require South African entry visas, information is provided on the Conference website ( in the section entitled "Immigration and Health Requirements". Facilities/Business Centre Internet and other related equipment facilities will be available in a dedicated area. Hotels A number of hotels of different categories and rates are available in the vicinity of the CTICC and further detailed information is available on the Conference website ( in the section entitled "Accommodation". When booking accommodation at the recommended hotels, delegates should quote code: IMO2012. Transport of delegates Delegates should note that further useful information is available on the Conference website ( in the section entitled "Transport" and appendix 1 provides a form to be completed by delegates requiring transport assistance. The Host Government will provide an information desk specifically for IMO delegates at the airport to assist them, if necessary. The Host Government has negotiated special rates with their national carrier, South African Airlines. Delegates wishing to avail themselves of these rates should quote the following code: IMO2012. Social activities Details of the social activities organized during the Conference are also available on the Conference website.
