5 St. Joseph Church....Palm Sunday.....April 5, 2009 Pastor s Column The column this week is greatly shortened because of the Holy Week schedule. I invite all to look at the final page of the bulletin to see the parish financial situation. Although collections have been on par, other financing has not been coming through, meaning that we are no longer able to pay all of our bills. For next fiscal year, the situation is even more serious. Already, we have indicated to St. Joseph School that the parish s contribution will be reduced by 12%. Two full-time staff positions are being cut by no later than June 30 th. When I mention other financing, the biggest loss we have incurred is grants. We had been depending on grants for two staff positions. When the stock market tanked, the return on investments declined, meaning that many organizations had less money to dole out as grants. Hence, we are now hurting. And now, for the Holy Week Schedule: April 5 Palm Sunday Reconciliation Service at Holy Spirit at 6pm April 7 (Tuesday) 10:30am Chrism Mass in Owensboro April 9 Holy Thursday Day One of the Paschal Triduum 5pm Mass of the Lord s Supper (English) When Christ gathered his disciples for the Passover Meal before he was to die, he instituted the Eucharist, so that we might ever know his sacrifice for us and his presence among us. At the same time, he taught them through the washing of feet that the importance of service among his apostles. April 10 Good Friday Day Two of the Paschal Triduum 12noon Bowling Green Ecumenical Community Service at Holy Spirit 2pm The Lord s Passion (English) Christ takes up his Cross and dies for us. Please note that NO SACRAMENTS (including Confession) may not be celebrated after 3pm on Good Friday until the Easter Vigil. April 7 Holy Saturday Day Three of the Paschal Triduum 8pm The Easter Vigil (Bilingual) The Easter Vigil, during the holy night when Christ rose from the dead, ranks as the mother of all vigils. Keeping watch, the Church awaits Christ s resurrection and celebrates it in the Sacraments. April 8 - EASTER SUNDAY 8am & 10:30am Mass of the Resurrection Have a blessed week. 5

I attended college at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island; I double majored in English Literature and Elementary Education. In my spare time I enjoy sailing, skiing, backpacking and rock climbing. I enjoy my time here at St. Joseph School and I am blessed to be able to teach children about the Catholic faith and the love of God. Readings for the Week April 6 April 12 Mon.
