Goals and Objectives Principal's Highlights Valley High School, established in 1965, continues to be a premier academic institution in Southern Nevada. The Viking family embodies a respect for our proud tradition of excellence. The Class of 2011 earned $7.9 million in scholarship dollars with Goal 1 Students in the class of 2012 will demonstrate an increase of 10% in the graduation rate as measured by the CCSD annual Accountability Report. Objective(s): students now attending colleges such as Duke, Embry-Riddle, USC, and Notre Dame. In our 32nd year of having an IB program, there were 56 diploma candidates and over 300 students enrolled, grades 9-12, in this college prep program. The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism boasted a 99% graduation rate, with 83% of students continuing their education at a 2 or 4 year college. Team Action partnered juniors and seniors with 100+ businesses to Identify, monitor and mentor the credit deficient students and non-proficient students at each grade level. Goal 2 Students will demonstrate a 10% increase in achievement in core academics, reducing the achievement gap among subgroups as measured by the NHSPE. Objective(s): Utilize professional development days for staff training in PLC best practices. Develop more Tier 2, 3, and 4 DOK activities for increased rigor. provide students with an internship incorporated in their high school experience. Valley Forensicators received the Outstanding National Forensics League Chapter award. Only 126 chapters received the award for growth and excellence. The Valley football team was named Nevada State Academic champion, having earned the highest combined GPA of all 4A schools in Nevada. The Valley Army JROTC scored in the 98th percentile and was awarded an Honor Unit with Distinction. Two Valley thespians earned superior ratings, qualifying them for the national tournament. All fall sports qualified for the NIAA Sunrise playoffs. Page 1 of 8

Bi-monthly newsletters were mailed to parents to communicate school news, student achievement and recognition and upcoming activities. Our athletics program incorporated an all-sports banquet at the conclusion of each season. An advisory board of distinguished business executives guided the Hospitality & Tourism Magnet program. The school website provided important information to parents pertaining to upcoming events, awards or announcements. Grades were uploaded weekly to ParentLink providing parents and students with current academic progress and attendance information. In addition, ParentLink phone and messages were sent to families to provide immediate information concerning important school events. School administration collaborated weekly with Las Vegas Metro Police officers in order to ensure a safe learning environment.
