2 The World Competitiveness Yearbook 2008 Ránking Mundial de Competitividad 2008 CENTRUM Católica, la escuela de negocios N 1 del Perú y N 1 en Liderazgo en América Latina (América Economía, 2007) en asociación con el IMD, la escuela de negocios N 1 de Europa (Forbes, 2007), se complace en presentar los resultados del Ranking Mundial de Competitividad El ranking es considerado como el más serio y exhaustivo reporte de competitividad de países y es desarrollado desde 1989 combinando cuatro factores de competitividad: Desempeño Económico, Eficiencia del Gobierno, Eficiencia de los Negocios e Infraestructura. Para esta edición el Perú aparece por primera vez con un puesto expectante, situación que constituye un importante reto para el sector público y privado. Hoy, le debemos al buen desempeño económico nuestra posición como país competitivo, sin embargo queda mucho trabajo por hacer, especialmente en infraestructura, la eficiencia del gobierno y de los negocios. CENTRUM Católica, the No. 1 business school in Peru and No. 1 in Latin America in the academic area of leadership (América Economía, 2007), in a partnership with IMD, the No. 1 business school in Europe (Forbes, 2007), are proud to present the results of the 2008 World Competitiveness Ranking. This ranking is considered to be the most serious and exhaustive report on country competitiveness, and has been conducted since 1989, using a combination of four factors of competitiveness: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure. In this edition, for the first time Peru in a position that raises high expectations for the future, thus representing an important challenge for both the public and private sectors. Today, we owe our position as a competitive country to favorable economic performance, but much work remains to be done, especially in infrastructure and in the efficiency of government and business. 3 The World Competitiveness Yearbook 2008 Ránking Mundial de Competitividad 2008 En 2008, EE.UU. lideró el ranking de competitividad, seguido de Singapur y Hong Kong, quienes mantuvieron sus posiciones respecto al año precedente. A nivel latinoamericano, el ranking fue liderado por Chile (puesto 26 en el global), seguido de Perú (puesto 35 en el global), superando a países como Colombia (puesto 41), Brasil (puesto 43) y México (puesto 50). Llama la atención la ubicación de Japón, país que tras mostrar una importante dinámica económica, eficientes industrias e innovación continua, pasó de liderar el ranking en 1989 al puesto 22 en La tragedia japonesa evidencia que ninguna nación es inmune a una caída, especialmente cuando ésta proviene del sector financiero. En este contexto, el 2008 podría ser el último año en que EE.UU. mantenga el liderazgo del ránking de competitividad, considerando que Singapur ha reducido la brecha entre ambos países y dentro de un contexto en el cual hay mayores competidores. The position of Japan draws attention.
