Free code access to Visit USA Committee updated travel agents database. The Argentine market grew from the original 82,000 arrivals of Argentines into the U.S. in 1986 to 534,000 in year Then Argentina was ranked among the 10 top countries. However, the serious economic crisis of 2002, the new security measures taken in the U.S. since 9/11/2001 and the cancellation of the Visa Waiver Program, dramatically reduced the previous figures. From 2004 the local market has been recovering with a sharp 25.9% for year Year Passengers % compared to previous year , % , % , % , % Source: ITA/TINET/USDOC/GOV We must add that there is a large number of Argentines who ought to depart from Argentina with their Argentine passport but arrive to the U.S. gateways exhibiting their European passport. Argentina has more that 1.2 million European immigrants, and most of them facilitate to their sons and grandsons the possibility of having another passport. Most of the U.S. carriers linking Argentina with the U.S. estimate a number of 100,000 plus Argentines arriving to the U.S. carrying a European passport. On early March 2008, the Travel Industry Association (TIA) has informed, it praised the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for rapidly moving forward with the expansion of the Visa Waiver Program. Several countries are vying to join the 27 existing member countries, including Argentina, Greece and South Korea. The members of this Committee, believe that with the awarding of the visa waiver, the number of 500,000 Argentine visitors to the U.S. on year 2000 can be easily reached not later than in the first two years of the next decade. In addition to that, Argentine travelers are considered big spenders. Last year, The U.S. Department of Commerce estimated that Argentines spend at least USD 2,000 per person per trip. The number of weekly flights connecting directly Argentina to the U.S. (March 2008) is 67. Cities linked by these direct flights are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, New York and Washington. On July 2007, The Argentine and U.S. Government signed a new agreement, which increases the number of flights between both countries up to 120 before next March TAM, Avianca, LAN Chile, COPA, TACA, Aerosur, Gol, Air Canada, Mexicana, Aero Mexico, and Lan Perú also link both countries, but with one stop. Austral, and Pluna have also requested authorization to FAA for flights to the USA. 4 Visit USA Committee Argentina, Att: Lisandro Gómez Onetto, Marcelo T. de Alvear 767, Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tel + (54 11) , Fax + (54 11) ,

It is a country of extremes and superlatives. The driest desert in the world can be found in the far North and in the center of the country the landscape switches to fertile farmland, beautiful beach resorts on the coast and ski slopes in the mountains. In the South the geography changes once again, turquoise lakes, thick virgin forests, with a backdrop of volcanoes right down to the far South with the thousand year old glaciers and ice fields of Patagonia and the Antarctica. Chile s islands also offer interesting tourist attractions: Easter Island (or Rapa Nui) with its archaeological treasures; Robinson Crusoe Island, well-known for its fauna and vegetation; and Chiloé, famous for its mysticism and unique folklore. The remarkable range of climates and sceneries make Chile an unsurpassed destination for nature lovers. Visitors can choose from mountain climbing, horse riding, skiing, archaeological trips and wildlife observation to swimming and diving white-water rafting, kayaking in rivers and fjord and navigation among ice floes. Santiago, the nation s capital, is a busy and safe metropolis. Surrounded by the Andes Mountains it appears to the world as a modern, entertaining, with outstanding hotels and restaurants and a city full of live. Chile has an open, stable economy that places a premium on trade and investment. Over the past years per capita income increased from US $3,638 in 1994 to US $7,231 in 2005.Chile has successfully brought inflation under control, progressing from 27, 3 percent in 1990 to 2,6 percent in Chile is an internationally-acclaimed producer of fine wines and spirits. Taste, flavour, and centuries of winemaking experience have earned Chilean wines a place of honour among the world s finest. Chile s wine valleys possess just the right mix of soil, sunlight, temperature and humidity conditions to grow grapes yielding world-class wines, year in and year out. Chilean wines are world leaders in terms of volume, sales, and international recognition. 10 Visit USA Committee Chile: Avda. Vitacura 2909 Of. 908, Las Condes, Santiago Phone (56 2) (56 2)

12 Bogotá Colombia Colombia VUSACOL was founded in 1987 and today has over 38 members which have common interests in the US market. These are Airlines, Travel Agencies, Wholesalers, Educational Institutions, Hotels, Global Distribution Systems, Financial Entities, Rent a Car Agencies, etc and has also opened the doors to those who may want to join in order to promote the United States for tourism and or other kind of related business. There are two specialized committees who take care of coordinating, planning and developing events throughout the year that achieve high results for the VUSA Committee Colombia. Also, the Committee supports traditional events such as ANATO in Bogotá. There are few countries that can boast such a variety of natural and cultural resources as Colombia: white, sandy beaches, hills, snowcapped mountains, unending plains, jungle, exotic, and lush vegetation, archeological sites, modern cities and peaceful colonial-style villages which seem to be suspended in time. And then there are, of course, its people, warm and friendly. Normal courtesies should be observed. It is customary to offer guests black Colombian coffee, well sugared, called tinto. The Republic of Colombia was formally established in 1855, four years after the abolition of slavery. 32 departments and 1 capital district; Spanish is the official language; local Indian dialects and some English, French, German and Italian are also spoken. It is situated in South America, bordered to the north by the Caribbean Sea, to the northwest by Panama, to the west by the Pacific Ocean, to the southwest by Ecuador and Peru, to the northeast by Venezuela and to the southeast by Brazil. There are also two small islands, San Andrés and Providencia, located 700 km (430 miles) north of the Colombian coast, that have belonged to Colombia since The Colombian market offers excellent opportunities for promoting travel to the Unites States. During the last 12 years the total number of Colombian travelers to foreign countries showed a market turnaround, increasing from in 1992 to 1.3 million in 1997, 1.4 million in 2002 and 1.7 million in As noted above, during 2004 this market experienced a significant upturn and this upward trend continued during 2005 and is expected to keep on for the next few years. Although, as previously mentioned, the Unites States is the main overseas destination of the Colombian tourists and business travelers. It is important to emphasize the strong competition that other destinations offer, such as Europe, which posses a need for continuous promotion for the U.S. market. 20 Mexico D.F. Mexico Mexico The United States is the most important destination for Mexican travelers. In 2006, 13.4 million Mexicans traveled to the United States, representing over a quarter of the total foreign arrivals to the country. Mexico is the second source of international travelers to the United States just after Canada. Additionally, travel to the U.S. interior grew by 26% to register 5,840,839 arrivals. The solid growth ranked Mexican travel to the U.S. interior larger than the number one overseas visitor market - the United Kingdom (4,176,211 arrivals). OUR BOARD Fernando Olivera Vocal 1 Claudia Chavez Vocal 2 Ana María Espinosa Executive Guadalupe Quiroga MARKET OVERVIEW According to the Office of Travel and Tourism Industries (OTTI) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, more than 51 million international visitors traveled to the United States in 2006, an increase of 4 percent from Once again, Mexico registered an unparalleled growth in tourism arrivals, an increase of 6 percent from Also important, in 2006 spending by Mexican travelers totaled $9.26 billion. In 2005, air travelers spent almost $7.2 billion. This figure shows the economic importance of Mexican air travelers. U.S. travel and tourism companies should consider this in their efforts to prepare marketing strategies and promotional packages to potential Mexican tourists. Mexicans are attracted to the wide range of activities and services that the United States offers to all its visitors, such as: shopping, entertainment, gambling, recreational activities, and cosmopolitan cities. Mexicans travel constantly to the United States in order to visit friends and relatives. Moreover, Mexican tourists can be classified into four categories based on the purpose of their trip: vacation, business, visiting relatives or friends, and attending conventions. Approximately 1.71 million Mexicans traveled to the United States via air in Wholesale operators continue to be the most important distribution channel in the Mexican travel and tourism market. It is crucial to establish and maintain a personal relationship with the travel and tourism companies located in Mexico in order to increase sales. Major travel seasons for Mexicans are the summer months of July and August, Easter and Christmas. The most important competitors for U.S are domestic (Mexican) destinations, due to their facilities and attractions. International competitors include Canada, Europe and, more recently, South American countries such as Argentina, Chile and Brazil, and also Eastern Asian countries. STATISTICAL DATA Mexico continued its prominence of being the second source of international travelers to the United States just after Canada. It is also one of the top markets in terms of spending. In 2006, Mexico ranked fourth in travel receipts with $9.26 billion, and generated more than 8.5 percent of the total travel exports for the United States. This fact means that Mexico is a very lucrative market that is often overlooked by U.S. travel and tourism companies. ABOUT VISIT USA COMMITTEE MEXICO The Visit USA Committee México was established on December 10, 1996 in México City, as a non-profitable association representing both private and public sector interests in the promotion of U.S. tourist destinations and services, to increase the number of Mexican travelers to the United States. VISIT USA-MEXICO COMMITTEE MISSION: Its main objective is to promote and increase leisure and business travel from Mexico to the United States of America. Perform all the necessary activities for the promotion of the United States, as the preferred tourist destination for Mexico. Organize trade shows and exhibitions such as EXPOVACACIONES USA, which in 2008 will celebrate its 31st edition.
