2 PASTORS CORNER All Souls Remembrance With All Souls Day just over one week away (November 2), it is important to understand the scriptural basis for prayers and sacrifices for the dead. 2 nd Maccabees, chapter 12, verses is the earliest Scripture for the Church s teaching on the way that prayer and spiritual sacrifices can aid deceased persons in their journey to eternal life. The author of Maccabees states that it was a holy and pious thought to make atonement for the sins of the soldiers who died fighting for a just cause. Your prayers and spiritual sacrifices are very beneficial for your loved ones who have passed on. Of all the gifts that one could give to a deceased person, the Mass would be one of the best. Please use the All Souls envelopes at each door of the Church or in your Sunday envelope package to write the names of loved ones that you would like remembered. These names will be remembered at every mass by the priests of St. Anthony s through-out the month of November. Faithfully, Fr. Your departed loved ones names will be placed on the church altar and be prayed for by our priests during Masses throughout the month of November. Please return your envelopes by November 2nd. 3 SU PALABRA EN ESPAÑOL Recordando Nuestros Difuntos Con el día de los muertos que se aproxima el 2 de Noviembre, es importante entender la base escritural para las oraciones y sacrificios que hacemos para los muertos. 2 Macabeos, capitulo 12, versos es la primera escritura donde nos enseña como la oración y sacrificio espiritual puede ayudar a los muertos en el camino hacia la vida eternal. El autor de Macabeos dice que fue un pensamiento santo y de piedad para hacer expiación por los pecados de los soldados que murieron peleando por una causa justa. Sus oraciones y sacrificios espirituales son muy beneficiosos para sus seres queridos que han fallecido. De todos los regales que uno puede darle a un familiar muerto, la Misa seria uno de los mejores. Por favor use los sobres para los muertos que están en cada entrada de la Iglesia para escribir el nombre de sus seres difuntos. Volunteers Needed St. Vincent de Paul Society is seeking volunteers to help with our food bank and clothes closet. We are open Monday through Friday from 1pm to 3:45pm. Our duties are to assist clients in need of food and clothing and to prepare food bags and keep clothing closet in order. Our schedule for our volunteers is usually one day a week.
