Grammar 1 Question forms Let s move on to look at the first grammar point of this unit: question forms. Why don t we see some examples of questions in different tenses? At the beginning of the video, the narrator asks Gordon a question. Here it comes: [video clip 1] [fragmento 1] Are you having a good day? Estás teniendo un buen día? This is an example of a question in the present continuous. Are funciona como auxiliar y va delante del sujeto you. Este, a su vez, va seguido del verbo principal have, con la terminación -ing. Later, Nikki asks Penny a question. Let s listen again: [video clip 2] [fragmento 2] Have you been out with him? Has salido con él? This is an example of a question in the present perfect. El verbo auxiliar have va delante del sujeto you, y este va seguido del participio del verbo principal: been. Nikki also asks Eric a question: Pasemos ahora al primer punto gramatical de esta unidad: las estructuras de las preguntas. Qué tal si vemos algunos ejemplos de preguntas en distintos tiempos verbales? Al principio del vídeo, el narrador le hace una pregunta a Gordon. Es esta: Are you having a good day? Estás teniendo un buen día? En este ejemplo, tenemos una pregunta en present continuous. Are funciona como auxiliar y va delante del sujeto you. Este, a su vez, va seguido del verbo principal have, con la terminación -ing. Después, Nikki le hace una pregunta a Penny. Vamos a escucharla otra vez: Have you been out with him? Has salido con él? En este ejemplo, tenemos una pregunta en present perfect. El verbo auxiliar have va delante del sujeto you, y este va seguido del participio del verbo principal: been. Nikki también le pregunta algo a Eric: 2 Oxford University Press 2009

3 UNIT 1 Upper-Intermediate [video clip 3] [fragmento 3] What time do you start work? A qué hora entras a trabajar? This is an example of a question in the present simple. El verbo auxiliar do va delante del sujeto you, y este va seguido del verbo principal en infinitivo, start. Why don t you study the grammar now? Move on to the next screen. Encontrarás una explicación más completa de cómo se forman las preguntas y, después, unos ejercicios para practicar. Remember that you can click on the English words in blue to listen to the pronunciation. Luego puedes repetirlas y grabar tu voz tantas veces como quieras. What time do you start work? Nikki también le hace a Eric una pregunta con How. Vamos a verlo de nuevo: How far away do you live? Vives lejos? [video clip 3] [fragmento 3] How often do you see him? Cada cuánto quedas con él? Esta vez, Nikki usa How seguido de often para preguntar por la frecuencia de algo. Nikki usa How seguido de far para preguntar por la distancia a la que está algo. Después, Nikki le hace a Penny otra pregunta con How: How often do you see him? Cada cuánto quedas con él? Esta vez, Nikki usa How seguido de often para preguntar por la frecuencia de algo.
