To show the benefits of these technologies for children and adults with severe communication restrictions. To demonstrate their application in diverse environments, including home and hospital. Speakers: Augmentative Communication Program Boston Children's Hospital, USA John Costello has been a speech-language pathologist specializing in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication at Boston Children s Hospital for 29 years. He is the Director of the Augmentative Communication Program and the founder of an internationally unique dedicated program for Augmentative Communication in the Pediatric Intensive Care Units and Acute Care Settings. He pioneered the model of bedside message banking for patients who will have a temporary loss of speech and has now applied that same concept to adults who motor neuron disease who will experience a permanent loss of natural speech. In addition to being a full-time clinician and director of the outpatient and inpatient AAC Program at the hospital, he teaches graduate level courses in Augmentative Communication at Boston University and MGH Institute of Health Professions. John has lectured widely Internationally on topics of AAC in the hospital setting and AAC for people with motor neuron disease. Prof. Jose L. Pons Head of the Neural Rehabilitation Group, Cajal Institute Spanish National Research Council, Spain

Pons is with CSIC since 1993 and has actively participated in a number of National, European and International RTD projects in the area of Wearable rehabilitation robotics, new actuators and control technologies. In particular, he was co-ordinator of EU GAIT, EU MANUS, EU ESBiRRo projects, EU TREMOR, EU BETTER, EU BioMot, EU NeuroTREMOR, EU H2R and HYPER. He is the editor of Wearable Robotics (John Wiley & Sons, 2008) a seminal publication in the field on robotics exoskeleton in rehabilitation and assistance. He led the establishment of the International Conference on NeuroRehabilitation, ICRN (two editions held so far, Toledo, 2012 and Aalborg, 2014) and the International Workshop on Wearable Robotics (WeRob). Director of ANDITEC - Rehabilitation Technologies, Lisbon, Portugal Luis Azevedo is the director of ANDITEC, a Portuguese company dedicated to Assistive Technology and a researcher (retired) at the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal. A professional engineer, he holds an MSc in Biomedical/Rehabilitation Engineering (University of Dundee, Scotland) and a PhD in Informatics (University of the Basque Country, Spain). He has been working in the field of Assistive Technology (AT) since 1978 involved in national and international research projects, namely European Union (EU) research projects in the area of Assistive Technology. He has been acting as an expert for the EU in the 5th, 6th and 7th Framework Programmes. A founding member of AAATE (Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe), served in the first Board of Directors of this Association, and was the Chair and the responsible for the organization of the Conference AAATE2013 that took place in Portugal, September Former member of the Board of Directors of ISAAC (International Society for Alternative and Augmentative Communication), he was the Conference Chair of ISAAC2014, that took place in Lisbon, Portugal in July His current research interests include the area of Assistive Technology for Complex Communication Needs and the Training of Professionals in AT. Prof. Julio Abascal Head of the Laboratory of Human-Computer Interaction for Special Needs University of the Basque Country, Spain Julio Abascal is the head of Egokituz: Laboratory of HCI for Special Needs [ located at the University of the Basque Country, where he is a Professor of the Department of Computer Architecture and Technology. He holds a B.S.D. in Physics (Universidad de Navarra, 1978) and a Ph. D. in Informatics (Universidad del País Vasco-Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, 1987). His research activity is focused on the application of Human-Computer Interaction methods and techniques to Assistive Technology, including the design of ubiquitous, adaptive and accessible user interfaces. He is the Spanish representative in the IFIP Technical Committee TC13 on "Human-Computer Interaction" since 1991, and the former and founder chairman ( ) of IFIP WG 13.3 "Human-Computer Interaction and Disability". He serves from 1990 as an advisor, reviewer and evaluator for diverse EU research programs (TIDE, TAP, IST, etc.). Prof. Ramón Ceres Spanish National Research Council, Spain Dr. Ceres is Professor of Research at the Bioengineering Group of the Spanish National Council for Science Research (CSIC). He graduated in Physics (electronic) from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1971, receiving the PhD degree in After a first stay for one year in the LAAS-CNRS, in Toulouse (France), he has been working at Industrial Automation Institute of the CSIC, being in this Centre Head of Department and Deputy Director for twelve years. For the period was R&D director and promoter of the start up AUTELEC, company working on the electronic field. From the 90 s he has been developing different functions such as Spanish Delegate in the Regulatory Committee of the R&D BRITE/EURAM Programme of the E.U., General Coordinator of the Innovation Projects IBEROEKA, within the

5 5 / 6 Latin-American Programme CYTED, promoter and president of the Latin-American Association for Assistive Technologies AITADIS and its congress IBERDISCAP, Coordinator of the Bioengineering Group, member of the Steering Committee of the Comité Español de Automática, belonging to the IFAC association. He is author of more than 250 publications (papers and congress presentations), director of nine doctoral thesis, having several patents in industrial exploitation on automation works in the field of the sensors and robotics. In the two last decades he has been centred on the field of research of the Assistive Technologies, particularly in sensors, interfaces and signal processing, leading national and European projects and several networks (INCLUTEC-eVIA, RETADIM, GBIO-CEA). Prof. Jose M. Azorin Head of the Brain-Machine Interface Systems Lab Miguel Hernandez University of Elche, Spain Jose M. Azorin is the Head of the Systems Engineering and Automation Department at Miguel Hernandez University of Elche (Spain). He holds a MSc on Computer Science from the University of Alicante (1997, Spain) and a PhD on Robotics (Award for the Best Thesis of the Department) by the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche (2003, Spain). Dr. Azorin has been active since 1999 in research within several projects on Advanced Robotics. He has been visiting researcher in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London (United Kingdom), at INRIA (National Research Center of Computer Science and Automation) - Sophia Antipolis (France), and at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil). He is author or co-author of a broad range of research publications in journals and conferences. His current research interests are Brain-Machine Interfaces, Neuro-robotics, Assistive Robotics and Rehabilitation Robotics. Actually, he is the main researcher of several projects in these areas. Spanish National Research Council, Spain Rafael Raya, PhD. works in the Group of Neural and Cognitive Engineering of Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Spain). He received the PhD degree in 2011 and a M.S. degree in 2008 from the University of Alcalá (Spain). He received an Electronic and Automatic Engineering degree in 2006 from the University of Córdoba (Spain). He was a postdoc fellow at the Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA) and MOVE Institute (Vrije Amsterdam Universiteit). He is the technical coordinator of the AITADIS (Iberoamerican Association for Assistive Technology). He is author/co-author of more than 40 publications including international journals and conferences and he is reviewer of several international journals. His research activity is focused on assistive devices for people with Cerebral Palsy. Dr. Raya has actively participated in a number of National, European and International RTD projects. The Spanish Committee for Automation has recently awarded him with the Award Best Spanish PhD Thesis in Robotics 2011 and the MIT has awarded him with the TR35 Award (2013).
