2 Information Technology High School 2 Dear Student and Parents, Welcome to the Information Technology High School Technology Major Application process. Our school currently offers four technology majors. The admissions process for the majors offered is highly competitive due to a limited number of seats in each academy. The selection criteria includes Grade Point Average (GPA), NYS Regents Exams results, and student preference. The process is as follows: 1. During the Spring 2011 term, Ms. Gargano, the 9 th grade counselor, will conduct in- class visits to provide an overview of the majors offered at Information T echnology H igh S chool. 2. During the in- class visit students will view a presentation introducing the t echnology m ajors being offered. Upon completion of the presentation, your child received this package that includes a preference ranking form and description of each major being offered. We encourage you to review this information with your child and assist him or her in completing the preference- ranking sheet. 3. Once your child has completed the preference sheet, please return the completed sheet to Ms.Gargano. All preference sheets must be returned to I nformation T echnology H igh S chool no later than Friday, April 15, Once your child s application is received, the a pplication c ommittee will review it and a placement decision will be made. You will be notified in writing as to your child s acceptance into one of the majors of study on or before Friday, May 13, If you wish to appeal your child s placement, you must submit a written request for placement review. This request must include your child s name and OSIS number, major in which your child was admitted, major in which you are requesting admission, and reason for change. 3 Information Technology High School 3 Estimados estudiantes y padres de familia, Bienvenido al proceso aplicación para los programas técnicos de Information Technology High School. En estos momentos nuestra escuela ofrece cuatro academias de tecnología. Debido a un número limitado de asientos en cada academia, el proceso de admisión para estos programas es sumamente competitivo. El criterio de selección incluye el promedio de notas (GPA), los resultados de los exámenes regionales del Estado de Nueva York, y la preferencia de los estudiantes. El proceso es el siguiente: 1. Durante la primavera del 2011, la Sra. Gargano, la consejera de 9 º grado, llevará a cabo visitas en clase para ofrecer una visión general de las academias de tecnología que ofrecemos en nuestra escuela. 2. Le recomendamos que revise esta información con su hijo/a y juntos completen la aplicación. 3. Una vez que su hijo/a haya completado la planilla de preferencia, por favor entregársela a la Sra. Todas las planillas de preferencia deben ser devueltas a Information Technology High School antes del Viernes, 15 de abril del Una vez que la solicitud de su hijo/a sea recibida, será revisada por un comité de selección. Y este grupo ejecutivo tomara la decisión para determinar su puesto. Y la decisión final le será notificada por escrito a más tardar el Viernes, 13 de mayo Si desea apelar la decisión del comité, usted debe presentar una solicitud de apelación por escrito. Esta solicitud debe incluir el nombre de su hijo/a y el número de OSIS, en cual programa fue aceptado, cual es el cambio que prefiere, y la razón por el cambio. Por favor, dirija todas las apelaciones al Sr. Reed, Sub Director de Organizaciones. 4 Information Technology High School 4 High Schools with Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs integrate rigorous academic study with workforce skills in specific career pathways. Students participate in programs that meet business and industry standards. Students receive instruction in an industry- related area and have the opportunity to graduate high school with industry- specific competencies and skills that lead to postsecondary education, further industry training and/or entry into the workforce. Information Technology High S chool currently offers 4 CTE programs. The admissions process for these programs is highly competitive due to limited number of seats in each academy. Legend: F (Fall Term) F- 9 th (9 th grade fall term) S (Spring Term) S- 10 th (10 th grade spring term) The selection criteria include Grade Point Average (GPA), NYS Regents Exams results, and student preference. NOTE: Students are required to pass a certification exam, 40 hours work base learning experience, and plan, submit, and defend an exit project in order to successfully complete these majors. Successful completion of the major may lead to a New York State CTE Diploma Endorsement.
5 Information Technology High School 5 Video Production Academy As video, film, and television production is a collaborative field, students will learn to function as members of an integrated production team on a wide variety of projects. Video Production Academy is a three- year program divided into Elements of V ideo, Digital Video and Video Production. Using state of the art computers and software, students learn the technical art of animation and video production. Elements of Video Basics of video production: understanding the stages of a production (including framing, camera angles and the role of lenses, lighting & sound), storyboarding, shot listing and editing. Students will be introduced to special effects editing. Digital Video The Digital Video curriculum develops knowledge in storytelling, capturing and editing video and audio, and finalizing content for DVD or web through emphasis on design, project management, and video technology. Each project builds on lessons learned previously. Video Production The Video Production curriculum uses a project- based resource for teaching video production skills to students at all levels working with faculty from leading film schools and universities; Adobe has created this resource as a capstone course to enhance real world skills of our students.
6 Information Technology High School 6 Web Design Academy Learn the basics of web page design using HTML and Flash scripting, web programming, page editing software and animation. Explore the various site design models used in personal and commercial web sites. Web Design Academy is a three- year program divided into Visual Design, Digital Design and Web Management. Using state of the art computers and software, students learn the technical art of design for print and web. Visual Design The Visual design curriculum is a project- based course that develops skills in design and print production using Adobe tools. Skills learn in this course can be implemented in the graphic design and printing industry. It develops key digital communication skills such as design, project management, and graphic and print technology. Each project builds on lessons learned previously. Digital Design Digital Design curriculum is a yearlong, project- based curriculum that develops skills in web design and production using Adobe web tools. Skills learn in this course can be implemented in the web design industry. It develops key digital communication skills such as design, project management, and web technology. Each project builds on lessons learned previously. Web Data Management The objective of the course is to study the new data management problems (and solutions) that emerge in the Web environment. Using the latest Service- Oriented Software Development (SOSD) students learn the complexity of this field. The course will quickly cover the classical distribution issues and then it will focus on Web Data Management.
7 Information Technology High School 7 Cisco Academy Learn to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium- size route and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. The Cisco CCNA Exploration Major provides an integrated and comprehensive coverage of networking topics, from fundamentals to advanced applications and services, while providing opportunities for hands - on practical experience and softskills development. The curriculum teaches networking using a standardized industry methodology and covers networking concepts using a top- down, theoretical, and integrated approach from network applications to the network protocols and services provided to those applications by the lower layers of the network. CCNA Exploration is designed for students with advanced problem solving and analytical skills. The curriculum offers a comprehensive and theoretical learning experience for analytical students, and uses language that aligns well with engineering concepts. Interactive activities are embedded in the curriculum, along with detailed, theoretical content. Advanced labs build critical thinking and problem solving skills and encourage exploration and research.
8 Information Technology High School 8 Apple Academy Learn to perform basic troubleshooting and repair of both desktop and portable Macintosh systems, such as imac and MacBook Pro by identifying and resolving common Mac OS X problems to effectively repair Apple hardware. The Apple Certified Technician Major is a school- based training for the in- depth study of Macintosh/Apple Computer Technology and Networking. This major will prepare a student to be fully competent and Industry Certified in the service and support of Macintosh Computers and other Apple products. Student will learn to provide a comprehensive study of the Macintosh Operating System and Hardware Issues for the Apple Certified Macintosh Technician certification exam. We will develop our skills in trouble shooting for both the Operating System and Hardware issues for any Macintosh computer. Finally, this curriculum provides opportunities for students to prepare a future career as Apple Certified Macintosh Technician for any Apple Computer Technology and Networking jobs.
