Flanagan Liaison for CCCR Father Bob Hogan, BBD Associate Liaison Night to Honor Bishop Thomas Flanagan The Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal and the Knights of Columbus are joining together for a night to honor Bishop Tom that we are calling, Called to Serve with the Holy Spirit (see the flyer in this newsletter). Bishop Tom has been very active with both groups. The evening will include a dinner, music, testimonies and a silent auction. The evening will begin at 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at St. Mary Magdalen s Jubilee Hall. The cost will be $50.00 per ticket and will support the work of the Charismatic Center and the Knights. You can purchase individual tickets or groups can purchase their own table of 10. There are only 400 tickets available, so I encourage you to get your tickets soon. You can purchase them through the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal ( ). This event is a great opportunity to show your appreciation to Bishop Tom for all that he has done for the Charismatic Renewal in San Antonio, and to support the work of the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal. It will be a wonderful evening that I encourage you to attend, if at all possible. Preparing for Pentecost and Consecration to the Holy Spirit At the Vigil of Pentecost Mass at 7:00 pm on July 7 at St. Rose of Lima Church Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller will lead us in the consecration of our archdiocese to the Holy Spirit. Please be praying for this throughout the whole Season of Easter beginning with April 20. In the Charismatic Renewal we emphasize the importance of the Holy Spirit. I encourage every one of our prayer groups to give a special focus of teaching and prayer preparing for this consecration, so that many people, and our whole archdiocese, will grow in a deeper surrender to the Holy Spirit. Let us pray for the Holy spirit to work among us through union with God through the Holy Spirit; holiness and transformation through the Spirit; ministry empowered by the charisms (spiritual gifts) through the Spirit; and through the growth of Spirit led communities of faith. NIGHT OF RENEWAL: As part of this united preparation, let us all come together for the Night of Renewal (see more information in this newsletter) on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 6:30 pm at St. Mark Church (Community Building 2, Shalom Room). Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD, Fr. Will Combs, BBD and Dan Duet will help us to pray and prepare for a new infilling of the Holy Spirit. We will also be uniting in prayer for the Consecration of the Archdiocese to the Holy Spirit. Make a special effort to attend this night. Those of us involved with Charismatic Renewal cannot take this time for granted. This is a tremendous opportunity for the grace of the Holy Spirit to influence our archdiocese in a deeper way! DO YOU REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT A TIME THIS IS? Our individual prayer, our prayer in our prayer groups, and our coming together to pray in the Night of Renewal is so important so that God can accomplish all that he wants to do among us. 3 Comentarios de la Conferencia Carismática por Fr. Will Combs, BBD Con el corazón de María, quiero reflexionar con ustedes de los tesoros de la conferencia: Ejerciendo de los Dones de Dios: Ámalo, Vívelo, Hazlo! Como discípulos verdaderos de Jesús, vamos a aprovechar de la sabiduría de esta conferencia. Qué dijeron los predicadores? Gustavo Muñiz comenzó la Conferencia con su testimonio. Vamos a descansar de nuestro trabajo este fin de semana y afilar nuestra hacha. Jesse Romero de California habló de la Nueva Evangelización. Hay 70 millones Católicos en los Estados Unidos pero sólo 25% adoran al Señor cada domingo en la Santa Misa. Dónde están los otros 75%? Hay muchos Católicos políticos y culturales que son víctimas de 1 Juan 2: En ignorancia, están apegados del mundo. El mundo cree en relativismo y no en la verdad. Así, matrimonios homosexuales, aborto y marijuana están bien porque no hay un criterio de discernir entre el bien y el mal. Los Protestantes, nuestros hermanos separados, participan en esta cultura de confusión. Se olvidan que la Iglesia autorizó los 73 libros de la Biblia en el 4º siglo. No han añadido 7 libros del Antiguo Testamento, ellos faltan los 7 libros según la Biblia que Jesús mismo usó y ellos los quitaron en 1521 y La palabra diablo viene de la palabra división. La verdad es [1] Jesús (Juan 14:6), [2] la doctrina (Jn 8:32) y [3] la Iglesia (1 Timoteo 3:15). Hay unidad en la verdad. Los verdaderos Católicos Cristianos se entregan a la invasión divina y yada en hebreo; es decir que conocen intimante a Jesús. Están preparados para dar una respuesta por su fe (1 Pedro 3:15). (1) La filosofía de su vida es conocer, amar y servir a Dios en esta vida y vivir con Él para siempre (Catecismo #1721). (2) Forman a su conciencia y la conciencia de sus hijos (el criterio de saber que es bueno y malo) según los 10 Mandamientos. (3) Se consagran diariamente a Dios e invocan al Espíritu Santo. Buenos ejemplos de los marduros (mártires), es decir los testigos de Cristo y Cristianos verdaderos, son los Católicos en el Medio Oriente. El niño de confirmación, Shalam Abmali y su obispo en Pakistan se han perseguido horriblemente por su fe pero perseveran con gozo y celo. Entonces, Maranata Kurios Ruac Hakodesh Rafa Hosana Ven Señor Espíritu Santo Sánanos Sálvanos. Saulo Hidalgo nos dio muchos ejemplos de sanación extraordinaria. Como un discípulo de Padre Emil Tardif, él vio la curación por Jesucristo de un paralítico, un infante muriendo, sordomudo y otros. La Palabra de Dios tiene el poder de sanar. Pero la Palabra de Dios entra por unos de nuestros oídos y sale por el otro o se queda en nuestros corazones y se encarniza en nuestros ejemplos? La cultura de hoy, las religiones falsas y el diablo mismo tratan de distraernos y llenar nuestras mentes como un radio con mucho ruido. Tratan de paralizarnos en miedo de los Goliats, los monstruos en nuestras vidas. David, en cambio, dio toda de su atención a Dios. Y nosotros? Estamos en la Torre de Babel o en el Piso Alto de Pentecostés?... con lenguas de confusión o oración? La fe en una actitud de poner toda nuestra concentración en el Señor. En Bautismo y Confirmación se siembra la semilla del Espíritu Santo en nosotros. La semilla tiene que crecer. La devoción del Infante Jesús es hermoso pero Jesús creció. Y nosotros? El Espíritu Santo, dice Juan XXIII, es el Desconocido de la Santísima Trinidad Conocemos al Espíritu Santo? Lo resistimos o lo recibimos? Como Saúl, Recibirás al Espíritu Santo y serás cambiado en otro hombre (1Sam.11:6). Estamos dispuestos de transformarnos y hacer lo que no podemos hacer sin el Espíritu Santo? El poder del Espíritu Santo, según Hechos 1:8, es dinamis en griega; es decir dinamita, una explosión de gracia. Lleno del Espíritu, no somos reporteros ( éste es la noticia ), sino testigos ( Yo soy la noticia. Cristo vive en mí! ). Santidad es integridad, respeto e inspiración por otros. El poder del Espíritu se manifiesta en diversas formas para el bien común. Así, pide por los dones para que tu pueblo crezca. El único famoso es Jesús El Arzobispo Gustavo explicó la palabra prodigo en la parábola del Prodigo Hijo. Prodigo puede significar malgastador como el hijo menor malgastó todos de su herencia o prodigo puede significar generosidad abundante. La abundancia de Dios Padre es el Espíritu Santo. Jesús nos ama con el mismo amor que su Padre tiene por Él (Juan 15:9). Permanezcan en mi amor. Este amor se llama el Espíritu Santo. El Arzobispo pidió al Papa Francisco el favor de consagrar al mundo al Espíritu Santo. El Papa le respondió, es necesario. Así sea. Ven, Espíritu Santo, ven! MAY 2014-Page 3

5 Nights of Renewal Nights of Renewal were created for the purpose of bringing together people involved with the Archdiocese of San Antonio Charismatic Renewal Prayer Groups, and other interested people, for a time of renewal in the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal holds 8 Nights of Renewal per year. The gatherings include time for song, praise and worship, teaching, experiencing the touch of the Holy Spirit and time to socialize. The San Antonio prayer groups are divided into 4 zones. Each zone conducts 2 Nights of Renewal a year in different parts of the city. Everyone is invited to come from all the areas of the city. Come and be renewed in the Holy Spirit! 7 Donated Items Needed for Silent Auction There will be a silent auction benefiting The Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal (CCCR) and Knights of Columbus in conjunction with the dinner honoring Bishop Flanagan on July 12 th, 2014 (to be held at Jubilee Hall of St. Mary Magdalene Church with a projected attendance of over 400 people. We are soliciting everyone s assistance in obtaining items for the auction from people they might know who would be willing to make such a donation. We are looking for new, nonperishable items; merchandise or service gift certificates; or true collectibles (in the $25 to $300 range, but that's not a hard limit). We will be identifying the donor (with their permission) and think that many businesses would want to donate in honor of Bishop Flanagan, to benefit these charities, and enjoy the good will of all those in attendance who will see the donations. But there are many potential donors throughout the diocese who are best known within the individual parishes. The auction-fundraiser can only be as successful as the items donated allow!
