As always, we ask for your generous support of this Archdiocesan appeal. As of May 18, 182 of our parishioner families have pledged $51,617 and paid $35, 932 so we are doing very well so far! Keep in mind all the good things accomplished through this appeal support to St. Joseph s Seminary, support for retired priests and support for religious education, and aid to poorer parishes, etc. Thank you to all who have made your contribution already. If you haven t made a contribution yet, please again, consider all the good that is done through this Appeal. We would like to increase our participation rate, so please give what you can, even though it might be less than you would like to contribute. Thank you. MEMORIAL GIFT FOR FR. 3 Memorial Day Mass Dedication of Pavilion and Memorial Wall at Cemetery The Pavilion and Memorial Wall at the Cemetery will be dedicated on Memorial Day, May 28. Mass will begin at 12 noon at the pavilion. All are invited to attend. The pavilion is used for committal services during inclement weather and when road conditions dictate. Both the pavilion and the Memorial Wall were made possible through the generous donations from a good number of parishioners and others who have loved ones buried in our cemetery. Surprised By Hope: Study Group Given by Fr. Richard The word hope is used, misused and overused in our everyday language. What is the Christian and biblical sense of the word hope? For what do we as Christians hope? What is the reason for our hope in life as followers of Jesus? Fr. Richard will be leading a study / discussion group on the Christian and biblical meaning of hope for the next 6 Tuesday evenings from 7:30 8:30pm at St. Joachim s Church hall. Please bring a bible. The remaining topics are: May 22 nd : The Hope of Resurrection May 29 th : The Hope of Heaven June 5 th : The Hope of Jesus Second Coming June 12 th : The Hope of Salvation June 19 th : The Hope of the Church All are welcome at any of the meetings! Mass Book Opening for 2013 Mass Intentions Will Be Taken On Wednesday, June 6 in St. John s Church Hall and Thursday, June 7 in the parish office from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. -The Mass book will open for the whole year of Saturday evening vigils and all Sunday Masses will be reserved for the recently deceased. If there are openings for a particular date, these may be assigned one month before the date. -Each person may request twelve Masses (approximately one per month). -Mass intentions are $15. Altar candles and the Bread and wine are $10. Roses for Life are $6. Sanctuary lights are $5. -Requests may also be mailed to the parish office and will be entered in the book in the order in which they are postmarked. Spring Lottery The Parish will sponsor a Spring Lottery Picnic on June 2, The funds raised from these events help to support our parish community. The cost of the ticket is $50. 4 Camp Information Our Lady of Lourdes High School Summer 2012 BASKETBALL: Our annual basketball camp will be held during the weeks of June 25 th, July 9 th and July 16 th for boys and girls ages 6-15 from 9:00am-3:00pm. Cost is $135 per week and camp includes: instruction, T- shirt, awards, basketball cards, and game videos. Medical forms are required. Immunization form and exam within 1 year of camp is required. Call (845) for a registration form or visit BASKETBALL: OFFENSIVE SKILLS AND SHOOTING CAMP featuring two shooting machines on July 24, 25 and 26 for boys and girls years old. The fee is $140 per athlete. Limited spots. For registration forms call (845) or visit VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball Camp at Our Lady of Lourdes High School is scheduled for the week of August 13 th. Girls 6 th through 8 th grades are invited for a week of instructional volleyball in the Lourdes Arts and Athletic Center. The emphasis of the camp will be fundamental skill development in the areas of passing, serving, hitting and defense. The camp will operate Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and will be limited to 50 campers. The fee is $150. LECTURAS PARA EL DIA DE HOY: 1 Lectura Hech 2,1-11: Se llenaron todos de Espíritu Santo y empezaron a hablar 2 Lectura 1Cor 12,3b : Hemos sido bautizados en un mismo Espíritu, para formar un solo cuerpo. Evangelio Jn 20,19-23: Reciban el Espíritu Santo. «Recibid el Espíritu Santo» Todos quedaron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y se pusieron a predicar valientemente. Aquellos hombres atemorizados habían sido transformados en valientes predicadores que no temían la cárcel, ni la tortura, ni el martirio. No es extraño; la fuerza del Espíritu estaba en ellos. El Espíritu Santo, Tercera Persona de la Santísima Trinidad, es el alma de mi alma, la vida de mi vida, el ser de mi ser; es mi santificador, el huésped de mi interior más profundo. Para llegar a la madurez en la vida de fe es preciso que la relación con Él sea cada vez más consciente, más personal. En esta celebración de Pentecostés abramos las puertas de nuestro interior de par en par. En la tarde del día de Pascua sopló sobre ellos y les dijo: «Recibid el Espíritu Santo». La venida del Espíritu Santo el día de Pentecostés renueva y lleva a plenitud ese don de un modo solemne y con manifestaciones externas. Así culmina el misterio pascual. El Espíritu que Jesús comunica crea en el discípulo una nueva condición humana y produce unidad. Cuando el orgullo del hombre le lleva a desafiar a Dios construyendo la torre de Babel, Dios confunde sus lenguas y no pueden entenderse. En Pentecostés sucede lo contrario: por gracia del Espíritu Santo, los Apóstoles son entendidos por gentes de las más diversas procedencias y lenguas. El Espíritu Santo es el Maestro interior que guía al discípulo hacia la verdad, que le mueve a obrar el bien, que lo consuela en el dolor, que lo transforma interiormente, dándole una fuerza, una capacidad nuevas. El primer día de Pentecostés de la era cristiana, los Apóstoles estaban reunidos en compañía de María, y estaban en oración. El recogimiento, la actitud orante es imprescindible para recibir el Espíritu. De repente, un ruido del cielo, como de un viento recio, resonó en toda la casa donde se encontraban. Vieron aparecer unas lenguas, como llamaradas, que se repartían, posándose encima de cada uno. La Parroquia tiene la suerte de ofrecer citas con un psicólogo latino.
