Michael Life Long Faith Focus on the Gospel: Matthew 3:13-17 God s words in this Sunday s Gospel are for us, too. We are his beloved children. This is an important message for each of us to internalize, and it takes on special significance for those who are experiencing hard times, or whose families sometimes fail to give them the love and support they need. As Christians, it can be hard to help those who have had few experiences of trust and unconditional love in their lives to comprehend God s love for them, since they have few examples to work from. Make a special effort this week to reach out to someone who needs to know they are God s child, and He will never abandon them. Over time, this message will sink in and will really make a difference in their lives. It is that time of year to rotate members off of the Parish and Finance Advisory Councils. Fr. Michael is seeking new members to assist him in leading our parish. Information about the role and responsibilities of each Council are posted on our web site. If interested in joining either Council, please fill out an application located in the narthex and turn into the office or drop it in the collection. EXERCISING STEWARDSHIP OF GOD S GIFTS IN THE NEW YEAR: January is traditionally the time for New Year s resolutions. It s an ideal time to take stock, reassess and recommit to a life lived for and in Jesus Christ. Here are a few suggestions for the important areas of our faith life: Stewardship of Prayer: Nothing is more important than cultivating a closer, deeper relationship with God. Make a new commitment to a time each day to listen to God s voice. Stewardship of Family: How often in our busy lives does time with family get neglected? Resolve to find a special time with each family member each week. Make sure that family meals are celebrated frequently. Plan a special family outing once or twice a month, and go to Mass together. Resolve that when your spouse or child speak, you will look at them and truly listen. From International Catholic Stewardship Council SENIOR ADULT NEWS Neurobics Speaker Session Tuesday, January 14th, beginning at 1:00-2:00 p.m., in the Conference Room. We all have moments of forgetfulness, but significant memory loss is not an inevitable result of aging. Just as with muscle strength, you must use it or lose it. Rachel Larkins with Silverado Care will take us through a variety of mental exercises and provide ideas for things we can do at home to keep our brains sharp! I Believe in Love Book Study Mondays, February 10 th - April 14 th from 1:30-3:00 p.m. in the Bride s Room. Based on the teachings of St. Therese of Lisieux, the purpose of this terrific book by Fr. Each household and individual wage earner is asked to contribute $10.00 or more in the second collection in addition to the amount you regularly put in the basket. Did you know that 1 month s expense for envelopes is approximately $1,432 for our parish? 3 FAMILY MINISTRY Sanctity of Human Life Sunday - January 19, 2014: Baby and maternity items will be collected in the Narthex during all Masses next weekend. Donations will be distributed to crisis pregnancy centers in our diocese to support women in need. 4 THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD La Fe de Toda la Vida Centrada en el Evangelio: Mateo 3, Las palabras de Dios en el Evangelio del día de hoy son para nosotros también. Nosotros somos sus hijos amados. Este es un mensaje muy importante que cada uno de nosotros debe interiorizar. Además, tiene un significado especial para aquellos que están experimentando un momento difícil en sus vidas o para aquellos cuyas familias no les han brindado el amor y el apoyo que necesitan. Como Cristianos, se nos puede hacer muy difícil ayudar a aquellos con pocas experiencias de confianza y amor incondicional en sus vidas, ya que tienen pocos ejemplos de donde aprender. Esta semana, haga un esfuerzo especial para ayudar a alguien a entender que el o ella es un hijo de Dios, un hijo amado del Padre y que El jamás nos va a abandonar. Con el tiempo, este mensaje llegará a sus corazones y esto cambiará sus vidas para bien. AVISO IMPORTANTE: este Miércoles, 15 de Enero no celebraremos la misa de las 5:30 p.m. ni tendremos confesiones. Todos nuestros sacerdotes deberán asistir a una cena con el Obispo. El 18 de Enero se cumple el 41avo Aniversario de la trágica decisión de la Corte Suprema Roe vs Wade del 22 de Enero de 1973, la cual permite el aborto en América hasta el noveno mes de embarazo, causando así la muerte a más de 54 millones de niños no nacidos.
