1 SFC News Family-student-teacher conferences are coming up! Please look for a conference sign up sheet from your child s teacher. It is our hope to meet with every family in the school in order to work together to support your child s progress. Conferences are a chance to celebrate the hard work our students are doing and to inform one another of concerns, goals, and next steps for improving each child s experience and outcomes at SFC. School ends at 2:30 during the week of conferences (10/17-10/21) and at 2:15 on the Tuesday as usual. The afterschool program ends at 5:30 that week. I am attaching a letter to this newsletter about an important safety issue. We have noticed students returning to campus after school hours. All students who are not enrolled in the after school program or meeting with a teacher (for tutoring etc) need to remain off campus after school. Students who choose to come back to campus and are not enrolled in the afterschool program are not supervised and therefore cannot remain on school grounds. Strong Community 4 th Grade Family Literacy Night: Thurs October 6 th 6:00pm in room 205. Childcare and translation provided. NO SCHOOL for Indigenous People s Day: Mon October 10 th Parent Action Committee: Thurs October 13 th 6:00pm in room 205. Dinner and Childcare Strong Individuals We support students to be strong individuals through the following classroom and school activities: 4 th Grade: 4th grade students are going to begin having math and writing in a smaller class (about 17 students). This will allow more opportunity for small group instruction, individualized attention, and learning! K-8: Teachers met last week to plan the fall projects. I am so excited about the learning experiences they have in store for your child. Project time is starting soon 2-8: This year (thanks to the collaboration of several parents, Ms. Zapata, AJ and Mr. Sanchez) we are partnering with Mission Science Workshop for a series of field trips at the 2-8 th grade levels. The field trips will fit into project curriculum and offer students more opportunity for hands on science learning. Esperamos reunir con cada familia en la escuela para poder trabajar juntos para apoyar al progreso de su hijo. Estas reuniones son la oportunidad de celebrar los esfuerzos de los alumnos e inparamarnos sobre las dudas, metas, y próximos pasos para mejorar la experiencia de cada alumno en la escuela. Está incluida con este noticiero una carta sobre un asunto importante relacionado a la seguridad. Hemos notado que unos alumnos regresan a la escuela después de las horas de escuela. Todos los alumnos que no están registrado con el programa después de escuela, ó reuniendo con un maestro (para la tutoría) necesitan quedarse fuera del sitio de la escuela. Los alumnos que regresan y que no están registrado en el programa después de escuela no están supervisados, y por eso no pueden estar en el sitio escolar. Individuos Fuertes Apoyamos a los estudiantes a ser individuos fuertes a través de estas actividades: 4º Grado: Los estudiantes van a empezar a tener las matemáticas y escritura en una clase mas pequeña (17 alumnos). Esto permitirá mejores oportunidades para enseñanza en grupos pequeños, atención individualizada y aprendizaje! K-8: La semana pasada los maestros reunieron para planear los proyectos del otoño. Estoy muy emocionada sobre las experiencias que van a ofrecer a sus hijos.
