2 2015 Health Note The Chronic Disease Prevention Programs support women s healthy and active lifestyles. During the month of and to celebrate Mother s Day, we challenge you to give someone the gift of good health! No matter what age group the moms on your Mother s Day list fall into, the gifts of health, fi tness, and well-being are always the best ways to appreciate any mom on any day of the year -- especially Mother s Day. Brighten that special woman s day with these lifesaving gifts of time and love! You will be helping her lower her risk for chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. 1. Give the gift of (your) time and support at the doctor s office. Make time to go with her to doctor s appointments. To help keep appointments organized, a pocket size calendar for her purse is a nice gift. 2. Give the gift of healthy eating. Treat her to a couple of sessions with a nutritionist. Or better yet, fi nd out if her insurance covers this service and help schedule her fi rst appointment. 3. Give the gift of organization. Make her a folder containing all of her medical records. Include a section for test results and vital information so it is all in one place. Put together a list with all of her medications and what times she takes them. Having all this information in one place could end up saving your mom s life. 4. Give the gift of a good night s sleep. Adequate sleep is linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, as well as other health conditions. Invest in some quality items for her sleeping and resting area. Like a new set of comfortable sheets, a new mattress, a mattress cover, or a new pillow to encourage better sleep. 5. Give the gift of healthful treats. A pedometer, some arm weights, and maybe a tape measure can also be part of a nice gift. A tape measure can help mom measure her waist size, which can assit in assessing risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. Cheer her on as she builds up her strength, endurance, and fi tness with her exercises. Join her and do it together! These ideas may improve emotional well-being and self-esteem, reduce feelings of anxiety and stress, increase energy, and lower her risk of many diseases. 1

Durante el mes de mayo, y en celebración del Día de las Madres, lo retamos a que le de a alguien, el regalo de la buena salud! No importa que edad tengan las mamas en su lista, los regalos de salud para la condición física y el bienestar siempre son los mejores. Es una buena forma de demostrarle aprecio a toda mamá cualquier día del año especialmente, en el Día de las Madres. Alégrele el día a ese ser especial con estos obsequios de amor y tiempo! La estará ayudando a reducir el riesgo de enfermedades crónicas, tales como las enfermedades del corazón y la diabetes. 1. Dé el regalo de (su) tiempo y apoyo en sus citas al médico. Haga tiempo para acompañarla a las citas médicas. Para ayudarla a mantener las citas médicas organizadas, también regálele un calendario de cartera. 2. Dé el regalo de la alimentación saludable. Dele un par de sesiones con una nutricionista. O, aún mejor, logre informarse si el seguro médico le cubre este servicio, y hágale la primera cita. 3. Dé el regalo de la organización. Arregle un archivo con todos los documentos médicos de ella. Incluya una sección para resultados de pruebas e información vital para que todo se esté en un solo lugar. Haga una lista de todos los medicamentos con la hora en la que ella se los toma. El tener toda esta información en un solo lugar puede hasta salvarle la vida a su mamá. 4. 12 2015 Healthy Recipe This salad is easy to fix, looks great on a place, and is delivious to eat. Makes 6 servings. Prep time: 20 minutes Ingr gred edie ient nts 6 cups torn or cut mixed salad greens 3 medium tomatoes, chopped 5 green onions, chopped 1 small cucumber, peeled and chopped 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/3 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 larg rge avoc ocad ado, pee eele led Preparation 1. Mix salad greens, tomatoes, onions, and cucumber in a large serving bowl. 2. In a small bowl, mix lemon juice, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and salt. Pour over salad mixture and toss together. 3. Cut avocado in half lengthwise. Remove pit and peel avocado halves. Slice into thin wedges, about 1/8-inch thick. 4. Arrange avocado slices on top of salad and serve immediately. Mezcle los vegetales de hoja, el tomate, la 6 tazas de vegetales surtidos de hoja cortados os 3 tomates medianos, picados cebolla y el pepino en una ensaladera. 5 cebollas verdes, picadas 1 pepino mediano, pelado y picado 2. En un tazón pequeño, mezcle el jugo de 2 cucharadas de jugo de limón limón, el ajo en polvo, la pimienta negra y la 1/3 cucharadita de ajo en polvo (garlic powder er) 1/2 cuaharadita de pimienta negra molida sal.
