2 Page 2 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family, I hope all of our children have a safe and healthy summer out of school. We are doing many good things to engage people more this next year. One of the major challenges we face in our future success is dealing with $1.7 million debt from the building of our beautiful church. We are blessed with this wonderful building that was well done and economically achieved. Unfortunately the economy tanked right after, limiting peoples' ability to help and due to the housing crisis, more new people did not move in as anticipated. At this point, we pay $107,000 in interest annually on our loan to the diocese, while only paying half that in principal. We need a plan to eradicate this so we do not get caught trying to fix the 1993 building and not have funds to do so. Also, we do not want our $5.6 million building (which now costs $6.4 million due to the interest paid) to cost even more. We will start a general drive in the fall and speak to some people in the summer to get a head start. We have a great start of $250,000 given by one family to inspire people to match their gift and get the ship sailing. Our drive will be called #AnchorsAweigh! The idea is that the debt is the anchor that keeps our ship from sailing off into the future. I will talk about this more. I just wanted to give you a heads up. Have a Blessed Week! The Church of Holy Apostles, McHenry, IL Support Lemonade Stand for Liam A member of Holy Apostles, Liam Knudsen, was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His mother, Kathy, posted: The Lemonade Brigade is a charity that helps children in the McHenry area who have been diagnosed with cancer. They contacted us and asked if it was ok to set up a lemonade stand for Liam at the McHenry Cancer Rally being held at the McHenry Country Club on Tuesday, June 9, from 9 AM to 12 PM. They'll be at the first hole and you can stop by and purchase some lemonade even if you're not participating in the golf outing. This charity was started by a child who wanted to do something nice for kids with cancer by setting up a lemonade stand and it's grown into this organization...pretty amazing! Thanks! Please consider stopping by and purchasing a cup of lemonade between 9 AM and noon. All of the proceeds, in addition to some of the Cancer Rally's proceeds, will be going to Liam Knudsen and his family. Thank you for your support!
