A new way to serve? Saint Eugene s Music Ministry is looking for new members to join all of their choirs! I have always believed that music is not only prayer, but the very language of the soul. With music, you can understand perfectly the feelings in a person s heart, even if you cannot understand the words. Isn t there a song on the radio that makes you cry? Isn t there one that you have to turn up and dance toeven in the car? ALL of the groups of Saint Eugene s Music Ministry (both Spanish AND English groups), are welcoming new members; singers, instrumentalists, and cantors. The only requirement for participation is a desire to sing and praise God through song. You do NOT have to know how to read music. If you are interested, please speak to ANY Music Ministry member after whichever Mass you attend. Or you may contact Jennifer at or in the church office at Heavenly Father, we pray today for the nation in which we dwell, that you would grant us to be governed by good and wise leaders and that we may live in peace. We pray you would give the people of our nation a hunger for righteousness and justice, and that your care for the widow, the orphan, the poor and the alien would be shown through us. May we be a people of humility, generosity and compassion, showing mercy and justice to the weakest among us the unborn, the unfortunate and the elderly. We pray that we be peaceable people seeking to live in peace with one another and that hate and acrimony would give way to love and harmony. We ask this in the name of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Nuestra Parroquia To Be A Prophet WENDELL, NC Fourteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time (Exodus 2:2-5; 2 Corinthians 12:7b-10; Mark 6:1-6) What is a prophet? Perhaps we imagine people who can foresee the future or do and say extraordinary things. Something like those who read the Tarot cards or give a horoscope; yet, being a prophet of God is something very different and much more extraordinary than doing all those things we sometimes expect from prophets. It is more extraordinary because it is more heroic. A prophet is one who proclaims the word and the will of God. It is one who questions, challenges, and warns about errors. It is also someone who brings the consolation and hope of God for the people. Generally speaking, the prophet is an uncomfortable person, because what he says is not always, is almost never, well received. We see it in today s readings, in Ezekiel, in Paul, and in Jesus himself. People may say, They are weird! He is crazy! He is out of his mind! We have prophets in the style of Ezekiel, Paul or Jesus all around us. It is hard, however, to recognize, listen and accept them. They are regular people who live close to us but who, with their words or actions, bring us on the one hand the kindness and Good News of God, and on the other, the light that tells what in our own lives is not according to that kindness and Good News. It is a function of prophets to announce and to denounce. And that is often uncomfortable, and disturbing. Bringing the word and message of God to our lives, many times the prophets make us see our great or small errors. They point out the failing we have, sometimes even unaware to us. They all challenge us to greater things and possibly to something that might look very small but might demand a heroic action from us. Such heroic things might be very small but, as they ask us to get out of our own comfort zone, they might be very demanding. It might be something like caring a bit more for someone else; something like listening to the concerns of others and placing them in front of our own. It is true that Jesus was out of his mind. In the most literal sense of the word, the prophet needs to be out of his mind, not crazy, but wise with the wisdom of God which asks us to live for others rather than for oneself. This is not easy. By nature, we tend to have our minds first in our own interests and our own needs. Out of their minds, prophets invite us to de-center and place the center in God and in others, which is not something we have not heard before. We have heard it a thousand times in the Ten Commandments: You will love the Lord your God with all your hearts, and with all your souls, and with all your might. And your neighbor as yourself. Carrying this out, however, is what seems to be extraordinary and heroic, because it demands a constant daily self giving and total self-detachment. Inviting us to get out of our minds, the prophets are also inviting us to enter into our deepest Christian identity. As baptized, we are prophets, priests and kings. Quite a mouthful. Prophets call us to something extraordinary as we live our ordinary lives. To be a prophet, that is, to be our of our minds in normal life, has a price. Some will think that we are dumb, crazy, and without a realistic sense of life. Some prophets were also persecuted. Being a prophet is not easy, but all prophets have received a promise that has always been fulfilled. The word of God is to be always with them and just the right words on their lips. They are told never to be afraid. Nuestra Parroquia
