3 COMMITTEE REPORT 2011 TECHWEB First I want to thank the members of my committee Sander, B Todd L, Carlos A,and Jenn Without their help nothing would have been accomplished. We are finished with Howtooovoo and it has been distributed to all who wish to use the software and participate in remote meetings It is the tool that is the basis for the upcoming motions on Remote Attendance which will be presented as motions for debate in Raleigh. We have submitted a number of motions to facilitate the coming of the motion for Remote Attendance what a massive job; I have the outline completed and have divided it into working parts motions so we can address the pieces parts instead of trying to swallow the whole thing. We are also working on Howtoeventbrite it should also be ready next quarter. Eventbrite has many videos on setting it up and we will just have to set it up and add a Tips and Tricks I am working on a new payment processor for Eventbrite which should cut down on the paypal hassles. Todd has established the Event calendar and it is posted on the web site. Sander has done a commendable job on the web site including posting all the Medellin information. And has updated the software and installed it on the web. The loops continue to be a challenge and we may ask for funding for a new provider. We have done about 10 different report formats for Medellin for things from attendance to Flight information and alternative housing. We have had great committee meetings on line using oovoo it works so well and now we can have 12 users video (it takes a much more powerful computer for the moderator; an Intel i5 is recommended. We have submitted a motion to fund a computer for the committee. We are continuing as the leading technology edge in the fellowship by spreading the word on technology to all regions and IG s who request it. Respectfully Submitted Burt Tucker Chair 3

4 Región 8 MOCIÓN PARA ENMENDAR LOS ESTATUTOS: Vacantes de la Junta de Gobierno Moción Para enmendar el Artículo V Junta de Gobierno de la Región 8 y cambiar la Sección 9 referente a las vacantes en la Junta de Gobierno según se indica a continuación: Redacción Actual Sección 9 Una vacante en la Junta de Gobierno de la Región 8 puede mediante el voto de la mayoría de los miembros de la Junta que permanecen activos al momento en que ocurra la vacante. El miembro seleccionado mediante este método para la Junta de Gobierno debe estar cualificado para el puesto según indican los Estatutos y se desempeñará en el cargo hasta la próxima Asamblea de Negocios en la cual se aceptarán nominaciones de los delegados y se llevará a cabo la votación para llenar la vacante hasta que caduque el término. Redacción Sugerida Sección 9 Una vacante en la Junta de Gobierno de la Región 8 podrá llenarse mediante el voto mayoritario de los miembros en funciones de la Junta de Gobierno al momento en que ocurre la vacante. El designado miembro a la Junta de Gobierno deberá satisfacer las cualificaciones para el puesto según se establece en los Estatutos y de desempeñará en el cargo hasta la próxima elección regular. Sometida por: Comité de Estatutos/ Documentos Electrónicos Propósito: Simplificar el proceso de elección para llenar vacantes en la Junta de Gobierno entre Asambleas y evitar el tener que celebrar múltiples elecciones durante el curso de las tres asambleas. Implantación: Actualizar el Manual de Estatutos, Políticas y Procedimientos Costo: Ninguno Exposición Razonada: Este provee estabilización y consistencia. Por ejemplo, el Tesorero fue electo como Custodio por lo que ocurre una vacante, La Junta pidió solicitudes y designó a un candidato. De acuerdo a los Estatutos actuales esto conllevaría un proceso de solicitud y de votación en julio y lo mismo se repetiría en noviembre. Algo similar pasó el año anterior cuando la Secretaria renunció a su cargo en junio. En la Asamblea de noviembre de cada año hay una elección programada y este cambio pudiera muy bien acomodarse. 4

Redacción Actual Abstinencia* De acuerdo al diccionario el término abstenerse se refiere a privarse total o parcialmente de algo. En Comedores Compulsivos Anónimos se refiere a privarse de comer compulsivamente. La recuperación física, emocional y espiritual es el resultado de vivir de acuerdo a los Doce Pasos de Comedores Compulsivos Anónimos. Redacción Propuesta Abstinencia* De acuerdo al diccionario el término abstenerse se refiere a privarse total o parcialmente de algo. En Comedores Compulsivos Anónimos se refiere a privarse de comer compulsivamente y de comportamientos compulsivos con la comida a la par que se trabaja para mantener un cuerpo y peso saludables. La recuperación física, emocional y espiritual es el resultado de vivir de acuerdo a los Doce Pasos de Comedores Compulsivos Anónimos. 5

6 Moción Para enmendar los Estatutos de la Región 8 en la siguiente forma: Sección 4 - Elección y Reelección de Miembros a la Junta de Gobierno A. Las elecciones deben celebrarse en la Asamblea de Negocios de otoño 1 y por menos 90 días previo a la Conferencia Mundial de Servicios Mundiales. B. El comunicado para elecciones debe enviarse a todos Cuerpos de Servicio, Representantes a la Región, Miembros de la Junta de Gpbierno, Presidentes de los Comités de Servicio, y al Custodio de la Región con, por lo menos, 30 días de antelación de la reunión en que se celebrarán la elección (las elecciones). C. Los candidatos deberán estar presentes en deben dirigirse la concurrencia de 3 a 5 minutos y responder a las preguntas que puedan formularle. D. La elección se llevará acabo voto escrito. E. El candidatos deberá recibir la mayoría de los votos emitidos. Redacción Propuesta A. 7 Moción Para la compra de un computador para el comité de Tecnología y Comunicaciones Electrónicas Sometida Comité de Tecnología y Comunicaciones Electrónicas Propósito El Comité de Tecnología y Comunicaciones Electrónicas necesita un computador para trabajar cumplir con sus funciones de audiovisual, participación en la asamblea en remoto, y las proyecciones necesarias durante la Asamblea. Costo $600 - $700 Exposición Razonada Los miembros del Comité de Tecnología y Comunicaciones Electrónicas han estado utilizando sus computadores de su propiedad (así como otros equipo especializados de cámaras y amplificadores de señal) durante las asambleas de los pasaos tres años por lo que las mismas se han tornando inadecuadas para la utilización de nueva tecnología como las funciones agregadas (12 User) y OOVOO, por lo que se necesitan computadores con más velocidad, como Intel para poder llevar el mensaje de los demás miembros que no pueden asistir personalmente a la asamblea. 7

8 Moción para enmendar la Página 15 de los Estatutos de la Región 8 según se indica a continuación: Cambiar el término de servicio de los Presidentes de Comités de Servicio de 1 año para 2 años y hasta un máximo de 4 años consecutivos correspondientes a dos términos. Sometido por Comité de Tecnología y Comunicaciones Electrónicas Propósito El propósito es parear el término de los servidores al de los miembros de la Junta de Directores (Junta de Gobierno) y así mantener una estabilidad en los comités ya que en muchas ocasiones el Presidente del Comité es el único miembro disponible de una Asamblea a otra de la Región 8. Implantación Enmendar los Estatutos de la Región 8 ARTÍCULO VIII COMITÉS Sección 1 En la Asamblea de la Región 8 se constituirán los Comités, Subcomités, Comités Ad Hoc, que sean necesarios para a el beneficio y la operación de la Región 8, S.A. A. Los Presidentes de los Comités serán nominados por el comité y designados por la Junta de Gobierno en la asamblea de finales de octubre o inicios de noviembre. 1. Será elegible para ser designada, la persona deberá: a. Ser o haber sido un representante a la Región b. Haber servido en el comité al que sería designado c. Haber asistido a dos o más Asambleas de Negocios de la Región 8 durante el término que fuere Representante a la Región 8. d. Haber detenido su comer compulsivo y haber vivir durante un año de acuerdo a los conceptos de los Doce Pasos de Comedores Compulsivos Anónimos B. Los presidentes de los Comités podrán servir un máximo de cuatro años consecutivos, (siendo cada término dos años) en el mismo cargo, mientras sea posible. C. Los comprobantes para reembolso y liquidación final se pagarán luego de que se hayan entregado los archivos y materiales al Presidente entrante del comité de la Región 8. En el caso de que el cargo esté vacante entregará los archivos y materiales al Presidente de la Región 8. Antes de procesar el reembolso, el Tesorero deberá corroborar que los materiales hayan sido entregados a la persona correspondiente. Costo Ninguno Exposición Razonada Tener más estabilidad en los comités manteniendo su presidente por lo menos dos años Muchas veces de una asamblea a otra los miembros de los comités cambian así que teniendo al presidente por dos años se puede mantener la cohesión en los comités. 8

10 HOSTING COMMITTEE FINAL REPORT SOAR8 BUSINESS ASSEMBLY AND RECOVERY CONVENTION NASHVILLE, TN JULY 8-10, 2010 As a result of hosting the Region 8 Assembly in July, we have bonded as an Intergroup, helped create more recovery, and made money to aid in spreading the word about OA in Nashville and the surrounding areas. I felt that the Planning Committee bonded and worked very well together. MTI was also so very grateful to the Region 8 Board for carrying their message of recovery to us and to the Newcomer s meeting on Thursday evening. I heard several people, who were struggling, say that that meeting and what they heard helped them achieve abstinence for the first time. Financially MTI felt this convention was very successful. We were able to give SOAR8 their share of the proceeds from registration and silent auction which amounted to $ MTI accrued $ from our share of registration and silent auction and the proceeds from the Hospitality Room and the Boutique. Some of the thoughts from our Hosting Committee treasurer were: (a) there was great confusion when MTI had to change in mid-stream to a different account with Pay-Pal (b) the Soar8 contact with Pay-Pal and our Hosting Intergroup made the transition more difficult because of lack of patience (c) maybe having some way to account, per registrant, for the money sent for registration, meals, and donations. MTI was able to save money by recycling 2 sets of posters saved from the last time MTI hosted the SOAR8 Business Assembly and Recovery Convention. We also saved money by using the centerpieces furnished by the hotel. Our only glitches were in finding that some of our decorations wouldn t stick to the recently waxed, vinyl wallpaper downstairs at the hotel. This committee spent $257.98, which was well under the $300 estimated budget amount. MTI loved the idea of Love Note bags which was stolen from another Hosting Intergroup. The idea of having a heart and a music note on each bag was perfect for our theme, Tune into the Principles. The bags cost little and we cut notes and hearts from colored construction paper. Our Intergroup donated all the items in the Boutique, the drinks and fruit in the Hospitality Room, and also made donations to our scholarship fund, the Barbara Lamb Scholarship Fund. We had numerous people help out with the pricing of the donated items for the Boutique. So many people in the Intergroup gave service and the Hosting Committee is grateful to each one. The evaluation sheets helped to provide the Hosting IG (MTI) with some much-needed feedback. (1) BUSINESS ASSEMBLY (a) longer committee meeting time, if possible, (b) a few more opportunities to participate in recovery meetings, (c) transition to 1 business meeting and 2 recovery meetings per year. (2) RECOVERY CONVENTION (a) future topics: spirituality, food plans, a newcomer workshop, Action Plan, the Promises, Bulimic/Anorexic topic, the Big Book, Concepts, Steps/Traditions, Abstinence, Freedom from obsession, Recovery from relapse. (b) many participants were unfamiliar with PI/HIPM perhaps some education about this committee and what it does (c) For 20 people, this was their first Region 8 recovery convention. (d) the meeting rooms were crowed and hot, not enough seats. Obviously we were not prepared fro the number of people who came to the workshops. (3) BOTH (a) needed more chairs and an area to socialize, (b) luncheon great food choices, glad sauces were outlined as to what ingredients were in each, (c) luncheon speaker very special, awe-inspiring, excellent, superb, (d) banquet great selections, great service, 7PM too late, well thought out (e) banquet speaker great recovery, amazing, inspiring, wonderful spirit & enthusiasm, (f) entertainment fabulous, made me cry, incredible, outstanding, was a gift (g) registration packets good information, loved the magnet, loved having Lifeline on the principles, give out programs at desk, instead of putting them in packets, (h) miscellaneous comments this conference has changed my life, lovely decorations, you all did a great job, wonderful experience. Some of the things the Hosting IG learned were the following: (1) More training ahead of time for people volunteering at the registration desk, (2) whoever is the registration chair needs to be VERY computer literate, (3) make sure many additional programs were printed as we found people 10

11 continually misplaced theirs, (4) volunteer coordinator was needed. People did not show up for volunteered time, (5) make sure that people on scholarship understand that they are responsible for service. This might come under the venue of the volunteer coordinator. The things that we thought went really well were the following: (1) the speakers were fantastic and shared tons of recovery, which led to great open sharing, (2) food was excellent, (3) Hotel worked hard with us to please and accommodate, (4) entertainment was wonderful, (5) the taper did an excellent job and was easy to work with, (6) lots of willing volunteers, (7) decorations were beautiful, (8) having the Lifeline in the packets was a hit, (8) plenty of drinks and food in the Hospitality Room. I cannot recommend being a Hosting Committee for a Region 8 event highly enough. It is hard work, but the rewards are outstanding.
