Without this active memory, the bonds of relationship and affection fray and fall apart. Communities dissolve as surely as neglected buildings do. After participating in events, celebrations, and even small rituals, we remark about how good it is to gather and remember. Today s readings remind us of foundations laid deeper than the human will to relate. Today we hear about God s will to relate to us to be our God as we are called to be God s own beloved people. Today in three readings and three ways we remember the covenant bonds that create us as a people and the obligation and responsibility that express the innermost attitude of soul. You are mine. I am yours. These are God s words that created a people as surely as Let there be light created the sun and moon and all the stars. Dear Altar Servers It is important to realize that being close to Jesus and knowing him in the Eucharist through your service at the altar, enables you to open yourselves to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them. It is a source of real joy to recognize that we are small and weak, all the while knowing that, with Jesus help, we can be strengthened and take up the challenge of life s great journey in his company. Dear altar boys and altar girls, the closer you are to the altar, the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the Word and the Body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received. Thank you for serving at the Lord s altar and for making of this service a real school of learning the faith, and charity toward your neighbor. Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time August 30, 2015 TRADICIÓN La tradición es la memoria humana a largo plazo, mantenida no en piedra sino en la interrelación humana. Sin esta memoria activa, los lazos de relaciones y de afecto se debilitan y se deshacen. Las comunidades se separan tan de seguro como caen los edificios abandonados. Después de participar en acontecimientos, celebraciones y hasta en pequeños ritos, comentamos lo bueno que es el reunirnos y recordar. Las lecturas de hoy nos recuerdan aquellos fundamentos que van más hondo que la voluntad humana para relacionarse. Hoy escuchamos sobre la voluntad divina de relacionarse con nosotros de ser nuestro Dios tal como nosotros somos llamados a ser el pueblo amado de Dios. Los lazos de la alianza que nos establece como pueblo, y las obligaciones y responsabilidades que expresan lo más hondo del alma. Tú eres mío. Yo soy tuyo. Estas son palabras de Dios que crearon a un pueblo, tan seguramente como Hágase la luz creó el sol y la luna y todas las estrellas. Queridos monaguillos Es importante darse cuenta de que estar cerca de Jesús y conocerlo en la Eucaristía a través de su servicio en el altar, le permite abrirse a los demás, para caminar juntos, para establecer metas exigentes y para encontrar la fuerza para alcanzarlas. Es una fuente de la verdadera alegría de reconocer que somos pequeños y débiles, todo el tiempo sabiendo que, con la ayuda de Jesús, podemos ser fortalecidos y tomar el reto del gran viaje de la vida en su compañía. Estimados monaguillos y niñas del altar, cuanto más cerca esté al altar, más se va a recordar a hablar con Jesús en la oración diaria; más se va a nutrirse de la Palabra y el Cuerpo del Señor. Mejor preparado estará para salir a los demás, con lo que el don que ha recibido, dando a su vez con entusiasmo la alegría que ha recibido. Gracias por servir en el altar del Señor y por hacer de este servicio una verdadera escuela de aprendizaje de la fe y la caridad hacia el prójimo. Help them with your loving care while they work to save the lives and property of all people, young and old. HANNIBAL, PRAY FOR US 5 WAYS TO HELP FAMILIES MAKE PRAYER A PRIORITY The hectic pace of family life can often mean that prayer gets lost in the shuffle. Here are five simple, practical tips to encourage families to pray more often: 1. When you rise from bed, get down on your knees Try this method for morning prayer: Put your bedroom slippers or shoes far under you bed art the end of the day. Each morning, while on your knees retrieving your footwear, say a quick prayer offering the whole day to God. 2. Communicate with God whenever you climb into the car Many families spend a whole lot of their time in the family vehicle. As you buckle up, say a quick prayer that you will be aware of God s presence in your day. 3. Place a prayer jar in the kitchen Keep a jar in the kitchen in which each family member, each day, places a note listing a special intention that others in the family can pray for. Before each family member goes to bed, he or she pulls a note from the jar and prays for that need. 4. Fold your hands before you unfold your napkin Before each meal, take a few moments to thank the One who provides all that you need and blesses you with the lives of those around the table. Try mixing up rote prayers with spontaneous prayers, silent prayers with sung prayers. 5. Pray when people or events upset you If you want a sure-fire way to pray more each day, make a habit of saying a short prayer whenever someone irritates you. A quick Help me, God is sufficient. You ll never run out of opportunities! DIOCESAN YOUTH DAY 2015 The Office of Ministries, Diocese of Fresno is sponsoring this year s Youth Day Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Visalia Convention Center. All and any youth high school age can attend this event for $20 per person. St. Mary s Parish will register thru the rectory, so any group leader of Agape, LifeTeen, RCIA, Del Rey Religious Education and SMAS if you have high school age youth wanting to attend you must submit your list to the rectory. DO NOT register your group on your own. Only ONE PERSON per parish will be assigned the responsibility of registration for the entire parish. Our deadline for your sign ups is September 7, If you have questions leaders call the rectory. Once the sign ups have been taken and paid we will determine the mode of transportation to this event as a parish. You may pick up a sign up sheet, and permission slips from the rectory to begin signing up youth.
