You re Reading the example now.. at the moment I m working on Sundays these weeks. temporary I m checking my after class..near future
Subject + verb be in present (am/is/are)+ Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Como se utiliza el verbo be como auxiliar, la formulación de negaciones, preguntas simples o especificas siguen las mismas reglas gramaticales que el verbo be. Negative Ideas I m not coming tomorrow Subject + verb be in present (am/is/are)+ not + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Yes-no Questions Are you paying attention (now)? Verb be in present (am/is/are) + Subject + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Information Questions Where are you taking your piano classes these vacations? Question Word + Verb be in present (am/is/are) + Subject + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. *It s included only if needed **It will be used according to what wants to be expressed; activities that are happening at the moment of speaking, temporary ones or arrangements. For activities at the moment of speaking, it is not usually included unless emphasis is required.
Time Expressions a) Activities at the moment of speaking Now Right now At the moment/in this moment b) Temporary activities This week/month/etc. (singular expressions) These days/weeks/etc. (plural expressions) c) Near Future (arrangements) Tomorrow Tonight After or next (near future expression) Past Continuous Las reglas son idénticas que el presente continuo, simplemente se utiliza el verbo be en pasado ya que se describen actividades que tuvieron un progreso en el pasado. Affirmative Ideas I was Reading an interesting book yesterday. Subject + verb be in past (was/were) + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Negative ideas The students weren t paying attention Subject + verb be in past (was/were) + not + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression.
Yes-no questions Were you sleeping in class? Verb be in past (was/were) + Subject + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Information questions Why was Dan yelling at you? Question Word + verb be in past (was/were) + Subject + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. *It s included only if needed **It s usually included to make emphasis. They re the same ones used in simple past Time Expressions Last Night/Morning/year/ etc. Yesterday X day(s)/hour(s)/etc. ago Por otra parte cuando utilizamos el pasado continuo, es muy común que se utilice con dos conectores; esto para describir dos actividades. Podemos describir dos actividades simultáneas o la interrupción de una con la otra. Past continuous with while While significa mientras en español, entonces automáticamente podemos comprender que se utiliza para describir actividades simultáneas. I was watching the TV while My mom was preparing the food. Or While My mom was preparing the food, I was watching the TV Or While I was watching the TV, my Mom was preparing the food
Podemos apreciar que las dos actividades pasan al mismo tiempo y esto implica que las dos son continuas, es decir las dos seguirán las reglas gramaticales revisadas anteriormente. En el caso de querer realizar preguntas, no hay problema alguno ya que solo elegimos una de las actividades y la contrastamos contra la otra (la cual no cambia su forma). Past continuous with When Cuando utilizamos pasado continuo con el conector when lo hacemos para describir que una actividad en progreso es interrumpida por otra. I was studying when my friend called me Or When my friend called me, I was studying Como se puede apreciar, la actividad que estaba en progreso, seguirá las reglas gramaticales del pasado continuo revisadas con anterioridad. Por otra parte, la actividad que marca la interrupción debe estar en pasado simple. Sin embargo, si entendemos el contexto podemos notar que podríamos sustituir when por while para marcar interrupciones. While I was studying, my friend called me.
Affirmative ideas My sister will be living in NY next year. Subject + will + be + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Negative ideas I won t be living her next year Subject + will + not + be + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Yes-no questions Will Mathew be living with you after his graduation? Will + Subject + be + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. Information questions What will you be doing tomorrow night? Question Word + will + Subject + be + Verb+ing + *complement + **Time Expression. *It s included only if needed **It s usually included to specify the period of time activity will be happening
Time Expressions Tomorrow Tonight Next week/month/class/etc. After tomorrow/class/etc.
