3 My brothers and sisters in Christ, On Sunday evening, May 29th at 6:00 PM the young people going to Madrid are hosting a fundraiser dinner dance called A NIGHT IN SPAIN. This will take place at the Sons of Italy hall in Watertown. This will be a great night of dinner, dancing and entertainment. There will be a live band and a DJ. It is being held on Sunday night because Monday is a holiday Memorial Day. Tickets for the dinner dance are $25 dollars a person and can be bought after the Masses or at the Rectory. This will be a great night that we hope everyone in the parish can attend this event to enjoy each other s friendship and company and support the youth pilgrimage to Spain. VINCENT DePAUL In this Sunday s Gospel, as we hear the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we also come to know that our daily reaching out to our neighbor is our daily walk with the risen Christ; we recognize him in others. Your offering in the St. Vincent de Paul poor boxes at the church entrances will show that you are indeed walking with Jesus and recognizing him in the poor and suffering. Happy Mother s Day to all our loving mothers who taught us how to love, hope, and believe. Lord, through your resurrection hope was given to the world, strengthen us to be hope for others. For those who live in fear and loneliness, enable us to be peace for others. For the sick and the dying, ignite our hearts to be love for others. Amen

4 WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 MADRID A few weeks ago a couple of teenagers in the parish inquired about the World Youth Day in Madrid. They said they want to be there. I told them to spread the word and see if others also want to go. Nine young people have signed up for the trip. This is a great sign of hope. We are always being told that young people aren t interested in the faith and the Church. Yet these young people want to spend the next few months raising money to be with the Pope, the bishops, clergy, religious men and women and hundreds of thousands of other young people on pilgrimage. This is very different from going on vacation. We will stay in simple conditions and spend hours in prayer, praise and teachings. We won t be eating in fancy Spanish restaurants but instead will be eating the pilgrim food. I am very happy that they want to go on this trip. I have been to five of these events in the past and usually I think that teenagers are too young and immature to get a lot out of these events. Yet I quickly said yes to these particular young people as they have shown, each in their own ways, a maturing and an ability to discern what is important and essential in life. These 9 youth will be joined by me and two other adults. So we will travel in a perfect number following the Lord who chose 12 to be his apostles. Please pray for these young people that they may raise the funds to go and benefit from the experience of joining other young people from around the world to witness to the life and universality of Catholicism. We will be having certain fundraising events throughout the Spring. We hope you can help support them in their efforts. HAITI RECONSTRUCTION FUND Please visit the photo exposition of Saint Peter s Church in Bainet Haiti. This gives a sense of the destruction and the beautiful site of this town on the Caribbean coast. This past week we collected an additional $ to bring the new total to $13, Thank you. A civil engineer is studying whether the church walls which are still standing need to be torn down or can be salvaged for a reconstructed church. He is looking at the photos to see whether it is worth it for him to go down to Haiti and see the church. We encourage you to keep saving your coins and loose change and bring them in to the church or the rectory. We will keep raising money until the church gets built. We will also keep you updated when any plans are made or progress takes place. Please pray for this holy work. P.S. WHY I WANT TO GO TO WORLD YOUTH DAY Over the next couple of months, we will include letters from the young people traveling to Madrid, expressing their desire to attend World Youth Day. Hi my name is Aidan. I love doing things in life that are out of the ordinary. I never was the kind of kid that wanted to do the normal sports. For me independent was more interesting and fun. I know that I want to discover more of what my own personal talents are. I love that sense of accomplishment I get when I complete the impossible. Thanks to my loving parents, Peter and Kim, I was able to do most of the things I had interest in, even though they were always the most expensive: including traveling around the country for adventurous hikes/ climbs. What it has done for me is strengthen my attitude about life and how God plays a role in helping the right things fall into place. For me traveling is one of the most amazing experiences a person can have. The world has so much to offer in its many diverse cultures, and colonization's of people. I love seeing new parts of the world that were once only imaginable, and when that becomes a reality it is a rush in many emotions. Joy, excitement, wonder, and amazement are just a few from a never ending list. I have traveled to Europe once before with my grandfather and father. For me it was only the beginning; after that trip I loved traveling and new experiences. I have developed a passion for photography in recent years, partly because I was not feeling as though I was fully understanding or seeing what a certain place had to offer. The ability to hold life still and capture it in an image only adds to the experience. I plan to make the most out of World Youth Day considering it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Although it happens every two or three years this one is special because I got an invitation to attend from our pastor Fr. Michael. To not go would be a big mistake; in life saying yes and trying new things is what is going to get you somewhere. It will open doors and create connections with people and the places they live. All proceeds go towards the youth Pilgrimage to Madrid Spain this summer. Thanks to all who made early donations to the car wash fundraiser for the youth pilgrimage to Spain. If you made a donation and were not able to get your car washed at the first one please come to any of the next ones. They run from 9:30 AM-3:30 PM in the church parking lot.

5 BIRTHRIGHT CARNATIONS This Sunday is Mother s Day. The Mother s Day Carnation Project is the primary fundraising event held by Birthright of Framingham. The Birthright center offers friendship, emotional support and practical assistance to women in a crisis pregnancy. Birthright does not charge for its services, but relies on donations from generous supporters. Your support is deeply appreciated. SANCTUARY RESTORATION UPDATE You may have noticed that a good amount of work has been accomplished in the last few weeks. The baptismal font has been moved to a place of greater prominence reflecting its importance and dignity. The platforms for the three sanctuary areas have been rebuilt and are ready for tiling while the wires for the microphones have been rewired. SANCTUARY RESTORATION DONATION The wooden panels behind the former location of the font have been removed. We would like to have this restored and placed as a backdrop to the tabernacle highlighting the holy tabernacle where our Lord is present in the Blessed Sacrament. We would like to invite a parishioner to make a donation for this tabernacle restoration in memory of someone or a family. Please speak to Father Michael if you are interested in learning more about this opportunity. CATHOLIC RADIO: WQOM 1060 AM In November 2010, Catholic radio station WQOM 1060 AM began broadcasting in the Boston area. WQOM is part of The Station of the Cross, a not-for-profit Catholic Radio Network which exists in order to effectively evangelize through radio programming. Its motto is Proclaiming the fullness of Truth with clarity and charity. The movie is The 13th Day, an inspiring film on the message of Our Lady of Fatima. Contribution is $5.00. MASS TRANSLATION This section of the bulletin has taken apart the Mass to help describe what we are doing and why we do it. We continue with the Liturgy of the Eucharist; this week we discuss the: PRIVATE PREPARATION OF PRIEST AND PEOPLE It was in France that various prayers said by the priest before communion appeared during the Middle Ages. Said silently, and in the first person plural, frequently addressed to Christ, these prayers were included in the Mass to foster the devotion of the priest celebrant. The priest prepares himself to receive the Eucharist by saying one of two prayers. The faithful are also to prepare for reception of communion by praying silently. The formula for the priestly prayer is: Lord Jesus Christ, with faith in your love and mercy I eat your body and drink your blood. Let it not bring me condemnation, but health in mind and body. OR Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, by the will of the father and the work of the Holy Spirit your death brought life to the world, by your holy body and blood free me from all my sins, and from every evil. Keep me faithful to your teaching, and never let me be parted from you. Hopefully the prayers of the priest and the short time offered for the faithful to prepare to receive the Eucharist will help that we aren t just doing a ritual and routine action but truly wish to receive Jesus to become like God and live with and in God. 7 Tradición de la Misa. Esta sección del boletín se ha reservado para ayudar a describir lo que estamos haciendo en la Misa y por que lo hacemos. Ahora estamos centrados en la Liturgia de la Eucaristía. Esta semana hablamos del: CORDERO DE DIOS / Agnus Dei La fracción del pan fue especialmente larga en la liturgia papal. Fue, por tanto, acompañado por el canto que originalmente pudo haber sido variable. El Papa Sergio I ( ) se dice que ha introducido el "Cordero de Dios" para completar el rito. Ser Siria, Sergio probablemente prestado este canto de la liturgia Siria. Que el texto está tomado del reconocimiento dado a Jesús por Juan el Bautista. (Jn 1:23, 36) Cristo es el cordero pascual (I Corintios 5:7, Juan 19:36), que ha vencido a la muerte (Apocalipsis 5:6; 13:80 El canto fue cantada originalmente por el pueblo y el clero de asistencia y se repitió al parecer con la frecuencia necesaria para acompañar la acción. Con el desarrollo de melodías complejas que poco a poco estaba reservado al coro. Como el número de comulgantes disminuido y como anfitrión sin levadura sustituye pan con levadura, la acción de partir el pan se convirtió en muy breve. Como resultado, el texto cambia en cada repetición. Pero desde el siglo X en adelante, la última frase se cambió por "danos la paz" probablemente el resultado de unir el canto con el beso de la paz que en el siglo IX comenzaron a ser transferidos de antes a después de partir el pan. Hoy en día el "Agnus Dei" ha sido restaurado como un canto para acompañar la fracción del pan y la mezcla de la máquina con la Preciosa Sangre. Peregrinación a Holliston, este Sábado 7 de Mayo, como es costumbre la Asociación Mariana de la Diócesis les invita a esta peregrinación al Santuario de Fátima en Holliston será de 9: 00 a 3:30 de la tarde, el nombre para el concurso de la canción es Maria Madre de Misericordia. Es una noche muy divertida en la cual no se va aburrir.
