2 The English Centre BULLETIN 28th of November 2013 Dear Families, We are writing to you to let you know that we are now taking reservations for places for the school year, initially only for students currently enrolled at the school and their siblings who wish to apply for a position. The trust you place in us with regard to the education of your children is something we hold close to our hearts. Therefore we are more than aware of the necessity of continuous improvement in each and every one of the services we have on offer, and especially with regard to the education we provide. We believe that the latter encompasses all the basic elements of education without forgetter those aspects that highly benefit our pupils as they comprise the values, social skills and determination which is essential for their thorough preparation, social integration and personal development. One of the traits that define our school is our particular dedication to languages, principally English, which we gradually integrate into our syllabus to ensure our students expand and develop all their skills to their full potential. In this regard, we would like to highlight the English immersion implemented in Early Years Education as the foundations for our pupil s progression towards English becoming their working language, as well as our Incorporation of the International Syllabus in the first two years of Primary, the improved methodology in third year and our mid-term commitment to bring forward external tests. We guarantee that pupils shall have sufficient time to interact with their tutors, as they are the people who are closely involved in the educational and psychological development of our pupils. We will be continuing to pursue projects already in place which aid our pupils to advance their skills, such as UCMAS or efficient reading. We structure our sixth form syllabus in line with the needs and requests of families, considering this stage as not only as preparation for the Spanish University Entrance Exam, Selectividad, but also as a fundamental phase in our pupil s preparation for University life. To this regard our Guidance Department offers training, professional and vocational guidance for our pupils and their families, as well as contact with the top Universities and further guidance when pupils applications are accepted. All of which we provide in order to obtain the best results and ensure that of our pupils get the best out of themselves. Another one of our proposals is for our pupils to be more involved in the School and the society, advised by the various committees we have in place to promote innovation and creativity throughout the School: taking responsibility and social awareness, themed projects with different activated like Christmas (currently underway) or that which we began last month on Values for life These projects, and many others, shall be carried out throughout the school year with the sole aim of encouraging the educational value to practice their own values. In support of our teaching-learning process, we continue to move towards a greater incorporation of the use of technology as part of the methodology used in the classroom, as well as attention more focused towards the individual through forming support groups in the instrumental subjects from Primary to Sixth Form. We are also moving forward in the area of Family Administration, expanding our communication channels and reducing waiting times concerning queries or suggestions. Furthermore, taking the current economic climate into account, we continue to hold an economic sustainability policy, as a result of which numerous costs cuts have been made on supplementary activities this year. The slight increase in fees for next school year is solely due to the increase in the CPI and furthermore we shall be offering a discount in registration fees for both siblings of current students as well as the sons and daughters of former students. In addition in the table of prices below we have eliminated the minimum number of days for the morning classroom. In addition to that above, we would like to highlight the various Quality accreditations we renew each year that confirm our educational excellence, plus our achievement, this November, of the Silver Seal in the EFQM +400 Certificate as acknowledgement of being a School which strives for excellence and continuous improvement. Yours sincerely, BOARD OF DIRECTORS - 2

AND REQUIREMENTS The English Centre is governed by a series of regulations, drafted to facilitate the existing relationship between the School, Parents and Pupils. Their compliance by all parties greatly facilitates the realisation of the family s rights and our duties, promoting safety, diligence and efficiency in the education of your children, which we are honoured to share with you. Please read the following list carefully and, if you agree on all points, return it duly signed. If you wish to clarify any points, please contact the Family Services. 1. The family should respect the ideology and the Organisation and Operation Regulations of the School (ROF), actively participating in its development with the pupils. Breach of the ROF or any of the regulations described in this document can constitute grounds for expulsion from the English Centre. You can find the ROF on the English Centre s website: 2. Pupils will be grouped and assessed according to English Centre pedagogical criteria. In Secondary (2º ESO +/-) the Centre can organise, and make compulsory an exchange for all pupils of up to one academic year. New students and pupils in general may be obliged, if necessary and based on Centre academic criteria, to attend extra classes or summer courses to improve their language levels and this is additional to and not included in monthly fees. 3. Pupils must come to school appropriately; neat, tidy and wearing the School Uniform, with no additional accessories (e.g. piercings, or clothing with brand names). The school uniform must be worn in full from the first day of school throughout the academic year, including dates on which trips or similar outings are to take place, except if otherwise stated by the Tutor. Pupils who repeatedly break regulations concerning the School Uniform will be considered in breach of the ROF. All the pupil s clothing must be clearly labelled with their name and surnames. EPO tutors will periodically check that this has been done. If you find a garment which does not belong to your child please return it as soon as possible. (Unclaimed clothes are sent to the charity Cáritas at the end of the school year). The School Uniform must be worn by all pupils from the age of 3 to students in the Upper Sixth. Two-year old pupils should wear the official English Centre tracksuit and smock. We recommend that you purchase your uniforms at the beginning of the school year. After this date, purchase will be subject to availability. For more information on uniform, please visit the Documents of Interest section of our School s website. 4. Pupils must arrive at School at least five minutes before the beginning of classes. In the event that a pupil is late the School must be notified beforehand and the late arrival must be justified, if this is not the case the pupil will not be allowed to enter the School. During lesson time no pupil from Primary Education upwards may enter or leave the School. Pupils using the Dining Room service may not leave the English Centre during this time except if being collected by an authorised adult and have notified the School of this. Pupils who have not paid for this service must leave the School premises until classes begin again in the afternoon. If a pupil is absent from School due to illness, he/she will not be allowed not attend School just to take an exam. Assessments are continuous and the mark from an exam alone does not constitute the mark awarded for a subject. 5. Families with parents who are separated must respect and comply with the SEPARATED PARENTS REGULATIONS, which they can find on ECINET. 6. Families must inform the School of any change to the basic details on their child s records, such as address, contact telephone numbers, address, etc. Maintaining these details up-to-date is the only way the School has of informing the family of any incident concerning the pupils. You must provide the School with any information on your child s medical history, as well as any allergies or chronic illnesses he/she may suffer from, and inform the School of any special circumstances. To avoid pupils handling medication, please inform the School of any medication and its use during school hours and hand it directly to the school bus monitor or reception together with the pupil s name and the recommended dosage, so that we may pass it on to Matron. When handing in medication, please fill in the Reception form on ECINET or, if this is not possible, the paper version. By signing this document you authorise the School to make decisions in the event of an accident (if the family has not been located within five minutes of the accident). Any medication must be handed in/collected by an adult. 7. You must inform us of any permanent changes to services before the 25th of every month, the last day for drawing up lists and invoices for the following month. In the specific case of the Sports Club and Music School Extra-curricular Activities, cancellation of enrolment or re-enrolment can only be carried out on a termly basis. In order to cancel your child s enrolment or to re-enrol him/her please contact the Family Services directly. Please do not inform the School of any temporary changes through your child. Cancellation of a pupil s enrolment, both definitively and partially, in any activity or service must be carried out with one month s notice; in the event of a failure to do so the monthly costs corresponding to that month must be paid due to lack of notice given. The Reception must be notified of occasional Dining Room service requests before 11am on the same day at the latest. The school bus service cannot be contracted for individual days. 8. It is very important that the pupil arrives at the bus stop a few minutes before the arrival of the school bus so as not cause the bus to arrive late at other bus stops. Any pupil who does not regularly travel on that particular school bus route will not be allowed to travel without the Management s authorisation. In order to travel on a different school bus route the family must write to the school stating the reasons for this change with sufficient notice to ensure it can be organised appropriately. When getting off the school bus all pupils up to Year 2 (inclusive) must be collected by a parent or adult with written authorisation on presentation of their DNI. If this is not the case, the pupil will be taken back to the School, where he/she will remain until the aforementioned conditions are complied with. Likewise, all pupils up to Year 2 (inclusive), who do not use the school transport service, must be collected from School by their parents only or by an adult with written authorisation on presentation of their DNI. For organisational reasons no change to the bus stop or the use of a different bus route to the usual one will be permitted without prior request in writing stating the reasons and prior acceptance of this request. Bus routes are indicative, and may be amended in accordance with the organisational needs of the School. The USE OF THE SCHOOL TRANSPORT SERVICE REGULATIONS, published on ECINET, must be complied with. 9. The Additional Activities are those proposed by the Departments to complement the pupils education and are all compulsory. The Extra-curricular Activities proposed for different times in the school year are optional. 10. Their use is compulsory for all years, and the pupils are provided with both at the beginning of the school year. 11. The amount billed for the month of September under the item Educational supplement encompasses school materials, additional activities and reprographics. This amount is rectified June. 12. The use of mobile telephones is prohibited inside the School, as are toys, music devices or any valuable object. To keep the School clean and tidy no nuts or sweets in general or chewing gum will be allowed into the School, nor any type of product with a glass container in order to avoid accidents. The School does not take responsibility for the loss or damage to the aforementioned objects. The School s insurance does not cover thefts of bicycles, motorbikes or mp3 or mp4 players. Bicycles may be brought into the School grounds but as there is no surveillance cameras, any damage or theft will be the responsibility of the family not the English Centre. 13. Payment of invoices must be made within the first 5 days of the month. If this is not the case the invoice will incur a 10% charge which will be applied to the following month s invoice. 14. The annual renewal of places must be requested expressly, and the deposit for reenrollment will be charged to your usual bank account. The English Centre reserves the right to decide on the renewal of places of pupils enrolled at the School (informing the families with sufficient notice). 15. In the event that a family wants a pupil to study at a foreign school for a period of time under one year, the family must comply with the FOREIGN EXCHANGE PROGRAMME REGULATIONS, which are detailed on ECINET. 16. The English Centre takes responsibility for the accuracy of the information contained in its leaflets and information catalogues.
