Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. Catholics in Latin America and the Caribbean face many challenges, including violence and a lack of both clergy and lay leadership to witness to the gospel message. Your support shares the faith with those in need, including the youth of Holy Family Parish in San Miguel, El Salvador. These young people, at high risk for violence, often lack an education in values and critical-thinking skills. To address this need, the parish designed a youth enrichment program. Funded by the Collection, this program gives the youth an opportunity to share their faith and break the cycle of violence in their neighborhoods. Please give generously to next week s Collection. AQUINAS REGIONAL SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, will be hosting an Open House on Tuesday, January 28 at 10:00 a.m.. Aquinas is a PK4 through Eighth Grade regional Catholic school. The school is administered and staffed by the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. Daily faith formation and the instilling of virtues through our Virtues in Practice Program are the focus of our mission. Aquinas was named a Top 100 Virginia School by Johns Hopkins University and we have a unique Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. First Communion Students: Baptismal certificates are past due in the Rel. Ed. Office for all of those students who are in classes to receive their Sacrament of First Communion in 2014; this includes Aquinas and Home Schooled students. If you are having a problem getting a copy of the certificate please contact the Rel. Ed. office ASAP. First Reconciliation is Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 7:00 pm in the church. The Rel. Ed. Office must have the baptismal certificate of the child before penance is received. CYM NEWS THIS Sunday, January 19: Bowling Night (-8pm) Every Sunday night, all high school students (grades 9-12) are invited to join us for an awesome night of friends, faith, and fun. This week, after the 5:15 mass, we ll be meeting in the parish hall for a night on what it means to say I Believe What does it mean to believe? Why do we believe in God at all? Answers to those and so many more questions tonight! Bring your friends and we ll see you there. Wednesday, January 22: MARCH FOR LIFE! We are taking a group down to the mall for the annual March for Life. Come help support Life along with hundreds of thousands of others standing up for the unborn. Perry ASAP to reserve your spot. We rally at the Mall from 12 noon to 1:30 pm, then march up Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court. Buses leave OLA at 11 am, returning approximately 5 pm. THE LAY FRATERNITIES OF ST. DOMINIC The Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic will meet on January 25, 2014, the last Saturday of this month; we will meet at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Purcell Rd., Manassas, VA 20112, in St. Dominic's Room from 2-4pm. We will meet earlier for Bible Study/Sharing from 12:30-1:45pm. Snack will be served at 1:45-2pm. All (ages 18 & above) are welcome to attend either or both sessions. BRIGID S GALA The LAOH (Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians) is sponsoring the 9 th annual St. Brigid s Gala on Saturday, February 1st, from -11:00pm in the Our Lady of Angels Parish Hall. This event is a fundraiser for local charities and tickets purchased in advance are $20 and include beer, wine, soda, and snacks. (Food will be available at additional cost). At the end of this month many of us will receive a mailing from Bishop Loverde regarding the 2014 Bishop s Lenten Appeal (BLA). The theme for the 2014 BLA is Renewing Hope with Hearts Afire! After reflecting upon the many blessings that God has given you, please prayerfully consider making a pledge of support to this important appeal that funds many programs and ministries that serve the people in our diocese.
