11 Tener expressions and verbs followed by infinitives Tener is used in many common expressions that express physical or emotional states. Tener ganas de means to feel like and Yo tengo ganas de ir a la playa. Marta tiene ganas de estudiar para la prueba de español Tener + que expresses obligation. Yo tengo que hacer mi tarea, pero tengo ganas de ir a la playa. Tú tienes que hacer la tarea. Ella tiene que mirar un video para la clase de historia. Both are followed by an infinitive. Deber, poder, pensar, preferir, querer, and gustar can also be followed by an infinitive. Debo estudiar para la prueba, pero voy a jugar los videojuegos Puedo hacer la tarea, pero prefiero hablar con mis amigos. Quiero ir a la playa en diciembre. A mí me gusta sacar buenas notas. 13 The present progressive The present progressive is formed with a conjugated form of estar followed by the present participle. Estoy Estás Está Estamos Estáis Están The present participle is formed by adding ando to the stem of ar verbs and iendo to the stem of er and ir verbs. Hablar > hablando Escribir >escribiendo Correr >corriendo Change i to y between vowels. leer > leyendo. Some students are in the library.write the present progressive form of the verbs in parentheses to tell what everyone is doing. 1. Unos estudiantes esperar para entrar. 2.
