3 International Spine Meeting Spine Surgery has been improving during all its history in aspects related to techniques and surgical approaches to treat different pathologies. This improvement has been determinant specially during the last two decades. As in other surgery areas, the adoption of minimally invasive technologies like laparoscopy, arthroscopy or endoscopy has received more and more atention as an attractive alternative to the traditional approaches. Minimally Invasive Spine (MIS) Surgery has evolved with the hope to speed recovery and improve the final surgical result using techniques that preserve the soft tissue envelope and minimize the approach-related trauma. In some spinal pathologies, the advantages of using minimal invasive techniques seem to be clear but there are others in which there is still controversy. Some of these controverted areas are Spine Deformity, Degenerative Lumbar Spine and Thoracic and Thoraco-Lumbar Pathology. With this in mind, we organize this International Spine Meeting. We will deal with the use of all the techniques to resolve these pathologies in the format of debate lectures and preferred options. We have the participation of international experts on all this fields and hope that the program and the final contents we have put together will satisfy the expectations of all the attendants. 5 Encuentro Internacional de Columna La Cirugía de Columna ha evolucionado durante toda su historia en cuanto a técnicas y abordajes para tratar las diferentes patologías. Esta evolución ha sido determinante especialmente en las dos últimas décadas. Al igual que en otras áreas de la cirugía, la adopción de técnicas mínimamente invasivas como la laparoscopia, artroscopia o endoscopia ha recibido más y más atención como una alternativa atractiva a los abordajes tradicionales. La Cirugía Mínimamente Invasiva de Columna ha evolucionado con la esperanza de acortar la recuperación y mejorar el resultado final del procedimiento usando técnicas que preservan las partes blandas y mejorando la morbilidad relacionada con el abordaje. En algunas patologías de columna, las ventajas de utilizar técnicas mínimamente invasivas parecen claras pero hay otras en las que todavía existe controversia. Algunas de estas áreas controvertidas son la Deformidad Espinal, la Columna Lumbar Degenerativa y la patología degenerativa Torácica y tóraco-lumbar. Con este espíritu organizamos esta Reunión Internacional de Columna. Trataremos del uso de técnicas para resolver estas patologías en un formato de conferencias-debate y opciones de tratamiento preferidas. Contamos con la participación de expertos internacionales en todos estos campos y esperamos que tanto el programa como los contenidos finales de esta Reunión satisfagan las expectativas de todos los asistentes.
