Our Lady of Mercy Bronx, New York PARISH & PASTOR S EVALUATION In the Calendar year 2011 Father Ambiorix Rodriguez will be completing his first six years term as Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy. In keeping with Archdiocesan policy, an evaluation of the parish has begun. Members of the parish staff and parishioners who exercise leadership roles have received an evaluation form from the Priest Personnel Board. They will return the forms directly to the Office of Priest Personnel. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION CHILDREN PARENTS CATECHESIS Parents who have their children on First Holy Communion will have their first annual Catechesis on November. If your child is in first year of Holy Communion, your meeting is on Sunday, November 14th, if your child is on second year of Holy Communion, your meeting is on Sunday, November 21st. Both meetings will take place from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm in the Auditorium of the School. You are invited to participate at the 10:00 am Family Mass. These Catechesis are a requirement of the Archdioceses of NY. Thank you! YOUTH GATHERING The annual Youth Gathering for the Confirmation Youth and all teens will take place on Sunday, November 21st, from 11 am to 4 pm. Its free! There will be refreshments! WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 IN MADRID The World Youth Day Festival will take place next year 2011 with Pope Benedict XVI in Madrid, Spain. It is a world youth Festival around Jesus, the pope and thousands of young people. If you are interested in attending and would like to know how, please speak to Father Rodriguez.

3 THANKSGIVING DAY MASS This year Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on Thursday, November 25 th. As in the past, on this day only one Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in the Church. This is one of the most special days of the year when we come together as a parish community to give thanks to God for His many blessings. Please join us! DRY FOOD DRIVE As we approach Thanksgiving Day on November 25 th, if you are able to donate some dry food for those most in need in the parish, please bring them to the Rectory on Sunday or during the week. COLLECTION FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT The weekend of November 20/21, the annual national collection for Human Development will be taken at all the Masses as a second collection. Thank you for your generosity ALTAR SERVERS If your child already completed his/her Holy Communion and would like to be an Altar Server, please fill out application and return it to the Office. Thank you! PARISH YOUTH GROUP Once again we encourage all youth from the parish to participate in the parish youth group every Tuesday from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the Prayer Hall. All are welcome! THE FAMILY MASS Our Family Mass is celebrated at 10 am every Sunday for the children and teenagers preparing for the Sacraments and their parents. The Mass is bilingual (English and Spanish) and the children and the youth are encouraged to take active participation with the readings, songs, collection etc. Each child should have also received a stock of envelopes for Sunday. Participation in Holy Mass is mandatory for every child in the Sacramental Program. Thank you! November 7, 2010 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time THE LORD STRENGTHENS US If you drive past a health or fitness club early most mornings, you ll usually see a fair number of cars parked outside. Most likely you ll see more cars parked there than outside the parish church for morning Mass or morning prayer. When the apostle Paul speaks today of the word of the Lord speed[ing] forward (2 Thessalonians 3:1) he is making a racing/athletic allusion. This sort of reference is one of the most frequent in his letters. In his world, influenced by Greek culture, the city s gymnasium was a place for athletics, but also for poetry, philosophy, and religious and political discourse. It was a place for the body, mind, and spirit. All aspects of our life must be guided by the word of the Lord. We can exercise at the health club for bodily fitness, but ultimately it will be the Lord who will strengthen us. In the same way, it will be the Lord s own strength we must use for our vocation as disciples: to speed the word of the Lord forward, so that Christ may be known and God glorified through our witness. 4 7 de noviembre de 2010 Trigésimo segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario EL SEÑOR NOS FORTALECE Si pasas por un club de gimnasia temprano por la mañana, usualmente verás a un buen número de automóviles estacionados afuera. Puede que veas más vehículos estacionados allí que en la parroquia para la misa de la mañana o la oración de la mañana. Cuando el apóstol Pablo habla hoy de que la palabra del Señor se propague con rapidez (2 Tesalonicenses 3:1) hace una alusión a las carreras atléticas. Este tipo de referencia es una de las más frecuentes en sus cartas. En este mundo influenciado por la cultura griega, el gimnasio de la ciudad era el lugar para el atletismo, y también para la poesía, la filosofía y las discusiones políticas. Era un lugar para el cuerpo, la mente y el espíritu Todos los aspectos de nuestra vida deben ser guiados por la palabra del Señor. Podemos hacer ejercicio en el club atlético para tener un cuerpo en forma, pero al final será el Señor quien nos fortalecerá. De igual manera, sera la propia fortaleza del Señor que debemos emplear en nuestra vocación de discípulos: para propagar la palabra del Señor, para que Cristo sea conocido y Dios glorificado por nuestro testimonio. COLECTA DEL DESARROLLO HUMANO El fin de semanas, 20/21 de Noviembre es la colecta nacional anual para ayudar a los mas necesitados dentro y fuera del país. La segunda colecta es para esto. Gracias! Que descansen en paz! RETIRO DE LAS FAMILIAS Hoy Domingo 7 de Noviembre hay un Retiro Familiar llevado a cabo por Las Hermanas Servidoras de la Palabra de 9 am a 5 pm en el salon parroquial. El Retiro concluye con la Misa a las 5:00 pm. MISIONERAS DE LA PALABRA Las Hermanas Misioneras Servidoras de la Palabra están llevando a cabo una Misión de Evangelización por las casas. Ellas salen a compartir el Santo Rosario y la Palabra a los hogares que se lo pidan. Si esta interesado/a, que las hermanas les visiten en su hogar, contactarlas después de las Misas o en la Oficina Parroquial. Gracias. NINOS DE PRIMERA COMUNION CATECHESIS DE LOS PADRES Los Padres que tienen sus niños en el Programa de Primera Comunión tendrán sus primeras Catequesis en el Mes de Noviembre. Los padres con niños/as en el Primer Año de Comunión el Domingo 14 de Noviembre, y los padres con niños/as en el Segundo Año el domingo 21 de Noviembre. Ambas Catequesis comienzan a las 11:15 am y terminan a las 12:30 pm en el Salón de la Escuela. Invitamos a los padres a participar de la Misa de la Familia a las 10 am. MISA DE LA VIRGEN DE LA DIVINA PROVIDENCIA La Misa anual en honor a la Virgen de la Divina Providencia, Patrona de Puerto Rico, se llevara a cabo en nuestra parroquia el sábado 20 a las 7:00 pm, seguido de un compartir. Sujetos a una regla de la Arquidiocesis de Nueva York, ya se ha iniciado una evaluacion de la parroquia. Miembros del personal de la parroquia y otros parroquianos que ejercen algun tipo de liderazgo, han recibido una forma de evaluacion del Equipo Encargado de los Sacerdotes. Ellos deben de regresar dicha forma directamente a la Oficina Encargada de los Sacerdotes. JORNADA MUNDIAL DE LA JUVENTUD MADRID 2011 La Jornada Mundial de la Juventud se llevara a cabo el proximo ano 2011 en Madrid, Espana, con el Papa Benedicto XVI. Saldremos el 12 de Agosto y regresamos el 25 de Agosto.
