4 SECCIÓN 3: ADJECTIVE PLACEMENT A. In Spanish, adjectives are generally placed after the noun. Exceptions to the rule 1. The word grande means big, large after the noun. However, it means great before a singular masculine or feminine noun. In this case, the word grande is shortened to gran. a great teacher = a large teacher = a great dog a large dog 2. Bueno and malo may be placed before or after the noun. 12 Sección 11: The Irregular Verb: Tener Although the verb TENER ends in ER, it is NOT a regular verb but an irregular verb. Tener is a stem changing verb because the spelling in the stem changes. To conjugate the verb TENER, apply the spelling changes in the stem, drop the ending and add the new endings for er verbs. TENER means.
