1 TITLE 1, PART A, PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM September 26, 2012 TO: Parents of Students Attending SUBJECT: TITLE I STATUS NOTIFICATION This is to inform you that is a school-wide Title I, Part A campus, and as a parent, you have the right to be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title I program. Title I, Part A is a federally funded program that provides resources and opportunities to improve the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged. Title I ensures that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exam or the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) exam. Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title I funds enable schools to employ and train highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals, purchase instructional materials, update technology in the classroom, and sponsor parental-involvement activities. To increase student academic achievement, Title I funds supplement the following programs offered at Austin High School: Extended Day Instructional Program (Tutorials) Summer School Parent/Community Involvement Teacher Professional Development If you have further questions or comments, please contact the Title I Coordinator, Brandi Lira at during school hours or by at blira2@houstonisd.org.

Austin NOTIFICACIÓN SOBRE EL PROGRAMA DEL TÍTULO I cuenta con un programa Título I (Title I) que contempla a toda la escuela. El Título I es un programa de fondos federales con el intento de mejorar el logro académico de los estudiantes que tienen un bajo nivel económico. El propósito del Título I, Parte a consiste en asegurarse que todos los niños tengan una oportunidad justa, y significativa para obtener una educación de alta calidad basada en el Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills TEKS- (Conocimientos y Habilidades Esenciales de Texas) y alcanzar, en un mínimo, puntaje en el examen de State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness STAAR- (Examen Estatal de preparación Académica de Texas) o el examen de Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills TAKS- (Estimación de Conocimientos y Habilidades de Texas),. 3 STEPHEN F. AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL Principal Jorge L. Arredondo SCHOOL PARENT COMPACT and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the state s high standards. This Compact is in effect during the school year School Responsibilities will: 1. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state s student academic achievement standards as follows; a) Hire highly qualified teachers and staff, b) Use resources wisely to obtain research-based materials and technology that will maximize learning, c) Maintain a school environment that is safe, supportive and nurtures participation on the part of all stakeholders. 2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child s achievement as needed. Those conferences will be held by appointment with parents and guardians at a time which is feasible and appropriate. 3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports: a) including the progress report every six weeks, b) including the report card every six weeks, c) including ad hoc phone calls made to parents by faculty and staff, d) and including on-line reports through Parent Connect. 4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows: a) during their planning period, b) before-school as reasonable and appropriate, c) after-school as reasonable and appropriate. 5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: a) through the district s VIPs program, b) on an ad hoc basis as reasonable and appropriate. 6. Provide parents with a central location in which they may have reasonable access to computers for the following: a) access to HISD Parent Connect, b) registration and completion of online classes, c) access to Naviance accounts,0 d) to research and apply for scholarship opportunities for their child Parent Responsibilities We, as parents, will support our children s learning in the following ways: Monitoring attendance, Making sure homework is completed, Monitoring the amount of television our children watch, Volunteering in the school (through the VIPS program) Participating in decisions relating to my children s education, Promoting positive use of my child s extracurricular time.

Tendrá conferencias con los padres y maestros durante el cual se discutieron este pacto lo que se refiere a los logros de cada niño según sea necesario. Estas conferencias se llevarán a cabo por la cita con los padres y tutores a la vez que sea posible y apropiado. c. Proveer a los padres con reportes frecuentes sobre el progreso de sus hijos. 5 TITLE 1, PART A, PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM September 28, 2012 TO: SUBJECT: Parents of Students Attending TITLE I TEACHER AND PARAPROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS As a parent of a student at Austin High School, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child, and Federal law requires the school district to provide you this information in a timely manner if you request it. Specifically, you have the right to request the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers: The teacher is certified in Texas for the grades and subjects he or she teaches. The teacher's college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status because of special circumstances. Whether paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.
